Shite in Miniature II

More lockdown nonsense, a quick play with the Lego before it got taken back out to the shed. Master SL had made an old Technical Lego tractor I had when I was young (basically an MF 135). I undertook an easier project:

Should be set 690 which I got when I was 4-5, but I couldn't face going through eight large boxes to find all the parts required so it got modified slightly, still with mostly period correct pieces.

Unearthed this Carrera set when we had a tidy-up in the shed, of use/interest to anyone on here?

I bought this one lightly started, so I didn't have to assemble the loadbay. Quite neat and positive how the main pieces fit together, but I did scribe-out the panel lines as they were rather shallow. It appears one headlight has gone AWOL, but I'm sure I can find something spare in another kit.

Let's of lockdown goodness going on in here today!

@Lord Sterling I love those Guiloy models. I have a 1/18 Sierra XR4i. It's crude in every way from the unbelievable metallic beige to the furry interior butI love it!

The 407 is actually 1/14 scale and is a radio controlled toy by Rastar. I saw it in TK Maxx in 2013 and just had to have it. Amongst the 911d and Veyrons it looked such an unusual subject. I wonder if it was discarded dealer stock?

It actually makes a lovely display model and is really nicely detailed.

Well that sets me a target to aim for with mine. I'm going to have to be really careful getting paint off the glass and tyres after my recent disasters. Sometimes brake fluid is fine, but it's ruined a Corgi piece I'll struggle to replace

Oh!  Glad I read this as tomorrow was going to be a day of dip for some 'glass' from the sixties Corgi range.

Which was the one that spoiled and how?

Funny you should post that, as I (after 40 year hiatus) have stripped and painted my Nan's old Corgi Land Rover to body-in-white.  I say my Nan, what it was is she had a box of toys she would get out for her grandchildren to play with.  When she died I 'took them on'.

I had not spotted until now the earlier girder type bumper compared to your Whizzwheels era one.  As it is damaged (and always was IIRC) I had pondered snapping off the remaining bumper parts to tidy it up.  But glad I didn't, if it makes it an earlier casting that just needs a bit of bumper 'letting' in.  Did they come with interiors?  It's missing.  I was going to just reuse the original 'glass' that has been smashed on passenger door - but I'll best just cut it tidy so it remains an open window

More importantly, it was yellow with a black roof (barely any paint left though) - so what should it become now I wonder?  Was there a 'famous' LWB Land Rover Series on in a TV show or feature film?  Doesn't seem to feature highly on IMCDB but I did find elsewhere this still from Born Free

Corgi's same 1/36 Porsche 917/10 casting as decorated in the L&M livery, except this time they did it in their their own 'home' colour scheme.  I never understood why the other well-known team colours were not available - but I guess the royalties fund wasn't able to stretch far enough

Step this way for a '1/32' slot car in the Polistil Evolution slot car range.  More of a caricature than precision modelling...  I have two (because cheap, only fuds like me collect Polistil slot stuff) and intend to do one up, but not in the Sunoco livery, used by the Penske Racing Team :

image.thumb.png.f47f0a81233aa7a8b0dd9c6430b4af74.pngs

(Polistil may* have been misinformed in advance - that the 917/30 car was going to be in black/green, not blue/yellow?)

...do much prefer this one :

Perhaps then I sort of have had the full set, and can sleep better.  ....but no!  What about the Martini one?  Tune in next time....

Why the obsession?  Perhaps because 1200bhp Twin Turbo Flat-12 monsters in swoopy open-top Spyder bodies.  For 1972-74.

The Intercity Minibus - has a large glass area and some is double curvature. Brake fluid turned it white - heard Dettol can work? Too late for this one though

Looked it up on Scalemates database etc and surprisingly Hasegawa didn't also do a saloon version, just your long-body pick up

Looking forward to your Sunny Hakotora !

i209738.jpg

Your original Corgi Land Rover S1 (406) dates from 1958, so it wouldn't have had an interior from new - at that stage, windows were the height of luxury.

It was an odd version for Corgi to model, being one of those rare Series I Land Rovers with the longer 109" wheelbase, which only appeared shortly before the Series II took over. I can't think of any particularly famous real-life examples.

In 1962 it seems that Corgi decided it was time to redesign the baseplate to fit it with the range-standard sprung suspension and an interior moulding, and took the opportunity to model the current Series II version of the Land Rover at the same time - with less breakable bumpers.

This later Corgi version of the Land Rover 109 (438) was introduced in 1962, and carried on through to 1976 in Whizzwheels form. It appeared in a wide number of versions, including many gift sets (such as the Chipperfields Circus set). The 'Daktari' TV tie-in version was probably one of the best-known versions, and this casting was churned out in their millions by the Swansea factory over 14 years of production.

In 1976 the SIII version appeared, in station wagon rather than pickup format, and in the larger 1/36 scale. This stayed in the range, on and off, right into the 2000s.

Thanks - oh of course yes I can see now, your later one is a SII.   Born-again as a homage to Born Free it will not be then !

Oops, not really up on Land Rovers, best excuse for that would be they passed me by as rare street furniture as I used to live in a big urban area; but I do notice them more now I've moved further away from the smoke and see them trundling down lanes instead so should pay more attention.

Since taking it apart 30 years ago, I feared an interior had been lost and drew a blank on Steve Flowers etc lists.  I will save the glass piece, trimming the smashed window.  Colour undetermined, but not yellow.

Well this worked out well.

FINALLY? secured a complete Hot Wheels Custom Eldorado without having to break the bank or get sniped into despair ?

It was lone auction with one single dozy plan-view photo.  So I asked if they seller had any more and he returned with a group of Majorettes in a photo.  So I did a deal at a pound each and FINALLY? have Jeep Cherokee WITH THE DOGGIE and some others.

A highlight was one I've never seen before - a '69-'71 Plymouth Fury police car.

Better late than never...?

Tat Friday on Monday afternoon. Go figure.

This is really just the remanants of the big clearout from 2018, and since they've had no takers up to now, I allowed myself to get lazy the other week and not bother posting them.

But, for the sake of completeness... here we are.

First up, a 1/43 Minichamps Opel Blitz fire ladder that must have cost someone a pretty penny back in the day - before they did something catastrophic to it, turning it into a shonky gluebomb.

20200503_181438.thumb.jpg.7d801ba9c5777e57707ac86dd09e04bd.jpg

More detailed pics can be found back in December, when this was snagged from the tat stall.

£3 takes this one!

Continuing with European firefighting vehicles... here's a Solido Peugeot J9 van that you'd be sure to see on a foggy night.

20200503_181926.thumb.jpg.539b5a3181e6fba1430d85716c5e56ea.jpg

Mmm, zingy.

20200503_182005.thumb.jpg.a2022bd7aa6eeac338ed966bd37dc868.jpg

Not much for M. Sapeur-Pompier to work with at the scene of the fire, mind you.

20200503_181908.thumb.jpg.f1cf4400995f429145a6722e2101b3fe.jpg

I bought this new from a toyshop in Dol-de-Bretagne in about 1994. If it were plain beige like all the real-life examples I remember seeing at the time, then I'd probably be more interested in keeping it... £3 takes this one too.

For any more Solido fans in tha house, here's a Dubber's delight...

20200503_182530.thumb.jpg.5178273cd1bf4e8e38c00341e3a6cf53.jpg

20200503_182550.thumb.jpg.c233b165de1ed1d1c9aa23190f3f7fca.jpg

Quite a nicely proportioned version of the classic Kombi, though slightly marred by a chip to the rear quarter.

Note the addition of spare Corgi Classics self-adhesive number plates, too.

20200503_182504.thumb.jpg.fc0d512a66b290b9b93011e6151fdd6a.jpg

£8.95 in about 1994...now down to a mere £3.

INVESTMENT PIECE YO

Further Solido: Triumph Spitfire that's potentially a racing car...

20200503_182402.thumb.jpg.3d4bcdb9789a6fcbd973eb33d2206054.jpg

(Terrible pics, sorry)

20200503_182443.thumb.jpg.e18e2c474d7699fe544822a7d31d2b62.jpg

I attempted to apply the waterslide transfers on this one, but found them impossibly rigid and unable to stick to the rounded front end - so gave it up as a dead loss. There are, however, some decals still in the box, so knock yourselves out.

20200503_182341.thumb.jpg.dffcb974f636a33bd3183808b677752b.jpg

With some damage to the A-pillar, £3 takes this one too.

I had slightly better luck with the Lombard RAC Rally transfers on this one: ***SOLD!!!***

20200503_182059.thumb.jpg.9d3c5aea00a3d37766e71fedc82d377b.jpg

The waterslides on the bumper spotlights didn't stay on, but the rest are suprisingly fresh after 25 years.

A while ago these seemed to be commanding a fair bit of coin, but looking now on everyone's favourite* auction site leads me to understand that a tenner will bag you one these days, though you'll have to put your own stickers on.

20200503_182022.thumb.jpg.cfe8ed4dd43c51a22b461a3297c6a7a9.jpg

Incidentally, this was one I was over the moon to find in a branch of E.Leclerc in Saumur, c.1994, as I recognised it from the 'Toy Cars' book. Seems this casting had quite a long lifespan, originally appearing in the main lineup in 1978.

Annoyingly, the box is now a bit chewed.

£7, say?

Lastly, for the Solido - a Dodge 4x4 van, part of the D-Day Anniversary range which also dates it neatly to 1994.

20200503_182250.thumb.jpg.033f6a0cde0c665dfe6372de0f1c7d91.jpg

Opening rear doors and everything.

20200503_182216.thumb.jpg.1631906c5db5f99c1aa21722b849919f.jpg

£4 takes this 'un.

No wonder the chassis on our family Lunar caravan broke in 1994, hauling all these Solidos back to Norn Iron...

Back round to Minichamps again, with an early 1950s Opel Kapitan...

20200503_182131.thumb.jpg.da3ff7724ec21abc7b320ccf31834377.jpg

20200503_182152.thumb.jpg.ab4cad26a965493a7852edcc8b838b18.jpg

This has a few issues, such as a missing door mirror and flat spots on the tyres.

20200503_182113.thumb.jpg.2de63a8285561087cc202aa32837a028.jpg

But if anyone's interested, I'll do this one for £3 too.

Last of the 1/43 diecast, then - Russki magazine partwork models.

Remember all these from a few years back? Poundland managed to score a huge job lot for cheaps, and originally punted them out in the toy aisle before realising that they didn't meet toy safety guidelines, what with all the small breakable bits on them.

I found a whole shelf of them crammed under all the gardening stuff in my local branch, as they plainly didn't know what else to do with them.

Kicking off - Matchbox Ford Transit Mk3.

Now, I've picked up two of these from the tat stall, but I only really need one.

So ONE of these two is up for grabs.

The first issue 'Motorsport' version has been messily opened, but the model's still minty.

The Australia Post van is still sealed.

You can choose whichever one you fancy, and then I'll keep the other.

£2 for your choice of Transit!

All in good nick; £3 takes this one.

Getting even smaller now, we're on to 1/87 - US railway scale?

Quite a nicely detailed International tipper, anyways.

£1 on this one - probably what I paid for it back in 2004.

And a more modern Germanic equivalent... BMW Z8.

Again, I'll do this one for £1.

Mega fun ahoy with these Hongwell playsets:

Mercedes to the rescue with this Vito, ML and Actros fire tender. Plus bonus giants. ***SOLD!!!**

Tesco Transporter with Toyota Rav4, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo, BMW E36 and Saab 9-3 on board:

...and lastly a mega-sign pack with car lift, transporter, Merc E-class estate; Merc CLK; Chevy Caprice; and Merc A-class in kiddywink-friendly colours; and Saab 9-5 and BMW X5 in less eye-popping hues.

Plus more giants, obvs.

£5 each on these, and this truly is the last call - I'm planning on hauling my assorted boxes of diecast down over the bank holiday weekend, and folding the remaining unsold stuff back into the general collection again, as I reckon I've cleared enough space now to make that possible.

Thanks for your indulgence, once again!

COWBOY COLIN did not shoot the doggie.

Cor, that's quite a haul there! Chrysler 180 and all. Nice!
