danthecapriman
I got this in the post today having been alerted to their existence by @eddyramrod 1/18 scale Otto models Capri mk2, in Miami blue. Obvious why I wanted it! Got to say, it’s absolutely stunning! It looks ‘right’ and the level of detail is amazing. Even comes with a separate aerial if you want to fit it. Not a particularly cheap model but one I had to have. I’ll try to get a pic of it with my 1/1 scale version soon! I made the mistake of looking at some of their other models after this... It seems they do a Volvo 740, which looks amazing too. So i bought one of those too! Pics once it arrives. vulgalour, Dannyk, blakey79 and 15 others
Jon
It's day two here of a 4 week lockdown, so I thought it might be nice to stick up an occasional photo of my latest buys (which I photographed a couple of weeks ago), over the next few weeks. Thing is, I've got a couple of friends staying with me from the UK (they were only staying for a week!) but that does mean I can't set up my home studio (aka piles of old books and a camera on a tripod) to take any more photos, lest I look like a total weirdo. So here's the first one, an incredibly fortuitous Solido X1/9 hanging out in a deserted piazza: Note the annoying bubbled rims, which have expanded for some reason or other, to the point of stopping the wheels turning. I've got a Solido Peugeot 104 that's similarly afflicted and it has the same small wheels as this one, so maybe it was an issue Solido had with these particular ones. Thankfully it hasn't affected the Citoren LN I've got too, which has similar ones. Here's a bonus archive shot of said Citoren, which is a great little casting, although the headlights being a bit too small does irk me somewhat. Anyone else up for making some small car scenes in their time off? Remspoor, Sudsprint, vulgalour and 4 others

RoadworkUK
Otto Capri is rather nice. Much better than the Norev Mk3, which is so nigglingly wrong in various aspects of its proportions that I'd slowly go mad in its presence. danthecapriman
bunglebus
1st of today's victims is this MB Cortina. Some little oik has given it a gentle stomping, so the A pillars were bent to one side 20200326_133034 by RS, on Flickr 20200326_133504 by RS, on Flickr Better, but both pillars are cracked and require supergluing. Off to the dunk tank to get the paint off. Next, Corgi E-type. I'm not really a big Corgi fan as a lot of the Whizzwheels era stuff feels a bit cheap. This is a metal base car, spoilt by thick paint and naff wheels. DoctorRetro
The Peugeot 205 didn't come out well, due to the orange paint being gloopy but still very transparent. So it took 3 coats, and now it looks terrible. I'll probably strip it all off and start again at some point. junkyarddog
A recent find is this Lesney London Trolleybus. The early ones were fitted with metal wheels, then the grey plastic ones like this has, then black. A bit of research suggests this one dates from around 1959! It wasn't too bad,a few chips, but butterfingers here dropped it and damaged the roof mounted conducting arms,so a repaint it had to be,new transfers too. You like it Smoll Eddy? With that in mind, I'm trying to cobble together something of a Friday Tat Market retrospective, since it's anyone's guess when we'll all be free again to rifle through crumpled banana boxes filled with filthy diecast rammel, shoulder-to-shoulder with other tragic old men... I kept several folders worth of the pictures taken at the market, all neatly cropped and size-reduced - but annoyingly they're all stuck on my work PC's hard drive, and far too big to have emailed to myself. Datsuncog
So... where did it all start, the Tat Stall? Last January, as it happens. I was well aware of the Tat Stall, as I've been a loiterer at the St Georges Market for many years. Since it's directly on the route from Belfast's Lanyon Place Railway Station and where I work, it was the easiest thing to just nip in while passing for groceries, light bulbs, vacuum bags and that sort of thing. When MrsDC was working in nearby Lanyon Plaza, we used to meet up for lunch and stuff like that too. I'd glanced at Nostalgic Collectables - the Tat Stall's real name - the odd time in passing, and clocked that it often had a lot of diecast cars and stuff gracing it. But, rather like a recovering alcoholic passing an off-licence, I really didn't want to seriously entertain stopping and browsing. See, I'd got myself into diffs with indiscriminate and excessive diecast hoarding before, and only just managed to ease myself out of it (see the Great Clearout of summer 2018), with a personal policy now in place that I would allow myself 1/43 models that I wished to have as part of a curated collection - but no more broken toys hoovered up based on opportunity. So I would glance, and just pass on by. That particular morning, on a damp and drizzly January, I'd only gone in to pick up a bag of scones for a team meeting, which I successfully procured... And then, on my way out, this happened. Tat Box Ground Zero. Ohhhhhh... And I couldn't help myself. With the limited change in my pocket, I bought these two. And then, in what would become a deeply familiar pattern over time, I went back at lunchtime via a cashpoint, and ended up with all these for a fiver... And so the Tat Odyssey began... More intense reminscincing to follow! eddyramrod, Sudsprint, bunglebus and 8 others

Yep, that's the one. It's actually a Maisto, and it has a plastic strip for the suspension that had worn out. A drop of superglue partway down each side means it doesn't bounce like new, but at least it doesn't look like a dog dragging it's poop chute along the ground Datsuncog

You know what, I think you should leave those well alone. They look fantastic as they are and have a real story to tell (one personal to you, too). Just like real cars, restored toys never, ever look as good as originals and those things have so clearly been loved and played with and are all the more honest for it. Picking something out of a 50p tat box and restoring it is one thing, but I think stuff like that with a family connection is much better left as it is. Just my two cents, but remember once you start stripping them down you'll never be able to recreate what's been lost... Rally cars would often appear in the 80s and 90s with a market-specific livery if the local laws didn't allow tobacco advertising. You would just get the colours you knew, with the sponsor's name deleted: Rothman's and 555 in these two cases.

Yes, 1985 Shell/Corgi promotion where £6 of fuel would get you a 'wheel' voucher - 4 of which would then get you a Corgi junior car in a unique for the range box. There were 8 trucks & 24 cars The only one I have is the blue Renault 5 Turbo II jobbie So that makes at least two in the AS library ? eddyramrod and warch
