Doc junior has asked for this gold thing, if it is still around next time please..

Ahhh... yes I saw this Corgi Mk1 Polo in the understall box last week, but it's missing the front axle!

20200118_231826.thumb.jpg.94e259bbe4a5bd3b26ef4f0a4539726d.jpg

But, he did have another beige version on the stall in poorer condition - missing a tailgate - but with all four wheels, if you fancy having a crack at a two-into-one restoration?

20200118_231608.thumb.jpg.5c8b4e5073a27940a9c8e651dc431577.jpg

With both of them busted in different ways, I've a feeling they could wind up in the 50p box before long - will keep my eyes peeled on behalf of you and Doc Jr!

It really is lovely, that Nacoral Fiat - and despite having a helpful description and price tag prominently displayed, I was way too deep into a diecast frenzy to take proper note.

I mean, I must have clocked it - but it all gets kinda hazy when I'm in 'the zone'.

I know this because someone once filmed me poking round an Australian scrapyard, and I look proper demented in it. Apparently, that's how I go when confronted with a surfeit of automotive tat.

https://youtu.be/UbqPN2gaKvs

But! I'll ping him a message and see if he can tell me the price (they were about to close when we were in yesterday, and the shop's closed today and tomorrow, so I doubt it'll have gone anywhere in the interim) - happy to act as a go-between, if it's a price worth paying!

I don't recall thinking "HFM!!!" and I'm fairly stingy, so fingers crossed it's not overly pricey.

That Fiat really is excellent!

Didn't realise people were still looking for the black MK1, I've seen quite a few about recently

I only ever saw 1 or 2 when I was looking,I saw a couple in Tesco last week,so they're still around.

Ive also got a Volvo 780 coupe and Volvo 244 coming from France & Germany yet to arrive. And a ZIL 131 military mobile generator set and URAL 375 command truck coming from Russia...

I also decided to get a couple of cheapo display cabinets for my 1/43 stuff. I’ve been buying them and then they just sit in their boxes under beds or on top of wardrobes etc, not really being seen. Now I can put them in these and appropriate them a bit more!

Nice. It’s not ‘Yanka’ though

The first letter is the Ts sound, the third the iY sound

So what you have there is a Tsaiyka, otherwise translated as ‘Chaika’ - the name given to the GAZ 13

So it’s unbranded and I didn’t help at all really

Tidy cabinets, where from?

Learn something new everyday! I’ve always called the GAZ 13 & 14 a ‘Chaika’ said as it’s spec in English but I’d guess that is actually not right then given the Russian spelling? How do you say it in English? ‘Sayka?

The cabinets are off eBay. You can get them in black & white like mine or wood effect. If you shop around a bit you can find them fairly cheaply despite some sellers prices! The doors are glass too which I find much better than plastic. 1/43 stuff fits well in them and you can change shelf heights, which was why I wanted these ones - my trucks wouldn’t fit in some cabinets available! Saying that, the MAZ and KRAZ artic transporters only just in width wise! The trailer is very wide around the rear axles.

Ts is a less strong CH sound

So to our English ear, it would be nearer chAYKer

I am no expert though. I’m just trying to learn to read other alphabets, before the zombies come

OhEmGee. I've just spent a fevered several minutes playing "want, got, need" in exactly the same was as I did when I was eight – when that catalogue was released.

I'll have to unearth some of my favourites from the above. Mate of mine had the SuperKings Texaco RS500 Cossie, which I used to enjoy comparing with my XR4i of the same scale (I always preferred mine. Somehow classier).

The coastguard boat that comes on the back of the SuperKings Mercedes-hauled Launch Transporter had a really well-observed deep-vee hull form, which did a fabulous job of planing across the water in the bath / pond / swimming pool.

News to me, BTW, is that Matchbox's SuperKings Range Rover rendition featured a stab at recreating its three-spoke alloys. Good grief. 1989, eh? What a time to have been alive.

The Super Kings transporter should have a Mustang Cobra with it.I may have one somewhere, but for now the Capri from a different release can sit on the back

I've got the Mustang but the wrong transporters - funny enough mine have Capris on too! (Until I put the Sand Cat on the green one)

A delivery happened this weekend. I always set out to get some diecast tat that will go down well on this thread. Something old, rare, distinctive, vintage...

Oh.

IMG_20200119_132939.thumb.jpg.506c7cb9c34c2a316e80ef44f32800da.jpg

 That went well!

Lately, I've been worryingly drawn to fairly recent model Vauxhall/Opels (Hell, I even drive a real one FFS). I've long been hunting for a Schuco Astra MK4 hatch as it's the nearest I can get to the two (yes, two!) MK4 SXis that I had. Sadly people selling them want all the money in the world for them.

I've had some models on my eBay watchlist for a while, being sold by a guy who has a shedload of NOS Opel dealership models, some weird and wonderful (Meriva VXR or Tigra Twin-Top with working folding roof anyone?), all top brand stuff at knock-down prices. Last week I got a message offering me the Astra koop for £8.99 posted, so I snaffled it. Yes it's a Mk4 Astra in a party frock but for a brand new Minichamps model, it's still a bit of a bargain.

IMG_20200119_133223.thumb.jpg.7fc81d834074d25b67beb79c6600c5a1.jpg

It's a lovely crisp casting, not a line out of place. Little details like the mirrors, handles and jack point covers are well done, along with nice Bertone badges (because Italian koop styling M8) on the rear quarters. Again the wheels are bob-on with a little set of discs and calipers inside them.

IMG_20200119_134410.thumb.jpg.ece295d45db0dd2d80ab6ead2dfba16d.jpg

Nice grille and headlight detail.

IMG_20200119_133643.thumb.jpg.ab609f4b4922904dfaa890083949b243.jpg

Nice detail at the rear as well, great job on the light clusters.

IMG_20200119_133605.thumb.jpg.b2271d6ac314803ea8972baa15cd8be0.jpg

Nice arse, the stance is bob-on too.

IMG_20200119_134030.thumb.jpg.2b58bc4eb0ab0bd22b2c1860f80237e0.jpg

IMG_20200119_134216.thumb.jpg.a7eb5b230fbeb715ea588de49a27b309.jpg

Good interior detail, the Recaro seats are just like I remember from my old Astra's, even the steering wheel has the audio controls under the spokes.

IMG_20200119_144316.thumb.jpg.b0af156fc788e493d89a2a33a7f6c022.jpg

And I had to get a pic with its spiritual predecessor! (Schuco)

IMG_20200120_005025.thumb.jpg.6940c16d50e39bc5f50670d8949fe428.jpg

And a nice family pic with the (worryingly) growing Vauxhall/Opel 'sporting' collection.

I think I may have a problem, (especially as the same guy has a facelift Vectra VXR and that Meriva VXR keeps giving me the wink as well...)

I got that Coupe when I had my identical model and very nice it is too. The heated rear window is a nice touch. I also have the Cabriolet and 5 door hatch by Schuco together with a crude 3 door 1/24 hatch example by Welly.

I can see me spending a fair bit with this eBay seller as he also has a nice Minichamps Astra Cabrio, in black with red interior. The Schuco Vectra OPC/VXR looks fantastic too, it's definitely on the list! I even want to get the Tigra and Meriva eventually, as owning a Corsa, I fancy having all the Corsa variants...
