I'm rather fond of those Mebetoys/Hot Wheels if it re-appears next week - what's the orange #8 car? *edit* Nissan 270X, grab this if you can please!

Got myself all of the Adventure 2000 vehicles thank you, but I'll dibs the camper if no one else has, thanks

Sure thing - Ford Camper for your good self, and I'll move the Planet Scout over to the box for@sierraman

There were two Nissan 270Xs in the box, so with a bit of luck there'll still be one left by next week! Equally, the Mattel Matra might be a bit niche for some - fingers crossed it's still there. He's probably looking about the £3 mark for each, I'd guess.

I had a couple of those Mattel models back in the early 80s, which I always mentally bracketed in with my 1/43 Bburagos as they seemed so similar in terms of construction - a blue Chevrolet Corvette with yellow sticker graphics, a plain gold Pontiac Firebird, and a white VW Golf Cabrio with red rally-style graphics. I get the feeling there was one more which I can't quite recall - for some reason, when I think of them I think of a twin pack. Never clocked the Murena before, though!

Are the Peugeot 205 and Citroen Dyane available? WLTM if possible

Yup, both available - though I have a yellow Dyane already set aside for you, so I'll see which one is in better condition!

Those 1/43 'Hotwheels' are interesting. I never worked out who actually made them though.

I got and still have a BMW 635Csi in blue with red stickers. Some were already affixed and made of plastic and some you had to stick on yourself, as per a 1/24 Bburago, but were paper-based. Very odd all round. I also had a rather awful Polistil VW Golf MK1 with huge scoops and skirts with just a sticker for the lights and grille. I must have liked it a bit as I remember playing with it in our front wall. There seemed to be a whole range like this.

I also had a 1/24 Fiat Uno 5 door in brown, again made in Italy but Hot Wheels branded.

Going back a bit in time, I have a chunky but pleasant Volvo 343 with much better detail and quality which I got in 2006. It has Hotwheels branding again and the same for it's box but again, made in Italy. I'm thinking Mebetoys? Martoys if I recall correctly became Bburago.

I have that Matra Murena too, it fair does appeal to me because of it's oddball Italian origins.

I picked up this super fast Mustang recently.

Quite hard to find in any condition.

As you can see it's Been subjected to a repaint in blue, there is also some green and silver showing through too.

And after,I had to use a window unit from an early car,as this one was too poor to reuse.

I've also been experimenting with rivets to try and replicate the original.

I also did the earlier version in red.

It's a really nice casting.

Gosh, that brings back a memory - my cousin had one of those Golfs, silver with a colossal curved air dam on the front... I kinda coveted it, even though it looked nothing like a normal Golf.

Wasn't aware it was made by Polistil - though he also had a blue Jaguar E-type by Polistil which I later came to acquire - so maybe there was somewhere local to him that sold them (they lived in Burnley).

Also had the brown 1/24 Hot Wheels Fiat Uno, with slightly odd stickers featuring a green elephant on wheels, if memory serves...

Ha ha yes it was a green elephant! I sold it in The Great Sale of 2013-2015 so it may be that another shiter has it now.

Polistil also did 1/25 versions of these pimped cars which were incredibly basic. I guess they were a budget line alongside their lovely regular 1/24 car range.

Bburago did the budget range of 1/24s far better under the 'Super' category in the very early 1980s evidenced by, I think, yellow wheels, no steering and less accessories. If you are lucky enough to have a boxed 1/24 Bburago, you can see the whole range categorised as such on the back.  I think it would come out too small if I tried to picture one, I'll give it a try though.

I have that one, got it from Mk2_craig from here. Its quite hard to find and is definitely one of my favourite Bburagos. It seems like a slightly more premium midel as it has silver wheels, steering and more detail however I think by the time it was released in the mid 1980s the 'super' range had been merged. I'll check all my boxes to see later.

A local supermarket years ago used to get those yellow - wheeled Bburagos, they came out at about £3.99 each which was a bargain at the time, I ended up getting quite a few. From what I remember, I got the Datapost Metro, Fiat Spyder Abarth, Golf MK1 in black with a massive yellow body kit very similar to that Polistil one, and the Zakspeed Capri.

I also remember having a few of the 1/24 Polistil jobs that did away with axles and had the wheels on plastic stubs as mentioned above, the wheels on most were like the 5 spokes fitted to  Ferraris at the time. I had a metallic brown series 2 E type 2+2, (I also got a silver one later as a birthday present), a wide bodied BMW 3.0 CSL, a wide bodied Porsche 928 and the most unusual, a Renault Fuego with a nice set of realistic alloy type wheels and in a nice shade of metallic blue.

I must still have most of these still in the loft at my mother's house. I know somewhere in my loft, there's a 1/24 BBurago Fiat Cinquecento as well, not to mention a 1/24 Chinese off-brand Ford Ka....

Ok so I seemed to have got completely confused about the whole Bburago 'Super' range of 1/24 cars.

Here is what I thought was a super:

20200112_211444.thumb.jpg.6055e00478208716371811ad015585e5.jpg20200112_211519.thumb.jpg.ad0d0cf1fa4b8d10c92691241e69821c.jpg

Red box, yellow decoration, yellow wheels, no steering and stickers only partially applied. Instructions on how to do so on the back and no list of other models shown. Doors and boot open but its otherwise quite a Spartan model. Classic fragile red generic steering wheel and gearstick in situ here with plain grey moulded interior.

I got my original Metro for my birthday when I was in Primary 2 so that would be September 1985. This one was bought to replace its husk in 2003, together with a similarly boxed Golf.

20200112_211546.thumb.jpg.c199222675c87a9d3a1ad8088ccac0f7.jpg20200112_211555.thumb.jpg.dc3195b4243709b0f2690e9c0f80510b.jpg20200112_211713.thumb.jpg.bd624e3921d4b0f3234129b73507e18b.jpg

Now, this Alfa Guilia almost certainly can't be later than 1985 but as you can see it is very different. It is very detailed for example chrome plates behind the lights, 4 opening features and steering with silver wheels. Said wheel is modelled (very accurately I must say) on the 1/1 item and the seats are adjustable. The box is much more colourful. However you will see that there is no mention of a 'Super' range, instead this Alfa would have fallen under the 'Steerable' category.

Moving forward, my friend in Primary 4 lent me his 1/24 Bburago Mercedes 190. That would have been 1987/88. This one here (bought from MK2 Craig a few years ago) is well detailed. It only has opening doors but it has the wonderful moveable wiper, nice lughts and a decent interior. Silver wheels and steering of course.

20200112_212323.thumb.jpg.8c65d46d71c0bfcc18c180777a1ccdb1.jpg

Turning it over however, reveals that this model is indeed a 'Super'. I don't recall any of the more basic range being available by the late 1980s.

Some models like the Matra Rancho didn't have steering but this was ceded in favour of full opening features and accessories.

I wish there was more information on Bburago models as they seem to be becoming quite collectable.

Here is a bonus picture of my 1/24 Regata. It's kind of a mid-range sort, with steering but less detail than the fine Alfa Guilia.

20200112_212447.thumb.jpg.fdf4533d17d96dcacaf03d4d0f050e6f.jpg

I could bang on about these all night and bore you all with pictures and details of my whole Bburago 1/24 collection.

....and then there's the Polistils but I made video about those.....

So, earlier I mentioned a 1/24 Ford Ka,

I found it.

IMG_20200112_183320.thumb.jpg.cbf2140a31780691c81daea3ae9e97b5.jpg

A Superior product. And an official Ford Licensed Product, no less!

IMG_20200112_183256.thumb.jpg.b9c3aaa056a6f4e3f3b5c04e7a215ccc.jpg

A few years ago, my local newsagent used to sell the odd diecast, with the emphasis on the word odd. He had this up for about £7.99 and this being about 1999/2000-ish, I had never seen another Ka in diecast form so I bought it.

As can be seen, it is a toy really, (evidenced by the pull-back motor), but it's pretty well rendered.

IMG_20200112_130457.thumb.jpg.ce05280b6e462e83540b7bcee64299a2.jpg

IMG_20200112_130517.thumb.jpg.37626f48bc6c4a06ef776872739c1de4.jpg

Not seen another anywhere since. However two are currently on eBay, offered by a Japanese seller who obviously has a grand opinion of what these are worth...

Carrying on the 'forgotten diecast found in the loft' series, I also dug these out for a clean up,

IMG_20200112_131535.thumb.jpg.2c60761257e44ba0f0b62e514595b037.jpg

The short lived Corgi Haynes miniature history series, a little box set with a (slightly cheapened) Vanguards casting and a little book of facts on that car. Not a bad idea, but they didn't do many. I got the Capri and XR3 but didn't bother with the series 1 Land Rover. (I'm sure they did another but can't think what)

So, the XR3,

IMG_20200112_131305.thumb.jpg.e078ece63570a30c0c3ea9f591a47527.jpg

IMG_20200112_232853.thumb.jpg.7003f5fa0a28863ceda3758ed56223c6.jpg

The Vanguards XR3 was fairly recent when this version came out. The main reason I got this was because Corgi were doing them for about £14.99 and the proper Vanguards release in black was already getting scene-taxed to fuckery, going for around £30-£40. The Haynes version is cheapened a little. The mirrors are plain black with no white inserts, the bumpers are plain black, there are no photo etched wipers, the steering wheel is the same grey as the rest of the interior, and the spats in front of the rear wheels were left body colour. This annoyed me so as can be seen, I set to with a black Sharpie... It could do with the rear screen surround blacking out too.

And the Capri 2.8i,

IMG_20200112_131600.thumb.jpg.2382212eaf4eee228c11cb66b73a5661.jpg

Again, not bad for the money at the time, comparing pretty well with the Vanguards release (I have the blue & silver one to compare it with).

IMG_20200112_131701.thumb.jpg.e31735a4da1035170436be2c7eb52464.jpg

IMG_20200112_131722.thumb.jpg.b40e0f90ae511ef43be834275cca9a39.jpg

At first I thought the single colour was more cheapening, but a bit of research showed the real PUY 3Y is in fact single tone blue. I think it'd look better with the side running strips picked out in black. The stripes and boot decals are nicely done. Again, the single coloured interior (including steering wheel) and lack of wipers are the only giveaway that it's not a full spec Vanguards release.

Even the books aren't too bad, quite readable. They were written by that man again, Giles Chapman, (yes, I know to some folk on here, those last two sentences are not compatible!), 32 pages in all, and have some nice period magazine and advertising pics,

IMG_20200112_131340.thumb.jpg.51c7f1ba4fc031f1eeea06ed6ebec166.jpg

IMG_20200112_131750.thumb.jpg.5f9f69c5cbc0d7e2424aad90ec429b8f.jpg

I'll probably never make a fortune out of them, but they're a nice part of the collection.

And tonight, after a couple of relaxing shandies, the rough-as-bollocks Cortina S came into the lowering shop!

IMG_20200112_225348.thumb.jpg.d2690ad641e80a83572e043b3ece784e.jpg

It came to me for a few quid unboxed and with a bit of damage so was an ideal candidate!

IMG_20200112_225751.thumb.jpg.c5a3356062631af210c7404e70e83dd7.jpg

It now has a set of replacement mirrors and a pair of front spotlights. In this condition, and now it's lowered, it reminds me of the sort of old Fords you could see flying about around here back in the early 90's. Might see how a set of Capri pepperpots look on it....

No! MK4 2.0S looks perfect on the Tinilites. Might have to track one of these down to replicate my dad's one

The listing in Japan is with free postage.  According to the parcelmonkey website that is 35 GBP on a 2 kg package. Makes it look better but still no bargain.

My first attempt at flip paint, I'm grinning like mad at how this has come out, especially as it's thinned cheap nail varnish off eBay applied with my ancient airbrush. It's come a long way from the overpainted mess I started with, going to have to find some special wheels for this one
