I have a purple VW 1600TL too (bought from the same stall as the Zodiac, in Brighton), and didn't know they'd been modified later and all... might schedule a study session with my Matchbox catalogues later on.

There are two different kinds of regular wheels, some have separate tyres (like mine), some have stuck on hubcaps. Think I might be missing one wheel/colour combo too

A broadspeed V6 in a car with the bulk of a zodiac would be as much use as an ashtray on my hayabusa.

Smaller and lighter than a 1.0 Ecoboost Mondeo...

i had 3 in my misspent youth and they were surprisingly quick ( by 80's standards) when driven by a teenager with no imagination as to what might happen if he didn't manage to get round the next corner.

This is the only picture I've got of my first Executive when I was 17, I'm the lanky gormless looking fucker with all the hair, the others are my brothers.

Is it that day?

It is that day.

And a cold, bright crispy one in Belfast, so I hope you brought your hat and mittens.

20191108_090935.thumb.jpg.3a3859b3ca906a7ac0aa1ec8d20275de.jpg

Tat Stall #1 was surprisingly busy on arrival; it took me a while to fight my way to the front past all the other weirdos and freaks.

Just as well I'm neither.

498384813_Jack_Nicholson_One_Flew_Over_The_Cuckoos_Nest.jpg.b6d5d1e298c3a11873643b2810bd92cf.jpg

And there was much to delight... get a load of these.

20191108_085033.thumb.jpg.5b97f598a71d243bd386fe90a5bd0bed.jpg

Some early 70s Corgi Whizzwheels in very nice condition:

Mercedes C111 concept car was pretty much mint; the Datsun 240Z had been touched up with a dab of white paint in places but was still presentable; ditto the Custom Stingray (bumpers/base touch-up).

Minissima is a weird one that I've long coveted; this example wasn't bad, but had more than a few toybox dings and scrapes. It was wider than I thought, too - have never actually handled one before.

The blue Dinky Daimler 2.5 was less happy though, having sustained a large ding to the roof, plus broken glazing.

The two Porsche racers (blue, and red/white) were also very nearly mint, while the Marcos and the Ford GT70 had a few chips but still looked decent enough.

The Dyane and the R5 from two weeks ago have just enough paint damage to put me off.

Batmobile at the front is fairly comprehensively banjaxed, missing wheels, glazing etc. Very much a Tatmobile, this one.

These are all priced at £5, except the Dinky tractor and trailer combo at the back, which is a tenner.

20191108_085128.thumb.jpg.d7a6054ff81a3913741d020bf809edf4.jpg

And there's more Corgi delights up top, too:

Porsche Carrera Targa sorely tempted me, but I dithered and agonised, and put it back... and I'll likely run back at lunchtime, unless someone wants to save me from myself.

Range Rover Vigilant had excellent paintwork and that lovely clean feel of a newly-unboxed model - though the roof-mounted spotlights were both broken, with one missing entirely.

The beach buggy at the front was kinda fun, but not quite my bag.

Radio Luxembourg van was missing its battery cover and had been touched-up with white paint a little, but otherwise decent (and probably better than my example).

Again - £5 on each here.

And that was kinda all the excitement, to be honest - the rest of the stall was more modern stuff, but here we go with it anyway:

20191108_085152.thumb.jpg.6a6a81818e5c8cabc6946e656e092d25.jpg

Bikes 'n' F1 - £5 each.

I didn't see the big box of dusty Corgi F1 cars from last week - as someone on here was looking the Tyrell - but, on asking, apparently they all went last week. Apparently. I've been told this before only to see something resurface weeks later, so we'll see...

20191108_085203.thumb.jpg.0d8c2d71e6921e75965e77f47d2d3d68.jpg

Oxford 1/72, which are bloody difficult to snap with low sun coming through the doors - all £3 each, which wasn't bad.

Fair few Austin K8 vans; Mk 1 Lotus Cortina, Austin FX4 taxi, Standard Vanguard, Ford Pop, Rover P6 V8, Jaaaaag Mk2...

20191108_085207.thumb.jpg.24fa85d10cd782aa7a5f6de9dcba9a54.jpg

More Oxford, a lone Cararama Land Rover SIII, other Atlas sportsing cars, plus a Corgi Ford Pop in a Ferrero Rocher box... hmmm.

20191108_085213.thumb.jpg.185578a17eacc2aab54666e690349924.jpg

Buses and whatnot - Corgi, EFE, Atlas.

Plus the EFE Triumph set, from their brief 1990s foray into 00 trackside cars - these never seemed to sell well, surprisingly, and the model shop I used to work in had loads of these lying around as dead stock for the best part of a decade, along with the other MGB/Frogeye Sprite set.

20191108_085220.thumb.jpg.d0f28ea47d6836321012fbfa8fe45ea1.jpg

Trains, too. plus a couple of fire engines.

Hard to make out, but there's a Bedford RLHZ 'Green Goddess' Mobile Pump by Atlas towards the front there, in Home Office Training Column livery.

It's nice, but I'm still scratching my head about why Atlas tried to market this as a partwork collection, when it basically amounted to buying the same damn model over and over again but with very minor differences in the insignia.

I do like my distinctive Northern Ireland version though, in eyepopping DoE yellow and orange livery (to avoid any confusion with military vehicles), cribbed from this very stall a few years back.

880307520_AtlasEditionsBedfordRLHZNIDoE.jpg.796902f698d4cc84afd3b7bc34f86643.jpg

What else?

20191108_085225.thumb.jpg.af09df34f838797761efc60b61c52352.jpg

Obligatory MoY and Corgi Classixxx…. meh.

The £2 table was there as per last week, consisting MoYs, Days Gone, and a clatter of Shell promo Maisto supercars.

I refrained from wasting my pixels on them.

So! No 50p tat box from Market Blokey this week either, to my eternal distress... but more to follow!

*wrings hat in anticipation* Recovery LR in the first picture looks interesting.

Yeah, forgot to mention that one - not sure if it's the same model that keep cropping up, or just that many different Dinky S3s keep appearing with the same damage!

Casting is good, towing frame intact but glazing and roof lights are missing, plus the hook and rope is long gone.

But certainly a viable resto, as I believe reproduction bits are available?

Ooops, that wasn't quite all from Tat Stall #1: there were also these 1990s Matchbox Collectibles models.

20191108_085515.thumb.jpg.262ad4cda9898eed354351676166afac.jpg

20191108_085523.thumb.jpg.1eeb8bc3354b2bf7b9ab118fe3b391c8.jpg

20191108_085530.thumb.jpg.310a2cab673e5456128a1b752e97b6a7.jpg

These had a peculiar tug for me, as I remember getting a brochure through the post for this 'Citroen Type H Collection' from Matchbox. Six models, all featuring big-name French brands.

I really wanted these, but you couldn't just buy one - you had to sign up for the whole set.

On £2 a week pocket money, that wasn't going to be feasible.

Looking at them again, twenty-odd years later, there's definite appeal but they do seem just a smidge crude, with plasticky wheels, paint blemishes and liveries that seem a bit too modern (Yoplait was another one; can't remember the other two).

Still, an interesting choice for a collection, since a future of being repurposed as hipster gourmet burger vans was still very much in the distance for the Type H.

And there was also this:

20191108_085235.thumb.jpg.23ae1c53f6c750da0bc10e2c24df2003.jpg

Again, a bit of a nostalgia pull as my first plane journey was on a Spanair flight to Majorca.

This airport set, laughing in the face of scale consistency, was no doubt something flogged at ruinous prices via the in-flight magazine to pacify fractious kids.

I would have loved an airport set that had a large, accurate plane with airside vehicles made to the correct scale - but I never saw one.

So that definitely finishes the main tat stall, but sadly there wasn't really anything else on the other stalls today.

Alan's Emporium had the bonnetless Superfast '57 Chevy, but that was that.

Giffer Alley was...

20191108_091554.thumb.jpg.815d9adf43d91f68f58cdce6f7300544.jpg

...predictable.

Giffers gonna giffer, hey?

Even the Charity Stall had its face turned against me this week - not only was the Deluxe Tat Box not forthcoming today, but even the Pleb Tat 20p box had been emptied out -  with the contents bagged up into £1 bags of mostly rubbish.

20191108_090840.thumb.jpg.a9fa6f65f9b6774b34f07de3e05ffa36.jpg

Nah mate, not worth it. Sorry.

There was another box of bigger toys, but these two were busy loading themselves up with broken plastic rubbish, no doubt for the 'granchilder' - so I didn't get near it.

20191108_090756.thumb.jpg.df90a34336c57e20babbeefd3cda26a5.jpg

Didn't look that promising, mind you.

So a mildly frustrating expedition this morning... I really am missing the 50p box rummaging. There were certainly some nice models there, but nothing quite up my specific alley today.

Perhaps I should turn to some of the markets other bargains? Who wouldn't want Half Price Trouser's?

20191108_090943.thumb.jpg.08111c8238099ceeee353b8350eda4ba.jpg

I may have to head over to the Smithfield model shop over lunch to satisfy my tiny tat urges...

20191108_110812.thumb.jpg.7baf101d22077794ce07c164ed31bc04.jpg

The £3 Oxfords appealed, and I snaffled these two.

20191108_110820.thumb.jpg.38921629ebbef7b05bce1a220500b11f.jpg

I've been after a small-scale Triumph 2000 for a while, and this Inca Yellow example looked really quite nice.

20191108_110830.thumb.jpg.d194d03d05a1c917ea0e6a8ae482be2b.jpg

While I don't think the lines are quite right, I do quite like these Capris. This 3.0 S version (replica of The Professionals' transport?) seemed a decent find.

Incidentally, I also have a red Capri 1.6 Laser, boxed and as new, which I'm happy to rehome for £3. I just like the silver one better, so one out, one in...

The Oxford catalogue came from the fella on the only proper model stall at the market, who stocks most of the Oxford range as well as a slew of Days Gone and other oddities by Greenlight and Whitebox (not that cheap, though, and tending more to Fast & Furious type models) - some nice upcoming castings in their railway scale, such as a Renault 4.

He did, however, mention that another price rise was on the cards...

So! That, as they say, is that for this week... but I'll bop on over shortly to see about that Corgi Marcos, and mebbe the Porsche 911 Targa and all...

Til next time!

I'm pretty sure OWC 827W was a Capri the Professionals did indeed use.

Now then, Austin K8s: I'd like a cheap 1/43 scale van (as opposed to ambulance) so if you see one that's scuffed enough for repainting...  Before I was born my dad drove one as a company van, so I'd like to paint one up to match his,

The canopy still slides out and everything.

All at 50p each, should you fancy them!

I'll bag that if FakeConcern doesn't want it...thanks

Sorry, should have picked up on this sooner - now set aside for you!

One of my favourite bits about tat Friday

:-)

I know, I'm incorrigible... I s'pose what I mean is that I failed to find something amazingly shiteworthy I didn't know existed, or a marvellous rarity, or even something comically badly done in diecast.

While I like the Triumph very much, it was more like filling in a blank... I've been meaning to get one for a while, but because I could have picked one up anywhere, anytime... the thrill's not really there.

I guess I'm just feeling a bit...

Heh, I'd been mildly concerned that dispatching grubby tat in high-end consumer electronics boxes might be a cause for sitcom levels of domestic confusion, to the point that I've taken to scrawling "Not an" above the iPad or iPhone logo.

The reason I've been sending so many like that isn't because my of high-roller lifestyle, generated by hedge fund manager levels of speculation in the Tat Futures Market, but rather because MrsDC's desk is near to her place's IT bods, and she nicks the empty boxes from their recycling bin on my behalf.

If the Royal Mail is scanning these parcels, they probably think I'm running one of those 'housebrick in the PlayStation box' mail order scams... I mean, who in their right mind would fill an iPad Pro box with a load of scratched Matchbox toys?

Thanks for the info on the LR, not really looking for a resto at the moment though.

Not a bother - it just struck me that I would quite like a Land Rover LWB after all, and with screws on the base and Steve Flowers stocking remanufactured glazing, I was thinking that this could be a good way to pop my restoration cherry... but not this week.

Excellent, thanks for the confirmation! Will look out for a K8 - it's not uncommon for dusty, unboxed Oxford diecast to rock up at the stall, so I'll add this one to your 'looking for' list.

Yes, I have a 'looking for' list on my phone, for regulars on this thread.

A surprisingly capable vehicle that the newspapers often slagged off unfairly. Ok it wasn't as good as a modern fire applicance but as an actual engine for pumping water (what it was built for) it was in many way superior.

Could've used them with all the flooding we have had lately !

I do need a Matchbox Beach Hopper/Baja Buggy/Beach Buggy to use as a donor for a top secret project though...
