Love the Alfa, really nicely detailed, with quad exhausts and the badging is really nicely done. The fintail is a good casting, nice packaging as well. The Caprice is a nice old land-yacht from my favourite era of Yank-mobile. Would have preferred it in brown though! Loads of Trekkers as well, I'll probably go back for one of those... I was slightly taken aback very early this morning upon innocently popping into the Shrewsbury branch to buy some lunch. The subjects today are the FSO 223 concept car: And the Mercury Marauder Breezeway: I started with some cheapo Chinese models, a regular FSO 223 and a Marauder coupe. Then stripped them and fashioned an approximate shape using plastic card. Then used regular car filler to get the right* shape. Slapped a bit of paint on and wound up with these: Close enough for me Running out of ideas now... The Passat is an old Schuco, the first in my collection. The SM is a very early (1970?) issue, with different coloured headrests to the rest of the interior, a known quirk of this era Solido. egg Posted October 17, 2019 Share Posted October 17, 2019 Interesting exchange on Yootoob (it does happen) about the effects of caustic soda on glass jars when stripping mini-shite - I made a comment that the guy was using the same jar over and over again, and I wondered if the reaction would weaken it and likely cause a breakage... Quote When sodium hydroxide is dissolved in water it feels warm, which indicates an exothermic reaction. NaOH (s) → Na+ (aq) + OH– (aq) Its nothing to worry about as the reversal of it when it can cause harm. (when the formula is reversed). Leaving something like a casting in sodium hydroxide would mean it could cause harm to the jar due to the crystals reforming in the water whilst cold, also the amount of chemical used is important. The ratio is 30ml to 3g of NaOH. As long as you rinse the jar out every time you should be fine using something like a hotdog jar 1000 times as the jar doesn't get affected only the casting. I'll give out my Paypal details at the time of sending because I trust you lot! Anyway, the old slimming down of things I own is going even worse than at my last report. I didn't leave Stockholm empty handed. Weirdly, a souvenir shop was selling unboxed but labeled 1/24 diecast American cars. I fell in love with this so my wife bought it for me: 1979 Ford F150 Custom. I love the colour, the frontal styling and the fact that it is based on a standard model and not a big-wheel or stepside. Just how I recall them from films at the time. I had also hoped that the Volvo Showroom in Stockholm did diecast. They did and I got this 1/43 Norev S60 for a surprisingly good price compared to ebay. A 1/1 scale example was also present and I have to say it's a very handsome car indeed. I also arrived home to this Mira Ford Taunus. At a tenner plus post I was initially disappointed that I didn't read the advert properly as I thought it was 1/43 scale however it is closer to about 1/53 which is a very odd size. Still, what's done is done and it's the only model of a MK5 I have seen other than the large scale battery operated ones posted up earlier. I think they're actually the same casting, there are usually quite a few on ebay. Liking that Mira one though, reminds me of all the exotic miniature shite I used to bring back from Benidorm in the '80s. Love the line drawings showing the opening boot bonnet & doors of the E Type, plus the colour rendering that manages to look nothing like the Available Later model... . It looks like I doodled on the Toyota. The Green Hornet? Never heard of him... Why is Steed's Bentley red? A very small section devoted to BMC. Obviously I had all of them! More great line drawings showing details on the Yank section... I don't remember ever seeing the Lancia in anything except blue like the one I had (have?) I always wanted the rally VW, but the toy shop only ever had the Police one at Christmas & birthday time, so I had that. Never liked it... I loved my Lotus gift set, also had an orange and white Elan in with it as well... I had a Mustang like the one below, but when i looked through all the old toys it wasn't there... Ticked the cars I had on the check list... What did the Oldsmobile Toronado win? I never liked any of the Classics despite including a scale model of Ian Carmichael... No... Loved my transporter... The Commer vans with interchangable rear was great! My fave combination was white van with yellow pick up as it always looked wrong... Those line drawings again... Ever see an Anglebox ice cream van? Me neither... Why did Corgi & Dinky make so many models of agricultural vehicles & equipment? I was never a fan... I carefully put all the transfers on in the correct place according to Corgi. I was very upset when I found they bore little relation to the real thing... Hard to show properly as doesn't fit on the scanner opened out, but you get the idea... I never liked the circus models Corgi were fond of... Must be when they intrduced the Corgi Rockets and I never could see how the Golden Key would "tune up" the toy car... Another completed check list... Pre Whizzwheels Sting Ray & Mangusta with detachable chassis, I loved them both... I had the Hunter, Mini Marcos & Camaro with the golden jacks. They got played with so much the spring went out of the suspension and the wheels would randomly fall off... The Camero had the hidden headlights, that was great as well... Always wanted the Renna 16, never got one... All of these a waste of space to the ten year old me... Split_Pin Posted October 17, 2019 Author Share Posted October 17, 2019 Thanks for scanning these FC. I am 93% certain that the Swan-neck tipper trailer issued with the Unimog was later used by Joal. I had one behind a Pegaso Comet Tractor some years ago. I am even more certain that the Ford tractor was later issued under the Britain's brand as it looks identical to the one I had. Golden jacks were great but could snap off if you ran it on a deep pile carpet. Never had that worry in my house! I still have the Mini Marcos and the Hunter.
