Shite in Miniature II

I didn't know Hot Wheels did a Series III Land Rover so when I saw one I had to buy it, along with a couple more cars as it was 3 for the price of 2.

I also went to Tesco's this morning in search of new Matchbox, no individual cars but I did get a pack of nine which included the Merc estate, Lotus Europa and a Golf Country Syncro among others.

Been tinkering with the Tissier and the Westminster today.  Westminster has had all the Westminster bits removed and I'm now building up the Morris elements.  The Westminster is being turning into a replica of @320touring's Morris Oxford, a task that I thought originally would be a simple repaint until I looked at just how different the Austin and Morris variants of this car actually are.  Bonnet, grille, side trim, and even rear wings are different.  Going to be a fair amount of filing to get it where I want.

Cool can you put it aside for me please?

Picked up a couple of nice old Lesney VWs locally - this one seems to have had a repair where the tab holds the body on

Its Beetle counterpart

Also found a guy locally who seems to be a serious toy hoarder, got another Piston Popper off him

Which poses me a slight problem, as the one I was going to use as an engine donor is broken, and I hadn't realised

Hopefully I can repair it somehow

The BMC Pininfarina looks like it's missing an A-post and the roof's borked, plus appears to have been treated to one of my quality* repaints before being packed in salt.

The Rolamatics Ford has typically shonky axles and is missing its rear cover (and the lion).

I used to feel a lot more precious about Lesneys until I heard that in their heyday the London factory was knocking out six million models a week. Now, I don't know if that's entirely accurate but they did make a frankly mindboggling amount of tiny toys which were shipped all round the world.

There's still plenty of good 'uns left without worrying about modifying or salvaging scrap ones like these. Fill yer boots.

If you do, can I pinch the Rollamatic axles off the truck? Cos the one on my Piston Popper is broken, and I want to keep the pistons moving once I fit the engine into the Vantastic.

Talking of which;

There are more casting differences than I expected, engine hole is the same size but different mounts

Body is different behind the grille

Harder to see but the headlight/grille area are different widths

Even the windscreens are different - I had assumed it was Mustang up to the B pillars but the apertures are different sizes

Looks like I'll be using the Vantastic base (the body has cutouts in the sills for the side pipes anyway) and modifying it to take the Rollamatic axles

An even better* idea is to give it the missing 4 cylinders

Now it's a proper Mustang popping its pistons
