Being the Cortina nut round here thought I better try putting these up, Bulgarian ones are mainly ones in yellow card packs plus some loose ones.

Also there a re quite a few of my modded ones the 4 large mk5's red EST, yellow saloon, police saloon & ambulance EST are Spanish remote control ones.

The black coupe is an Argentine Mk5 in blown plastic.

You're quite correct,I did have them from you,& they are in my pic.I didn't realise for quite a while that I had bought stuff from you before you were selling on here.I think I had an orange VW van,& a boat with trailer(both Majorettes) as well ?

Ah yes, the Majorettes... sounds about right, maybe a blue Simca/Chrysler Alpine too??

Think it took me a while to realise that you were on here too!

Crikey Moses - I think you win this round!!!

There were some great Spanish remote control cars back in the 70s/80s - I received a few from my grandparents on their return from Benidorm, but sadly none survive.

Thanks,

it's an obsession that started as a kid this place is full of Cortina MK3/4/5 memoriblia plus seven 1:1 scale versions.

Ive also most real UK market fords in 1/43 & 1/76 upto 1999 except the odd silly price or not modelled.

Few more parts & I could probably build a new one!

To misquote " if you cut me,do I not bleed 20/50".

I've just been in the loft to find my Dinky Mini Moke from when I was a kid and also picked out a load of other toy cars in various stages of decay.

Among all these was my small collection of Cortinas...

This is the first Cortina I got a Dinky pre airflow with opening doors and steering wheels

At some point I repainted this a similar colour to the original although it now has a layer of mould on top

IMG_8861.thumb.JPG.0b4eae7e01eb8d393056fd549bc57e1a.JPG

Another Mk1, this time an estate by Corgi and it always irritated me that it was smaller than the dinky saloon and that it had the strange wood stuff on the side as I only ever remember seing one real one with it. Again refinished many years ago in original colour

IMG_8862.thumb.JPG.d18f9669c04df8b3ab75635927ee2b78.JPG

This was a favourite toy and so the paper stick on stripes and racing numbers quickly wore off and got repainted several times. The whole thing was repainted without the red boot and bonnet many years ago and still looks pretty good considering I was about 12/13 when I did it. I also see that I put a canterbury registration on it! Amazingly I still have the box.

IMG_8863.thumb.JPG.bdda2b60d255c7a56c45071e119eb924.JPG

My most recent Cortina a nice Mk3 belonging to Graham Hill, the box is even signed by him so it must be true

IMG_8864.thumb.JPG.048d0bb98857880ba902ac9129ca42e7.JPG

As I was getting these out I also found some interesting other Fords

A Corgi Capri I got when it first came out whenever that was and originally white with a matt black bonnet, much abused and now yellow, not found anything except the body so far...

IMG_8869.thumb.JPG.abd051d5dc236bbcd4d124ffadc7c2df.JPG

This was a really nice Dinky Capri until the young me decided it needed a sunroof and set to it with a junior hacksaw! It also at some time benifitted* from a painted matt black vinyl roof, since removed with polish.

IMG_8867.thumb.JPG.00610f251e73e2146717b30ed50802df.JPG

This Dinky Escort suffered much abuse including a full set of rally stickers I got from somewhere and a nice matt black bonnet, since repainted in original colour blue

IMG_8865.thumb.JPG.e0e0d92bade7c6aa180eea53f483d5ba.JPG

Lastly what must be a bit of a strange one as it's a Hotwheels model, but in the same or similar scale as Corgi/Dinky. At some point I had an earlier Corgi Mustang in white with red stripes and a Dinky one in red, neither of which I can find now. This one originally had Boss 302 stickers and stripes stuck on together with the pony logo on the rear quarters, these all curled up and were removed and chucked decades ago. I was fascinated by the peculiar way the black detail was applied to the bonnet (the whole section can be removed!) and loved the "venetian blind" rear window slats!

I must be unique as I never had a toy Cortina when I were a lad and now I feel like I've missed out on a formative experience. I did have a couple of Mk2 Granadas though if that makes up for it; they went to cms206 in my big toy giveaway at Shitefest 16.

My collection is not totally devoid of Cortinas though as I have Oxford Diecast's Mk2 and 3, plus one I took a hacksaw to and made into a Crayford convertible.

Crikey those Spanish 'mote control Cortinas are tremendous!

I didn't get my first Cortina until I was 9. I thought my classmate was having me on when he said that Matchbox made a Cortina MK 4 until he brought a metallic red and a gold one in to swap with me. I still have the former.

The Pepsi Challenger-liveried Chevrolet Pro Stocker has a tale.

I received one of these in December 1984, I believe - my parents had gone up to Belfast to do some Christmas shopping one evening, leaving me and my infant brother with my grandparents. On their return (which seemed like the middle of the night, but was probably only about 9.30pm), I was presented with one of these, boxed, "for being good" (ha!). It came from Belfast's legendary Leisure World, a huge toyshop in Queen Street.

I really loved this particular toy, and it was briefly promoted to my 'best car' status - please tell me I'm not the only freaky kid who did this - until one day I was messing about in the back garden, whizzing my cars up the slide, when I overcooked it slightly - sending my Pro Stocker deep into the hedge behind. Much searching and clambering through the hedge failed to find it, and I was inconsolable.

About seven or eight years later, while trimming said hedge, my dad then found the car - now missing most of its paint and looking quite sad. In an effort to spruce it up, I tried to paint it... using Tipp-Ex.

You can imagine how good that looked.

I'm not sure whether I kept this or not, but anyway - this is a replacement of sorts, looking in roughly the same condition as mine when it went into the hedge in 1985.

Memories, hey?

Following on from my earlier ramblings... here's the Pepsi Challenger liveried MB34 Chevy Pro Stocker, contrasting my original lost-in-a-hedge version with a slightly better version from the tat stall.

20190926_002518.thumb.jpg.7684a917f4d5d247ae4244db73802826.jpg

It's not in great shape, my original one. But the more intact version brings back that rush of receiving mine new - I was intrigued by the see-through packaging of the new blue boxes, as usually the Matchbox cars I was still buying were old stock from local newsagents - which still came in the illustrated cardboard boxes. Wish I'd kept 'em!

20190926_002549.thumb.jpg.f61845f35c54af8a681f0809d2844a6f.jpg

It was indeed 'repainted' using a bottle of Tipp-Ex; most (but not all) of which I then scraped off at some point. What a mess.

20190926_002534.thumb.jpg.3fc30c417bc694e0900bb7db17518b88.jpg

Still - memories. This is another I'd like to procure in mint/boxed status... one day.

Siku, that is a bargain for 50p. I have the ADAC helicopter transporter which I got for Christmas 1992. I found its original box not so long ago, stored safely inside an empty Italeri truck model kit box, together with the box for my Parcel Force Iveco Turbostar.

Just to follow on from yesterday's ramblings on the MB34 Chevy Pro Stocker... it turns out there's two quite different castings in circulation.

The first, launched by Lesney in 1981, had somewhat over-large wheels but otherwise looked rather convincing as a Chevrolet Chevelle Laguna S3, the top-performance variant of the A-body Chevelle.

But two years later, when production shifted to Macau, the front end was significantly changed to blank off the grill louvres and headlights and put a much deeper front spoiler on.

Quite possibly this is why I failed to draw a connection between my little model and the car featured in the Cannonball Run, one of my guilty pleasures films...

1476336688_ChevroletChevelleLaguna-CannonballRunPoolScene2.thumb.jpg.92b98055e72182637993ce21e39c583c.jpg

1533724514_ChevroletChevelleLaguna-CannonballRunPoolScene.jpg.26e1c34b5734831905b07bfaf5417bca.jpg

… which in turn was a replica of Donnie Allison's succesful NASCAR Chevelle Laguna.

1977-daytona-500-Chevrolet-Chevelle-Laguna-Donnie-Allison.thumb.jpg.6cb99a4d81f42cb905d4f4b823fcc582.jpg

As 155V6 alludes, the Chevelle was a notable NASCAR racer: the unique sloping polyurethane front end had been designed for speed, and as such it was a runaway success, scoring 53 Winston Cup victories between 1973 and 1977, 34 of which were won by driver Cale Yarborough alone.

1977-Chevrolet-Laguna-Cale-Yarborough.thumb.jpg.b41858b1ef73d945b3e45a8a96d6e5c3.jpg

In fact, so successful was the Chevelle Laguna that NASCAR organisers did the only thing they could to maintain competition - legislated them off the track. For the 1978 season, competing Lagunas were required to be fitted with a 'restrictor plate' - something no other car was required to have. Racers had little option but to move on to other cars such as the Chevrolet Monte Carlo instead.

I reckon these look better in their racing trim than they do as a civilian model.

273755189_1975ChevroletChevelleLaguna-NeilBonnet.thumb.jpg.0144a95214cd17c88d207aa639efe5a6.jpg

Even though they'd been out of circulation in the real world for four years before the Matchbox version arrived, MB34 proved a popular model which clocked up five years in the main Matchbox lineup before spending many more years appearing in racing sets, gift packs and as Laser Superfast and Road Blasters versions.

Siku did make some bloody lovely trucks. For 50p, that's quite a find!

Planning on doing some proper scans of my catalogues over the winter this year...

I had a very similar catalogue, I think it might have been 1988 or 89 and I recall looking longingly at all the vehicles, particularly the cars because they were so unlike the Matchbox and Corgi that I had.
