The hot rod at the top, could that be Micro Machines or something similar?

I think you could be on to something there...

1933 Willys Coupe? Seems to have been made in a number of different colourways, including with flame graphics - though I can't yet find a pic of that specific yellow/red version...

[Pro tip: when Googling 'images of 33 Willys' in work, turn the SafeSearch function to ON, yeah?]

What they didn't mention is the (now late) David Leeman was the Lesney MD for Australia and the South Pacific region during that time

Sorry to interupt the fantastic Matchbox catalogue scans, but I'd like some help identifying a couple of models on an old greetings card (!) As part of a strange seaside/holiday themed collection (don't ask) Mrs Concern has the card below and quite a few of the models featured on it. She's decided she'd like to collect all of them and there's a few I don't know..

I've always been curious about the small Matchbox Range Rover, I've always known it as Police Patrol, maybe due to licensing? The model has flat sides without the swage line that the real car has. However, the Paris-Dakar version in the 1983 catalogue is labelled as Range Rover, my version at home has Police Patrol on the bottom still.

Yeah, I've long since wondered about that too - the only possible reason I could come up with for not simply calling it a Range Rover was that it was originally part of the Rolamatics range.

They all had descriptive made-up names even when they were based on real cars - like the 'Piston Popper' (Mustang) and 'Hot Rocker' (Capri) - but the Range Rover was, I think, unique in being a completely new casting based on a real car. The rest of the Rolamatics range were either entirely new fantasy vehicles castings (Fandango, Clipper), new generic military models (Weasel, Badger) or versions of cars modified from older non-action castings (Beach Hopper, Turbo Fury, Piston Popper etc).

As shown in BB's scans, the Police Patrol also far outlasted all the other Rolamatics, still appearing well into the 1980s in a variety of roles, and still sporting the not-very-impressive rotating beacon mechanism. In its original release, it's possible that the broad orange band stood in for the distinctive RR swage line (maybe it was easier to apply the stickers that way?).

Perhaps it was just an oversight that it was still etched as 'Police Patrol' on the base, even when depicted as a military ambulance, rally security vehicle and site engineer vehicle?

Out of interest, does your Paris-Dakar version still have the Rolamatics logo cast in - or had Matchbox removed that from the base at some point?

I can only assume that the Rangie was a strong seller for the company, for them to have kept it in the lineup for so long.

Weird, these have so much more appeal to me than Models of Yesteryear. Over-familiarity?

Either way, very nice!

These 'moyen age' Norevs are certainly cheaper now than the main range, so in that respect they are similar! I don't think many people collect them. There are 12 in this pre-war range, I think I have 4 of them now - I'll do a group shot at some point.

Can you take a close up of the hot rod?

The picture is small and my phone won't focus any closer so I've taken one on my camera using macro. Not sure it's any better!

The wheels are certainly correct, but the side window behind the door is not so maybe this make model, but of another car?

Oh thanks for this! Mrs Concern had cut the rest of the card off and put in a clip frame so we had no record of this.

Close, but I was thinking more of a 33/34  Ford 3 window like the Hotwheels version posted.Maybe it's not Micro Machines, but some kind of knock-off?

Mmm, that's interesting - same colour as mine, but quite a different grille with extra lights and - maybe - room for a sign?

Lovely casting, regardless - and another great haul there, young sir.

No idea about the blue Crescent truck, although I know DCMT sold diecasts under the Crescent Toys name in the 1950s and 60s - the N-reg and general look of that one would suggest they were still making toys into the mid-70s, too.

Google throws me up this solitary similar example...
