The model has flat sides without the swage line that the real car has. However, the Paris-Dakar version in the 1983 catalogue is labelled as Range Rover, my version at home has Police Patrol on the bottom still. Yeah, I've long since wondered about that too - the only possible reason I could come up with for not simply calling it a Range Rover was that it was originally part of the Rolamatics range. They all had descriptive made-up names even when they were based on real cars - like the 'Piston Popper' (Mustang) and 'Hot Rocker' (Capri) - but the Range Rover was, I think, unique in being a completely new casting based on a real car. The rest of the Rolamatics range were either entirely new fantasy vehicles castings (Fandango, Clipper), new generic military models (Weasel, Badger) or versions of cars modified from older non-action castings (Beach Hopper, Turbo Fury, Piston Popper etc). As shown in BB's scans, the Police Patrol also far outlasted all the other Rolamatics, still appearing well into the 1980s in a variety of roles, and still sporting the not-very-impressive rotating beacon mechanism. In its original release, it's possible that the broad orange band stood in for the distinctive RR swage line (maybe it was easier to apply the stickers that way?). Perhaps it was just an oversight that it was still etched as 'Police Patrol' on the base, even when depicted as a military ambulance, rally security vehicle and site engineer vehicle? Out of interest, does your Paris-Dakar version still have the Rolamatics logo cast in - or had Matchbox removed that from the base at some point? I can only assume that the Rangie was a strong seller for the company, for them to have kept it in the lineup for so long.

Either way, very nice! These 'moyen age' Norevs are certainly cheaper now than the main range, so in that respect they are similar! I don't think many people collect them. There are 12 in this pre-war range, I think I have 4 of them now - I'll do a group shot at some point. Datsuncog
