further adventures in diecast collecting means that these have been added to the collection recently.

first up, a pair of Matchbox Bedford OB Luton vans, which were part of Mr Ramrod's recent -ish sale of stuff. one is complete, while the other is missing its tail board. and as both have pretty nice paint, i got some replacement decals before adding them to display case.

then, also bought off this very thread, a Dinky Triumph TR7. a piece of 70's wedge, in slightly pogweaseled red, but otherwise nice condition. this is going to remain exactly as it is, cos i like it. interestingly, this is 1/43 0-gauge scale. most other things from the 1970s were to the larger 1/36 scale, so for Dinky to go back down to the older smaller scale is a strange choice.

then i got these, a matchbox Chevy Impala, and Lincoln Continental sedans. both of which are nice old cars.

and then this Matchbox Bedford tanker. this one still has its cab floor insert, and while i've added new decals on the tank sides, this is all i am going to do with this one.

730701908_2019-09-1817_32_35.thumb.jpg.d98bd9dc2b02470096648423aff4d4d8.jpg

and finally this, a Corgi Routemaster. with clippy, jewelled headlamps and rubber tyres.

interestingly* this bus is a different casting to the later silver jubilee one i've had since a nipper, which came as a suprise, i had assumed that Corgi had infact just continued to use the old tool and just added the speed wheels to it. but no, they used a while new tool for it!

Any chance of as much of the 80s matchbox as you can spare / hasn't been claimed, and the dyane, again if not required / dibsed?

I need some more mini tat... Do I even have a box started?

Yep, I think I have a coupla Corgi SD1s and a Volvo 240 or two with your name on them, so mini tat will certainly be coming your way...

Will add the Dyane in, and I may well have a sudden influx of 80s Matchbox up for grabs because...

You know that green zippy box pictured upthread? The one with my small nostalgia diecasts inside, that I haven't opened since last year?

Well, I opened it last night.

Turns out I've been mostly buying duplicates for the past nine months.

On the opposite end of the scale, have some more knockoffs, this time from Polistil castings.

At first glance, I thought the red car on the left was a Reliant Kitten.... but I'm guessing a Panda is nearer the mark?

Quality control in the sticker department must have been having an off-day when it came to the Ritmo...

I think I have a very, very wide Ritmo knock-off with tiny wheels too - must look that one out.

Nice additions, MM - and yeah, I'd like to know why the bigger toys in the mid-70s fluctuated so much. Corgi and Lesney ran different scales alongside each other too for a while - makes the pics in their catalogues look daft! Must take a look through my catalogues to see who was the first to bring in 1/36 scale stuff.

I’m a bit like that with duplicates. In a wierd way if I see something like an MB44 Skoda in a box full of stuff at a car boot I’ll buy it despite having several of them already in this strange belief I’m saving them from an awful fate. They then join the other thousand or so in the loft. When you break it down though there are thousands upon thousands of varieties, some seemingly same Matchboxes throughout the 80’s could be made in Macau or China. Bought a 57 thunderbird other day, thought shit I’ve duplicated but it had a amber screen and the other was clear. Got to keep it.

I know.

Tried the other scanner tonight. After downloading the driver from Canon, I found it cut the edges of the scan off, so you have to move the catalogue away from the edges of the bed a few mm. Then discovered it doesn't scan parallel so you have to have the catalogue at a slight angle - didn't always get this quite right! It also defaults to the lowest resolution for every scan, and decides where it's going to crop the image, so I've had to do that on Flickr. What a ball ache.

Anyway, here's Matchbox 1974;

Good to see the 1974 catalogue, for me I'd say that's the classic '70s Matchbox line-up. Much of what I had as a youngster can be seen on those pages. Not just the products but the packaging, takes me back to what I remember seeing in shops or catalogues and daydreaming about what to choose.

All those symbols for the Superfast are a bit confusing. Is a "gravity set" any of the tracks that rely on clamping something to a windowsill or table edge? If so I'd disagree about the suitability of a Rola-matics car like Piston Popper for that on my 400 Double Loop Racing Set, the little nib on the wheel makes them useless for that (so in my case it got cut off).

Thanks for posting the 1974 catalogue, great stuff !

I particularly liked the plastic kits in it, I remember building quite a few of those as a kid, the Lysander was a favourite as it went together really nicely, The box artwork was always cool & really made you want to buy it !  I think they changed the artwork later to be less violent looking - no guns firing etc (in other words made it crapper !)

Anyone else noticed that K-47 Easy Rider appears to be being ridden by Chewbacca ?

So Sea Kings are no more inspiring in pieces! The gun turrets just pop out and the whole thing is held together with plastic 'rivets'. However the wheels use large metal rivets to hold them in place.

I'm going to do a custom with it - either just a re-paint an re-assemble or maybe 'civilianise' it and fill the gun turret holes in for the LOLs*
