I'd also like the red Triumph and the black Granada, but I'm not willing to pay his price.  Have to wait for them to come down, I think...

Yeah, about that...

Bless me, Shiters, for I have sc3n3d...

Yes, I've done the very thing I swore I'd never do. I specifically bought these two to flip.

20190823_134016.thumb.jpg.100a3cfe6e2fafa28648bb01c5ff79ad.jpg

I'm not really much of a wheeler-dealer type. Whenever I've bought stuff from the stalls, whatever price I pay is the price you subsequently pay. Sometimes, because of my simply terrific business acumen, I offer discounts and freebies and end up making a minor loss. But hey ho. It's all good clean fun, and I do this Friday tat nonsense for the love of it, not the benjamins.

But after seeing these couple of Fords earlier, I peeped on eBay... and it seems the going rate for the XR4i is about £40, while the black Granada Ghia seems to hover around £50. Fark me.

Without going into too much detail, following some industrial unrest in my particular line of work, my upcoming pay packet is going to be a few hundred quid lighter then usual. Obviously this is less than ideal, especially with a cat who maims himself in minor ways on a regular basis.

So, with a heavy heart, I'm going to try my hand at the eBay shark tank. I've a box of other models under the bed which have failed to attract significant interest after a few airings here, so the idea is to attempt to make up the shortfall with diecast. As one does.

20190823_134045.thumb.jpg.270eb012cc7bd3327c45a7bb3c1f99ed.jpg

Fortunately, the previous owner stayed well away from these models with his leaky tube of Bostik. They're jolly dusty, but otherwise not too bad.

20190823_134057.thumb.jpg.b979af5760bde2eb65182c8070d22017.jpg

There's a slight bit of scuffing to the rear window though, seemingly caused by rubbing against the box's vac-formed insert. Meh.

20190823_134141.thumb.jpg.6e30e5d51fcfb8670d778c8e991714d8.jpg

I still think the wheels look wrongly positioned, though the Pepperpot rims are quite nicely done, I'll give it that.

20190823_134111.thumb.jpg.05eff70210c2b956884e7fa465fdace0.jpg

Overall - I've not a lot of desire to call this my own, but if the eBay denizens want to bid me, then I'll listen.

The Granada's similarly dusty, though seems unmarked.

20190823_134303.thumb.jpg.b6acddc093072bd089503ccfacc9f195.jpg

20190823_134314.thumb.jpg.0cf781dfb61abf7389dd1b1d048cf899.jpg

But I just can't jive with those rims. I'm sure Vanguards have managed more delicate mouldings, so I don't know why these look so blocky and filled-in where they should have holes. Possibly a black wash might make them look a little more realistic?

20190823_134322.thumb.jpg.dd78bbc8d8a806a8b201445f0f2f4317.jpg

I'll take them home, give them a good clean and polish, then take some better pics and bash them up for £9.99 starting price. Ebay keeps waving free listings offers at me, so I might take them up on it, finally.

Hopefully, I won't end up losing out...

(famous last words).

Aye. It's the horrors of capitalism... it seems that any Vanguards on the stall go very quickly - I've never seen any turn up for a second week, and it seems that the price fluctuates depending on what he's paid - the boxed Vanguards on the stall a fortnight ago were only a fiver each.

If I can at least not make a loss on these two, that'd be a start... but I do feel a little bit grubby as a profiteering free-marketer.

I'm sure if you hadn't brought them, someone would have likely done so for the same reason. May explain why all the other Vanguards sell so quickly?

I reckon they would be worth both starting at a min of £20 each, but if your in no rush maybe price them higher. Worse case you can always drop the price down. But's that's just my humble opinion see feel free to ignore it.

The Minichamps Scorpio saloon btw looks a right score too for £3. I paid more than that for a 1:87 scale version!

I'm very grateful for those honest pics of the Vanguards XR4i – I had previously been quite keen on picking one up, but agree with you that the shape is all RONG, and there's far too much curvature to the front plan view. In fact, the whole thing looks like it's been overinflated by a couple of bar.

On the other hand, I'm not too disgusted by the wheels on that Granny. Your Minichamps Scorp looks like the pick of the bunch, though. Great find.

Had the Cosworth sold?

No, the white Cosworth was still there - but it was missing a mirror and the box was quite badly bashed. I only had £20 on me, so I paid me money and took me chance, as it were... though like Eddie I took a shine to that red Triumph 2500 too, being nearly identical to one my uncle owned in the 1980s. It would have been worth selling my blue or green examples to make room for it!

I suspect that a few other chaps frequent the stall with a view to reselling - I could be wrong, but the way all the Lesneys are frequently scooped suggests a bulk-buyer in the vicinity rather than a collector...

Thrill of the chase, hey?

I'm very pleased with the Scorpio, though. That's my preferred find of the day.

Are the two grey saloons (possibly two tone) next to the red vw splittie MK1 zodiacs? If so would be interested in one if there next week.

Yes indeed - they're recent-ish models made by Classix at 00 scale; I think I might still have one in with my small-scale stuff, boxed.

Will keep watch for next week!

I've also found a model of a Buick electra park avenue similar to my real one.

It's made by GLM who I've never heard of, made in China and bought from a Russian seller and it was by far the most I've spent on a single model.

I was nervous about buying this, but Pastis fuelled a press of the "buy it now" button.

It arrived in under a week, superbly packed.

It's bloody nice :)

I have no idea about what there is in the 1970s/80s Majorette range, I'm always seeing more on here that are new to me like that Volvo.

What's the white thing on the right, Lancia Montecarlo? Also Majorette? Overly wide wheels on it look similar to the couple of their TR7s that I have.

Stuff I picked up at the charity shop and a show over the weekend:

IMG_9599.thumb.JPG.8e3c70a6e0e52b3ac01699227f827b62.JPG

All new additions to my little Corgi 1:36-ish collection. Caravan has survived particularly well.

IMG_9598.thumb.JPG.7fd2c26c308d32d028756208b694fa79.JPG

CX was the most expensive of these at a fiver.

IMG_9601.thumb.JPG.54bb3d81ed9ad2be5c343a7e35f5d6d4.JPG

Seller had one or two Husky things quite cheap, would have got the Zodiac Mk3 estate he had but the tailgate was broken but this Ford camper was nicely intact. AS colour scheme on the Datsun pickup which I don't recall seeing before.

IMG_9600.thumb.JPG.8d57e1be9d836332f45b99af6e19e5af.JPG

I had one of those Weetabix racing cars when I was young. Sierra and Mercedes appear to be Corgi mouldings, but without their name on.

As ever when a seller has a well-stocked stall but I'm conscious of not wanting to spend too much on a load of completely unnecessary stuff, I'm already regretting a few things I didn't get. Like the Bburago (or Polistil?) 1:24 Metro in racing livery and Opel Kadett coupe. Both had minor damage/missing parts but were a decent price.

Always thought that too ?

Schuco Passat is probably my favourite, along with the yellow Corgi Dodge Magnum which is not that common.
