Datsuncog
Well, tat-fans - another Friday, another peep into the glamorous world of high-class antiques and collectables... Rum one this week - on arrival at the customary stall of wonders, NOT A SINGLE MODEL was left over from last week. Sorry about that, folks. So he either had a fantastic run last week and sold everything, or else he left that box behind. But no 50p tat box, nothing. But there were diecast, oh yes. Just different ones. Mostly modernish unboxed Corgi Classics here... The Cortina Mk3 is from that peculiar Corgi 'Motoring Memories' range c.1997, and is a reworking of the 1970 Whizzwheels casting (y'know, the one with Graham Hill). Citroen Light 15 is a Solido example, with opening bonnet but broken back bumper. Minor Trav is a Days Gone Vanguards, c.1995. The Code 3 'Eason & Son' Morris LD150, with the Morris J and the VW Type 2 both marked 'East Antrim Diecast and Collectors Club' suggests the remains of an ex-collector's collection. Suzuki model kit is Italian (CCCI or something) and unbuilt. Unboxed buses, and various Corgi and Oxford Mini variants. The Austin FX4 is by Welly. Big 1/18 Minichamps Capri was priced at £40. Gulp. I enquired about this Dinky AEC Merryweather Fire Tender, which looked complete and in very decent nick: £15 takes this one. Seems reasonable value, in fairness. I'm not so into fire appliances, but this is a huge and very solid model and I was sore tempted... as the late Junkman of this parish might have commented: with that much metal in it, no wonder Dinky went bust. Also, since I'm still surfing my 1980s Corgi wave, I made enquiry about these pair... £10 each, he's looking. Okay then. He may keep looking. Both are chipped, and anyway I sold on an identical silver one last year for a fiver... for three or four pounds, well maybe, but I'm not that desperate. I think he may have just said the first number that came into his head. So I hoked, I poked, I scowled, and then I went off and bought a big bag of scones instead. I might go over to the model shop in Smithfield instead at lunchtime and see if that 1/43 Pajero's still lurking in the dump bin... But, as ever, if there's anything on the stall that makes your heart sing, I'll do my level best! egg, Amishtat, Burnside and 1 other

Datsuncog
I think it is - one of the earlier versions in the deep metallic red (later 1970s versions were a flat, bright red) Had a quick look to see where the hose might attach, but couldn't spot it. It is rather nice... ETCHY, Sudsprint and Six-cylinder
flat4alfa
The hose pops on the back IIRC and the squirty red push button is on the top. The hose usually is missing from the side compartment, but easily replaced with something else that will do Datsuncog

I s'pose since this is his business - rather than making some spare cash at a car boot sale - he maybe has to start off high with new stuff in the hope of finding some mug with a loose understanding of the exchange rate (there are a lot of foreign tourists in St George's over the summer). Next week he might be looking a fiver for the same. £3 the week after that. After all, this one only cost me £3 earlier in the year... While this repro only cost me a fiver: Some of his 50p stuff has been excellent value, while others are hopelessly overpriced beat-to-shit old Matchbox. It really is a lucky dip - but I guess that's part of the appeal. Burnside, Split_Pin, RayMK and 2 others
big_al_granvia
suppose if anything with a ford badge is getting stupid money in 12" to the foot scale then it makes sense that models are the same, that minichamps capri is lovely but would i pay 40 quid for it... err no, 20 perhaps Burnside, Datsuncog and Sudsprint
Burnside
Funny enough I've been looking for one of those Corgi 1/36 Sierra's to add to my collection. But I think at £10 I'd be expecting something near A1 and with a box too. Though ideally I want a Red one to match my smaller scale Corgi Sierra ! Split_Pin
That Minichamps Capri is 'good value' at £40, they normally go for double that. Datsuncog

Jon
That's defo a copy of that Matchbox Beetle , right down to the Monte Carlo plaque casting on the front bumper! Strange to think that Lesney didn't choose a more obvious Monte Carlo entrant but then I really rate that Beetle casting, so am glad they made it at all, tbh. Also, that Siku 928 looks excellent in blue - mine's silver, from memory. I've picked up a couple of random items of late but not had time to take any photos of them. However, I did do a re-shoot of some of my Iron Curtain models a few weeks back, as the book I'd got from the library had to be returned - hence a slight image overload, as I wasn't sure if I'd be able to borrow the book again, it being quite a few years old. I do very much like this Tatra, even if it is a modern casting and I paid too much for it. Still think this is my favourite 1/43, though my Gama VW411 and Schuco E12 5 Series are close runners-up. Datsuncog
That Tatra is fantastic, Jon! I doubt I'd have been able to exercise much restraint in its presence either... Those Volga estates are stunners too - I've the cheapo DeAgostini partwork versions of the ambulance and Aeroflot service vehicle, but your originals with opening everything are much nicer. Must bring down all my CCCP stuff next time I'm in the attic... I think a change in the display cabinets is long overdue... Sudsprint
Jon
The Tatra is a De Agostini effort, so shouldn't be too difficult to track down, should anyone want a copy. 1 hour ago, Datsuncog said: That Tatra is fantastic, Jon! If any of those CCCP things are of the Novoexport variety, be sure to bring them down from your attic and send them to NZ, forthwith! It's the attention to detail that I like on the older castings so much - like the ambulance that only has 1 of its 2 rear passenger doors opening, as the non-opening one is the side the stretcher is on. So, a whole casting just for the ambulance model! Sudsprint and Datsuncog
