Split_Pin
Among others in a batch that I received in the post today was this Majorette Safrane. I think that Majorettes of the late 1980s - mid 1990s are particularly crude and chunky. Surprisingly this one also has no opening features. I can't think of another Majorette like this. I'm delighted with it of course! Burnside and eddyramrod

Burnside
I have a number of Corgi Escort's all as hatchbacks and a Matchbox cabriolet (all MK3). The other day I stumbled across a model collection on Google which contained a Corgi MK3 Escort cabriolet! I've never seen this model before. Has anyone else? Also I've never seen any MK4 Escorts (Corgi/Matchbox)?The only Corgi MK3 Escort Cabriolet I've seen myself was someone's own conversion online. The Corgi MK3 Escorts though was one of my favourites growing up. One of my oldest surviving toys is a Corgi Ford Escort. It's had a hard life, started off Navy Blue with the Duckhams Oil livery before I repainted it White as a kid. I used some sticky back paper sheets my Mum had to Facelift the front to look like a MK4 I'd seen in Auto Express Magazine including making bumpers from the same paper and colouring them in black pen to make it look base! Sadly no pics but it got repainted again in Red with Black Gaffa Tape for a Vinyl Roof. I had another go at it about 10 years ago after finding it again. This time I tried to do it some justice and add some details. Pictures flatter it as I brush painted it but I'm pretty happy to have it looking half decent again. The only MK4 Escort I'm aware of prior to a modern release by Neo of a Mk4 was this el cheapo one I had as a kid from the early 90's. It about 1:43 scale unbranded pull back. Motor is toast and lost a door mirror but still rolls along and has opening doors and boot. I really love Majorettes dedication to the everyday chod and I thought the 406 is a pretty decent effort myself with the added sliding sunroof, towbar and turning front wheels. The later released Majorette 406's had some slightly pimp wheels added which I'm not so keen on. Pic lifted from web as my Majorette stashed in the loft. I have one the same and another in Metallic Red. The more recent Majorettes that spring to mind with no opening features are the Peugeot 407 and the Ford KA too. Early Renault 5 and the Fiat 127 doesn't either but the R5 had open front windows and the 127 has a dog in the back with a open window and a towbar. Renault 4 Van hasn't any opening features or open windows. I have far too much time on my hands! Datsuncog, MarvinsMom and RayMK

155V6
Pretty sure the Majorette Fiat 127 had opening doors,I'll check when I get home. The early VW Beetle had an opening front bonnet, but it was cast shut on later versions.Peugeot 405,Capri Mk 2,Plymouth Police car, none of those had anything that opened. bramz7
I remember the Ferrari 456 had nothing opening either. I've found myself really wanting some older NZG/Conrad/Joal/Tekno models in the past few days. They cost ££ though...

I know some Maisto 'light and sound' Escort Cabrios appeared with the Corgi name on the baseplate, for reasons I'm still unclear about. I did have one, but it's since been rehomed - it looked like this (no.7): In addition to those already mentioned, the Majorette Renault Twingo Mk1 had no opening features, nor did the Renault 18, the Citroen C4, the Morgan Plus 4 or the Renault J4 (though it did come with funky removable surfboards). I'm going to be mulling that one over for the rest of the day now... Burnside

Conrad D. Conelrad
My favourite thing from last week's toy fair - this Corgi Rolls Royce. The vendor had a few for £1 each, and I took this one because it still had the Spirit of Ecstasy and was undamaged except for the ruined paint. It also contained a dead woodlouse and a dead spider. Junkman said "don't paint it Champagne" but he failed to take into account that I had a full can of champagne paint and it is my only metallic. So I painted it Champagne. Brushed liquid chrome did a beautiful job on the brightwork. Haven't decided what to do with the wheels, they don't come apart and I'll ruin the tyres if I try to brush paint them. It was second-hand, so one or two bits were missing (the crane and the barrier), but it's definitely the same garage - the printed wobbly-plastic front is still a vivid memory, as is the hand-cranked lift. Sadly, I seem to recall mine came to a sticky end when I attempted to use it as a step to reach something on a high shelf... it's not very rigid. I know that now. But what a find! I doubt there are many of these left intact, and that one's a beauty. Thanks for sharing! Junkman, Volksy, bigstraight6 and 4 others
