You could butcher a Corgi H series back to a C series!😄

I wonder if anyone ever has?

I had a big tipper truck version of the C series back as a kid in the early 1970s.  Similar size to a big Tonka truck. It was pale green & real heavy steel. Not sure who made it.

I found this big unbranded C-Series at the market in Belfast nearly 5 years ago:

Articulated cab, rather than a tipper body - and also diecast rather than pressed steel - so maybe it's nothing like the one you had, but a handsome big beast nonetheless!

Hmm... went off to have a look...

Well, there seems to be just the one Matchbox Ford LTD back here and luckily it is in quite tidy condition ...and in a livery that didn't make that photoshoot!  Think it might deserve a dab from the paint pen over those little chips, then

20241213_005358753_iOS.jpg.fef99a138ba89868f08c5e8870b7f576.jpg

Looked for a Matchbox Plymouth Gran Fury too, but didn't find.  Did find however two examples of Chevrolet Caprice to go on a 'ride-along':  a Majorette and a Novacar.

Then the Majorette had to go and spoil it by showing off its OPENING THINGS

20241213_002019147_iOS.jpg.b9d584f75b1fcbba88c595f70f365c3e.jpg

It will have to do, shan't be getting hold of any more LTD.   Not unless a 1997 Premiere Collection World Class series example turns up cheap, I suppose...

That's cool. It's not what I had though mine had separate plastic headlights with a sort of chrome bezel/ mount ( got a feeling it had twin headlights too for some reason). Could be imagining the twin headlights though - it is 50 years ago !

Most likely the Louis Marx as they made them at the Swansea factory.  Does it look familiar?

Otherwise the Nylint, but less likely as these were made in USA

Hurrah another impulse purchase! I've got a huge collection of model Landrovers (as surely everyone on here is aware) but I've always got room for more. These two are made by Mini GT who I think are a Hong Kong based company and are officially licenced.

They are true scale 1/64 rather than the fits in the box metric used by most of the toy car makers. Amazing finish and detail for such small models, with accurate mirrors. I was slightly intrigued by the orange lower hinges on the white pickup, they usually rust and it bleeds down the side of the hinge so perhaps they were trying to replicate that. Interestingly they have got the pickup bed wrong, they have full length wheel arches not the bulges over the wheel itself (only the 109/110 Hi capacity pickup has that). Britains got that wrong with their 1/32 model of the same vehicle so perhaps they were working from that rather a full size prototype.

What I really like is the use of the proper paint and side decals schemes for these vehicles. The white one is a launch model Defender from about 1990-92 with the Defender 90 side decals, and black painted bumper. The blue one is a 1984-86 Landrover 90 V8 County with the unpainted bumper.

I'd really like the Camel Trophy and Martini racing ones as well.

They're exactly half the scale of Britains but as I mentioned in my edited post I think they may have based their model on the Britains one (hence the identical error with the rear pickup bed).

You didn't see it because I hadn't written it, so in fact you asked the question before I answered it (I usually just dump my pix off the phone then write the text later).😁

I got them both from Brushwood Toys who are a rather sweet company that sell their own brand of farm playsets, associated farm toys and models. They're reasonably priced and cheap postage, plus they seem like genuine enthusiasts and not just another online sales outlet.

Ah, well, no problem thanks anyway, matey.

A few last Norev’s I grabbed - Peugeot 404 and a Renault 5 Turbo 2. The 404 is quite delicate but again looks bland in white, or maybe just to glossy? Silver or beige might be the ticket.

Here’s the €5 winner though. Fabulous detailing and tampo prints, and the underside is fully detailed to boot!

Norev and Solido do generally hit that sweet spot between toy and model for me, where they're detailed and realistic enough to satisfy the collector, but don't have too much fiddly detail that makes them easy to break and no fun to play with.

Both very odd choices for a child's toy now I think about it, why Lesney didn't make a larger version of the VW Camper I don't know, the orange pop top is clearly a scaled up version of the one fitted to the Superfast.

Of course I already have both of these, but the Minissima especially is better than the current examples - expect to see the others on my diecast sales thread at some point!

I had the Holmes Wrecker as a kid but it was a heap of shit with missing parts, most crucially of which was an ugly glued on boom from a Britain's Unimog.

I now have a lovely Transporter I got from @danthecapriman which keeps my similarly nice Scammell transporter company, which I think came from the same source. Both are cracking display models.

Good choice on the 404/R5 duo, I picked up the same pair in 2011:

Norev Renault 5 Turbo and Peugeot 404 diecasts

I have seen a 1:1 404 in a similar colour (and very nice it was too).

Those Corgi Major trucks were fantastic, they’d have been pretty bloody dear when they were new I guess. I’ve a Ford Transcontinental, lovely bit of kit!

@sierraman Pretty sure that Transcontinental came from me too didn’t it!?😄 Is it the white car transporter one?

The Corgi Major stuff was absolutely brilliant. The earlier ones had more features which seemed to get reduced over the years as they tried to cut costs but even so, they were/are fantastic toys.
That Ford H really does have some superb details and features though being an earlier offering like the tilt cab, engine and even a rotating fan!
I’ve said it before, but I can imagine to unwrap one of those for Xmas back in the day must have been incredible. What a toy to get!

Posted

I did get to unwrap one!  I had the H cab with the sliding-sides trailer (Express Service).  I couldn't believe it.  Of course that original is long gone, but I do now have two of the same rig, one on each type of wheels.  Later on I had the Mack unit with the recoloured version of the same trailer; also long gone now.

I did quite well for toy cars at Christmas and birthdays really.  Being born in 1959 was a stroke of luck!

I’ve got the Mack version here somewhere. It’s orange but the trailer is the same as you say.

Anyone know how much they cost new? It’d be interesting to convert that price to what it’d cost now. I bet it’d not be a particularly cheap toy…

After the excitement of Mattchbox doing a Mk2 Fezza XR2, it seems Corgi are getting on with theirs at last, with the release of the CAD images and a showing of the prototype in the new year.  Hopefully they should get it out for  next year, and its nice to see that there are possible standard versions mooted as well. A white 1.4 S like my old one would be mega!
