Shite of SW London and beyond

Recommended Posts

A fruitful recent crop.

1. Saab 900 vert on a building site. Still a lot around but this one isn't going anywhere soon.

2. Fairly nondescript MGB.

3. 406 Coupe - forgotten just how pretty these are. Now getting thin on the ground.

4. Brilliantly battered Honda in one of the smartest bits of Chelsea, sharing a street with Bentleys, Ferraris and the like. Won't be surprised if this is an one-owner car.

5. 323 - not something I'd have photographed a few years ago.

6. Non-scene Mini in Wandsworth.

7. Rolls Royce Camargue !!!!!!!!!!!! One of my all time favourite spots. Corniches are ten a penny compared to this. Shite colour scheme too.

8. The 205 is still reasonably thick on the ground but I enjoyed this colour scheme.

9. Sad Dyane looks to have been sitting in this SW18 street for a very long time.

10. Incredible patina on this SL, with some 70s-tastic gold paint seeping through.

Thanks! A few more from today. Shite was out in force.

1. Sptifire under a disintegrating tarp

2. Sunbeam Alpine out for a spin

3. Goodish B, on a fruitful street

4. 164 - getting really rare now. Behind it was an ...

5, 6. Unbelievably knackered MG, true shite, this.

7. Late and top-spec Favorit

8, 9, 10. Unloved B-reg Landy and C-reg Moggy. Judging by the parking they've got the same owner - not moved for a long time, though.

Fantastic spots! That poor dyane looks sorry for itself. That Camarge is probably one of the taste bypass mega chintzy run out editions

Posted

Agreed, top spots! That dyane looks like an early one with upturned handles, right hand drive too so a very rare beast!

Posted

Final batch from yesterday.

1. XJ-S clinging onto life - was on flat tyres last time I saw it. Bonus N-reg Felicia in the background.

2. Insanely clean Civic - one of the first of that generation.

3,4,5 - We've had this before in various stages of dilapidation. I find it hard to believe that this isn't someone's willful attempt to irritate the neighbours.

6,7 - Seen this driving around a few times but never got a chance to snap it. One of the captures of the year. House behind it is similarly sheddy.

That Volvo is absolutely incredible! I've seen photos of it before but it's always worth another shot. If I lived in London I'd probably run something similar myself.

Love that 244 with the power-assisted bumpers. Not seen one for ages.

Posted

I WANT that green 244. It's that bad that I bet his wife and kids are ashamed to get in it.

From April. Not all from London - the first six are all in Wallasey, on the Wirral: kudos to the owner who is clearly some sort of masochistic hero. No apologies for including a MGB - it was gloriously shed-like. The Minor van (though it looks OK in the photo) was also falling apart - big fan of the inappropriate wing mirror.

Way too long since this was updated.

The gold 900 - enthusiast owned - and the Fiesta were in Liverpool and the Mitsubishi is usually at Park Garage just across the water. The rest are back in SW London and are the usual mixture of cherished classics, and "I don't give a damn what I drive" tat.

Ten more, from a fruitful wonder round Putney.

1, 2 - Fiat 850 van. Owners very chuffed by being photographed.

3 - The sublime and the ridiculous from 1988

4 - PRAIRIE!!! Genuinely years since I saw one of those.

5, 6 - Crusty S3 XJ had been sitting there for years

7 - Very shabby Moggie

8, 9, 10 - Spot of the day. Clearly a well loved car once but everything about this Sunbeam-Talbot was falling apart. It really was more like something out of Cuba.

Ten More:

1. Clearly a lover of British cars

2. Riley of some sort? Looked as if it had ben neglected recently

3. Uber clean P5

4. Clean northern Cortina

5. Scabby northern Mini

6.This Dutch Rolls was putting a creditable turn of speed on the M6

7. Wonderful Volvo in Greenwich - looked like 1987called.

8,9. This Volvo was a real blast from the past

10. Clearly someone's project. Looked dreadful.

Cripes. A long time since I've updated this. Nevertheless some decent old snotters have been seen spotted out and about.

1. Posh shite, this: 1928 Frazer Nash.

2. Unbelievable "patina" on this old Austin

3. A trip to north Wales discovered this

4. Fulham Reliant is a long way from Germany

5. P6 in Belgravia

6. Incredibly crusty VW in Hampstead

7. Old school Mini

8. Very smart MB - wouldn't surprise me if this was on the original owner

9. The famous Manta of Earls Court is still going strong

10. This very clean Merc was sporting German plates until very recently.

Finally, a couple of spots which got me VERY HOT UNER THE COLLAR.

1. Old Merc in great condition

2. Very early Mini

3. Same

4. Autobianchi of some sort

5. Whatever it is, it was awesome

6. Wonderfully knackered Karmann Ghia - who needs rat look?

7. Ditto. See this around Eaton Square quite often.

8. Sport of the century. Everything about this GS is perfect. It's a genuine working van. Brilliantly the owner doesn't seem to think this is anything special....

Shit a brick, that GS commerciale (or whatever they're called) looks like it's right hand drive as well.  Did they do them here, or do we reckon it's a conversion (either to van or to RHD)?

I papped a red Autobianchi of the same model in Berkeley Square a few years back.  Buggered if I could find the photo afterwards though.  Spooky.  Pretty cars.

A diversion, this, from Southwest London: Southwest France.

Contrary to popular belief, it's still tat heavy. Lots of stuff I missed, including two Peugeot 104s still in daily use. 405s and 205s are still a normal sight, as are Cinqs (not the M 1s though). The peasant van of choice is still the C15, I even saw two J5s on the way to the market, and 309s / R19s are not a rare sight.

1. 2CV - one of quite a few still around

2. First yellow headlight spot went down well

3. The Twingo is everywhere. Nice to see several generations of Renault

4. This Capri was magnificently battered

5. Dyane, daily driver by the looks of it

6. Standard street shot

7. Nice unmolested Golf

8. Magnificent and clean Espace: looked like a one owner car

9. A much more battered example in Bayonne

Black plates, yellow headlights - Gallic faites a la proper....Love the Crapi with no dummy vents too.

More tat. I think this was quite a conservative area of rural France: lots of berets, pissed locals and people keeping on to stuff for years. I'm off to the other side (Nice - St Tropez region) net month and I imagine the spotting there will be much weaker.

1. Either a Jeep or the Hotchkiss version

2. Double spot. One of two small Lancias spotted. These were so unusual ten years ago that I papped one then...

3. Very happy to see this CX estate...

4. ... and then, in quick succession, this magnificent early CX.

5. You can see the white estate in the background - just. This was a market day - other highlights (unpapped) were a Belmont and two Peugeot J5s.

6. Next to it was a BX - these are quite thin on the ground noe

7. 403 rotting away, one of two seen

8. Very tatty Parisian-plated Nissan

9. Renault 21. These were quite common but this was nicely battered

10. Another 2CV plus a bonus BX in the background

Love the Cxs, haven't seen one on the road in France for years and you spot two in the same day. Well done sir.

Saw a third CX in fact - but failed to snap it.

Now we come to THE HOLY GRAIL: The Citroen Axel.

Behind it even the LN and the multiple AXs in the yard seem dull.

Like the Alfa / Suzuki combo in photo 5.

Or the mystery green van (Talbot? Fiat?) parked up by the beach north of Hossegor.

I can't imagine how obscure this is, but a quick check on leboncoin.fr suggests Tagora levels of rarity, coupled with a desirability roughly equivalent to a dose of the clap.
