Felly Magic
Having driven a brand new Cheetah breadvan, well, it handled like the General Belgrano, and was built with all the quality of a 1982 Lada. Hateful!
Joseph
Well, it IS a Plaxton! Has anybody mentioned these yet? I don't think they really count as 'shite'. Certainly seem to be go like the proverbial...
mk2_craig
We're getting four of those but based on the Fiat Ducato in January. And 33 Optare Solos which despite myriad issues over the 15 year production run seem to be insanely popular as secondhand buys.

Certainly seem to be go like the proverbial... Front wheel drive does not work in a service bus. It didn't work for the CVE Omni (Land Rover n/a diesel, yo!), the Talbot Pullman/Freeway... the Fiat Ducato based ones actually seem pretty hardy, but then they are more a heavyweight van than the VW Transporters which apparantly like lunching gearboxes. catsinthewelder
Those T5 based buses do look rather crap when compaired to these Crafter based efforts that we've got on our local dail a ride type thing, A big thumbs up to the driver of one of them who gave me a lift home after spotting me dragging my broken bicycle home the other week

The Ducato based one aparantly has some sort of Iveco engine in it 'cos all the Fiat ones are pants. Aye, 'cos Iveco aren't*. They also like nomming clutches. Aparantly the ZF tip tronic in them is ALWAYS on the bite when stopped so the drivers (at Henderson at least) are instructed to use neutral when stopped. Even at the lights. That's useful to know, ours are the two-pedal 'automated manual' version which I presume is what you're referring to. 3 litre motor as well, which in theory should be ample. Felly Magic
I used to drive every now and again a Renner Master with the tiptronic box, and it would light up the tyres in 3rd gear in the wet. In auto mode when it was raining, the gearbox would go bat shit crazy when trying to pull away.

Felly Magic
Nope it was a panel van converted by some firm in Wales. Taw I think they were called. They converted the passenger door to plug type, and it was powered and always going wrong This is it. Hateful thing. Not my photo though. Joseph
I like the Leyland National - Essbee of Coatbridge used to run several, all in dark red. Your photograph of this one, without the rear air duct, looks somewhat odd: Leyland Nationals need their Essex-esque rear spoiler!
Felly Magic
Joseph, that is a Leyland C27, which was a National underframe with an ECW body. It was never fully completed as a bus, and was sold by Leyland in 1981 to become a camper. Recently, it had come into the hands of bus dealer & National fan Mike Nash of Surrey. It's a weird one too as has a ZF 2 speed gearbox.
quicksilver
Is that C27 what developed into the B21 which was effectively a National underframe? They were supposed to be for export only but most ended up in Ipswich and a firm in Aylesbury later ran this one on school work.Taylor made for export by quicksilver coaches, on Flickr
