I must say after a few rounds on the Bromley Heritage Running Days driving an RT, I do appreciate the quiet and smooth journey home. The move to rear engine most certainly improved the Driver's lot! Also the Gearbox was set to Economy so was quite sluggish. I've driven a couple of comparitively rare Gemini 3 B5TL buses too. Quite nippy for a Double Decker with a 5.1L Engine. Not reliable though. One needed a new Engine within months of arrival. Also, the bodywork feels extremely flimsy. Everything feel as though its as lightweight as possible; even the window glass is noticeably thinner. The Upper Deck Windows are like letterboxes and the whole thing reminds me of the first MCW Bodied Leyland Atlanteans, actually... Interesting you mention the poor quality of MCV Bodies. I've some stories, but I need to get something to eat now... The ex London ones that were bought in 2011-2 less so, they had a hard life before we bought them and were fucking fucked m8. We also have some MCV saloons with B7 and B8 chassis, the windows in those especially the B8s flex that much it makes you think they will fall out. The Omnidekka was numerically the first of it's type in London and possibly in the UK. These prototypes had a long dashboard and they were a bit of an ergonomic nightmare. The production versions had a normal short dashboard; the driving position was closer to the front. The Enviro 200 shots show an extremely rare MAN 14.220* and an ex Arriva Southern Counties Common or Garden Enviro 200 Dart** on fuel consumption trials. The reason for choosing MAN and Scania was that they did not need Adblue. Cheaper, innit. Time proved this to be an unwise decision. The MAN was joined that year by some MCV bodied examples. They didn't make ten years in service. Lively- when they were not in the workshop... Apologies about crap quality, CBA to spend hours improving them. Metro Cammell bodied Titans were the general order of the day there, but there's plenty of chod to spot. NSU Prinz; Taxi home in a Ford Corsair, breath in, Marshall bodied AEC Swifts were a surprise order for a former all Leyland operator, (in the days when spottie yooffs were allowed to wander around depots with just a "don't fall down the pits and let us know when you've finished" bit of H&S advice), the tram engineers had these, and the "Illuminations Department" this. They were meant to have gone last year but because Covid struck it has been put back. 714 was numerically the first bus delivered after I started in 2007 and was also the last to be painted in burgundy and cream. The red and blue coaches (and possibly the shy one peeping around the middle coach) with the triangular motif on the front are LAZ-695M's produced by the Lviv Bus Factory, Lviv, Ukraine. The middle one is a Zil-158 which was the main bus model for city bus fleets of the Soviet Union in the 1960s and early 1970s. More than 62,350 were built. The shot above is taken from where the ADO16 is parked below, behind the Imp and Anglia. This is a 1953 Bristol LS with ECW body that was withdrawn in November 1970, which obviously dates when I took this to early 1970 or late 1969. A visit in 1972 saw these new RE's in service, parked where the right hand Plaxton Leopard is in the pic Martc posted. In the same parking position, but on the earlier visit, the two previous designs of ECW bodied REs. If I had held the camera better, LD, LS and RE A couple of VR pictures, a new VR46 and post renumbering 1911. This ended up being converted to open top and being used on London sightseeing tours by Cityrama. An FS6B (Bristol's own engine), I think this ended up in Canada. Finally, when I started taking bus pictures, cameras didn't automatically wind on the film or cock the shutter for you, so when you forgot, you ended up with shots like this.
