VW did a vomit coloured/peachy colour during the 90s truly vile. There's a Polo in this colour local to me which always makes me gag.

Cars I don't particularly like:

Astra mk. 3 dull dull dull

Escort mk. 5 what was the point?

I'm pretty much a sucker for all other shite...it's a British thing, we do love an underdog you know.

Reliant Robins.

Because the Fenlands are full of them, driven by cap-donning old gits who wont go more than 34mph in whatever speed limit it is. Then, give you a waving fist when you decide to maybe go by at 45-50mph in a NSL...

Ive been keeping a look out for the Diesel Suburban but they aren't common around here - the engine is based on the GM petrol V8 and isn't as durable as the Cummins 6BT, Ive gotten used to the size of cars here now, the Cherokee now seems small and my old Toyota seems tiny!

I had a 6.5TD Suburban for a short while. It was, I thought, pointlessly big to be honest and it was sort of hard to drive because of that and it being LHD, though obviously that won't be a problem for you.

The way it went into four wheel drive was stupid, you sort of had to ram the lever home and it always felt like it was going to break. Interior was typical 'American of that era' with the basic dash layout, massive space and the almost Toyota Estima/Previa seats.

MPG was low twenties around town, dropping to about 18-ish iirc.

I'd quite like an early 1960's Beetle, providing it didn't have a Empi wheels and all the other shit that got stuck to them. There's one down the road from me that's completely standard and it looks superb.

A Polo exclusive colour, 'Apricot' LD2A, totally like it! But I like 'Saturn-metallic' as well, if that counts...

  • 7 years later...

Renault laguna, just a rubbish Mondeo and unreliable to boot, mk2 even worse, key card nonsense, injector woes, stupid electrical faults, awful things and depreciated faster than a big Toyota in the 90's.

Mk3 golf gti because it was so shit compared to the earlier ones, build and performance were appalling.

BMW 1 series are hateful, tiny cockpit as well.

I used to hate primeras but they've stood the test of time quite well.

Probably loads more.

Mgb certainly a contender.

AND also from a drivers stereotype* of perspective, plus my coastal location and the amount of the fucking things everywhere, VW T4/5/6.

I'm not a massive fan of the vans as they do a job I suppose but they're not much of a "van" really, no, more it's the type of person that drives them in my area, usually :

-yummy mummy thinking it's fast because it's a "TDI" hence if she's a bit late for school, drives at 1mm from your bumper desperately trying to overtake but can't because it's a bit too big for her really. But if she's got the 4 kids of varying ages in it, drives at 22mph slamming on everywhere.

-young blood "surf dude" type that MUST get it lowered on day one, but thinks the tyres are everlasting. Usually seen broken down as he's ran out of fuel.

-the "let's buy a van to spend amazing * family fun days away in" types who really are they only ones having fun*, usually 2 depressed teenagers in the back and one who drew the short straw up front. Seem to be broken down a lot as they've sacrificed everything to buy the van on finance and can't really afford to keep on top of the constant issues VAG stuff often brings as it gets older. Please note that generally applies to t5/5.1 owners, T4 ones seen a bit more savvy at keeping them going as they've endured 10 years of occasional breakdowns already so have a rough idea of what to do.

-the company van types ( could be any van really but these seem particularly apt) who drive everywhere texting or reading Facebook then get on the motorway driving up your arse at 100mph, next seen back to 50mph in the middle lane while texting again, then zoom pay you at 100mph (repeat cycle for journey length).
