Shite Pickups

Pickups are great. A lot of modern ones are chrome covered, have leather seats and are driven by tax dodgers. This wasn't always the case.

These FSO ones look great I don't ever remember seeing any.

I always thought they sold a Polonez pickup here but did they?

Tata Load Betas are so great they named it after a defunct video format. This very one was on sale on gumtree for £350 last month. I should have bought it for horrifying the wife but this chancers got it and now selling it for £850. Any idea what kind of engines in these? I imagine it's based on some 1970's boat engine.

My favourite is the Hyundai Pony pickup. There was a guy who lived near me when I was a kid had a red one with tilt sunroof and steel spoked alloys. It was a serious weapon and I lusted after it right up until I discovered it a few years later in the local scrappies. I imagine they're now pretty close to extinction

Not quite as shite but have an undieing love for the Cortina P100. I'd have diesel Sierra one but there's something appealling about trying to drag a ton of gravel using 1.6 pinto powa.

The first two were deffo sold here, my mate had one like the first pic of the white one ( his was in red) and he sold it in tip top condition for £250 back in the mid 90s. That green one is very rare now but there is a blue P plate one ( IIRC) still working for a living round here. its VERY tatty but still going.

I seem to recall that the Tata Loadbeta had some sort of Mercedes cast-off n/a diesel engine.

I saw this one in Plockton.

I found this 125p down the road from a former FSO dealer in rural Aberdeenshire.

The Corsa pick-up isn't sold here, this one was in Chile.

Fiat Fiorano anyone?

Not the kind of car that's usually named after Ferrari's test track.

Fiat also make the Strada pickup for chrome-plated tax dodgers.

This isn't car based like the others but its not in the best of shape either.

Seen by the side of the road in Northern California.

And I loved this.

I really like the 505 pickup. They sold them into the 90's I seem to remember. The tata was on Glasgow gumtree. I fancied it but didn't have anywhere to keep it.

Zillions of them in Tunisia, probably totally covering North Africa. What i did notice out there was that there seemed to be a lot of those Bedford/Isuzu pick ups on the scene ( the ones the AA used to uses with roller shutter sides) I take it, if they can survive out there they must be rock!

British built 2CV pick-up. Quite a few were sold to the Royal Navy.

I remember seeing loads of the FSO pick-ups about. Don't recall us getting the Polonez in pick-up form, but the later Caro definitely was.

I always liked the Daihatsu Midget. GR8 IF UV NO FRENDS!

These always look like they're about to trip over their front bumper.

Have one of Trigger's spots. Reliant Ant. I saw a brown one around here a few months back. I almost crashed! Inspiration for the Vauxhall Vivaro... (the Ant, not my poor driving)
