I’ve been considering making a topic for progress with my Felicia for a little while, I want to reflect on what’s been done in a more organised fashion compared to flicking through photos on my phone. I’ve had a keen interest on older generation Skoda for quite some time (100series-Facelift Felicia), I bought this 1999 T reg Skoda Felicia mid April. Would of loved to buy the pre-facelift model but sadly most seem to have been scrapped, however mine does come with the 1.3 OHC engine -the same used in Rapid 136’s, albeit slightly modernised and with Bosch fuel injection producing a whopping 67bhp. First pic after a wash. Missing headlight trim, dinged rear OS door, NS fender is a bit bashed in as the original owner must of had a bit of a bash, the whole bumper sits a little lopsided. Hopefully can get the bodywork pulled at some point. This is my first car that I’ve bought with my own money, so naturally wanted to put in the effort to get her running smoothly with some maintenance: new oil & filter, air filter, coolant flush, wipers, bulbs, spark plugs, valve cover gasket etc. Engine bay needed multiple washes to clean up, looked a right bombsite when I bought it, some neglect was evident from past owner! Three and a half months later and my Felly is now road legal (due to issues with DVLA and V62), what a jolly little car to drive though! The exhaust blows like a wet fart when you press the accelerator but it’s very comical. (Obviously will fix this when I’ve the money, haha.) Driving around aimlessly I’ve covered around 160 miles in a couple of days. I decided to drain the gearbox and refreshed it with some 75W90 SS Gl4, after a few embarrasing car park CRUNCHES into reverse gear enough was enough, definitely was well overdue a change and now it’s silky smooth. Blue Lagoon Metallic is the colour for anyone wondering. (Removed the faded Skoda badge and sprayed the 3D Favorit badge and grill black - perhaps not to everyone’s taste but it’s my car 😄) Next to do is fit new brake discs & yellowstuff pads which have been sat in the boot for a couple months, need to file the edge of the pads down a tad and find a way to remove the locking pin screw from the disc- I can’t seem to get them to turn using an impact screwdriver but perhaps I just need to hit harder! The goal is to fit a few unnecessary modifications, just some stiffer lowering springs and alloy wheels with good tyres. Nothing too crazy. The ride is pretty good, very little body roll, the strut brace seems to work well. A very throwable and responsive supermini, town and rural road driving is an awful lot of fun. If anyone has some Favorit "Skoda" mudflaps let me know as I really would like to replace the ones that are fitted! Updates to come. All welcome to share thoughts and stories alike 🙂

  3. I think we can all agree that lockdown was a difficult time for many. With less actual work to do I had more time to take stock off just how many projects I have ongoing, realistically i don't have time to progress all of them as much as is needed - Red Rebel, Scimitar SS1, Capri, Boat, etc etc. Thinking about that was a bit depressing so instead I bought a small aluminium bodied electric car with a rotten steel space frame chassis and £1200 of missing batteries to add to the project queue!   6. Hi all, I’m going to try to keep this updated as a diary of work done on my old Fourtrak. I bought this a few years ago but have only recently got going on it properly, with several other projects on the go, times been scarce. Ill start with the main job, the rear crossmember. When I bought the truck this tube had snapped on the drivers side. This ruptured the brake pipes, and ruined all the already tired suspension bushes. So, out with the crossmember... The original is round tube, the new 3mm wall box section, it actually holds the anti tramp bars. Yes the Fourtrak has a 5 linked rear suspension, and an LSD. Because race car! I didn’t take many pics at this time, so I’m trying to improve this and maybe a thread will motivate me to document it.

  8. Thought I would start a project thread really to kill two birds with one stone. Picked up this mk3 estate, FSH which is mostly main dealer, thousands of pounds of receipts (for mad stuff like £450 services) and generally just a bit grotty. It’s had 14 hours welding somehow in 2018 and I can only see that both sills have been replaced, the front jacking points, and it’s had a blow over from the bottom six inches that’s actually a pretty good colour match. The engine seems very good, evidence of a timing belt change but nothing for the clutch. After a bloody good clean and a good poke with a hammer I have found only one glaring issue That’s the boot floor. Not so bad really and that hole is all the crappy metal pulled away. Seems water has crept in from under the sealant underneath. Now this thing isn’t within a foot of any seatbelt anchorages nor body parts that matter - maybe. I’d say it’s about nine inches from the petrol tank straps. So what’s the crack with the MOT? Is this the start of another weldathon or a case of giving it a bloody good fibreglassing? It’s quite close to the tank so I’m a little twitchy about welding it if I don’t need to - and I really don’t want to get into dropping the tank and stuff. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Thought I'd document my campervan refurbishment on here. I trust this is of interest to shitters, but please tell me if not! I purchased this van in 2016 and its sat about around my house since then. As usual, I have too many projects and not enough time to work on them. Anyways, with the old virus thing about, I've managed to clear some of the backlog and got this one to the front of the queue. As holidays look to be in doubt this year, I'm aiming to get this mobile for a family holiday around August some time. Immediate plans are to refurb the underside and give it a good clean and paint underneath. I'll then take it for an MOT and then see what I can manage on it internally and externally, before we need to go away in it. Onto the beast in question then. I paid £4000 for this with an MOT, from a chap not 20 miles down the road in Rugby. I've only literally driven it back from there to my house (not counting driveway shifting about). I wanted a campervan for touring about. I'd say with the family, but my two kids are now 18 and 15, with 18 year old happily driving her own car. Best laid plans and all that...... This van struck a chord with me as it is bigger than your average VW bay window van, but still small enough to fit in a normal parking bay. Plenty of room inside and complete with a toilet! One double bed in the roof and one double bed below. If you are ambitious, you can also fit a hammock across the front seats (although it didn't come with one of those). This is the floorpan: This is how it turned up (and still looks like at present): Its LHD (all the LT westfalia vans are). 2.4 turbo diesel. Five speed gearbox with the engine thrumming away between the front seats. Initial impressions from driving it were "Fuck 'me, this is wide...... how do I change gear with my right hand....... the suspension is too bouncy..........the brakes are shit....."

Hullo all a bit of a follow on from the collection thread - https://autoshite.com/topic/40575-attempting-to-collect-schrodingers-two-wheeler/ I am aware this has two wheels less than the preferred version of shite here but this bike definitely qualifies as Shite. So here's my 'new' '95 XJ600S/N. As a Motorcycle obsessed adult I have recently decided it is time to get myself a 'big bike' and stop running around on Chinese hairdryers with the same sized engine as my dad's lawnmower. So me and @stereotypewent to collect the bike after a bit of a viewing in what would be considered a sketchy part of town. The bike had been used as a 'field bike' (no fields nearby) and had no ignition barrel which honestly amazed me the bike was still there as no keys required (aware this is a red flag right there but did confirm as not stolen before purchase). After speaking to the owner on the phone it seems the bike had been purchased to ride about with his son as the son had a dirtbike but the owner wasn't a fan of 2 wheels and had no intention of getting it back on the road. The asking price was £350 which for a 600cc motorbike would barely get you an engine and a frame these days. So after looking at the bike, totting up the parts required to get this through an MOT and road ready (these can be two different things sometimes), and haggling down to £280 I socially distance shook hands and pushed the bike home with @stereotype's help on the hills. Now if I was a more sensible person then I likely wouldn't have purchased this bike, but as my Dad said -A bargain but alot of work, just how I like it-. I'm no stranger to swinging a spanner but the list of jobs is quite long, though more on that later. For now here's some pictures as bought. Little tired pushing it up a hill Finally back home Trying to convince myself I love wiring on bikes (And failing) Pretending I can go broom broom choo choo So onto the nitty gritty of what is to come, here is the list of jobs that will be happening to the bike over the next however long (depending on variables such as other projects, work, money, life, cheesecake) Chain and sprockets need replaced - a job I would do with most 2nd hand Bikes Speedometer assembly fitted - Have recieved the unit from eBay but will need frame fabricated to mount All 3 locks replaced - Ditching the silly eBay non locking fuel filler and fitting Ignition barrel and replacing seat catch so can use same key for all 3 (too many keys in my life as is) Replace front fork seals and dust covers - Fork seals somewhere between seeping and gushing hydraulic fluid Rear shock - Super crusty and very soft, though unsure if that's a Divvy level of soft or a replace me level of soft Brake discs and Pads Front and Rear - Likely with stripped and cleaned calipers Plastics and Fairings - Plastics on the bike are a bit haggard and pretty sure this was once a fully faired Divvy so still deciding which direction to go (fully naked wasteland or fibreglass fairings) Full Service - including Valve clearances and carb clean/rebalance Fuel Tank + Petcock need a good clean Exhaust sorted - deciding whether to just replace right hand muffler or sploodge on a stainless 4-1 system to remove muffler from centre stand area Wiring - Wire in eBay Ignition barrel and reloom lighting circuit for indicators and front light unit (and tidying the mess seen in the above picture) Fit indicators all round Add some mirrors Either rebuild or replace both brake master cylinders New Clutch and Throttle cables Either align current headlight or fit replacement if adding fairing Both new tyres Add a rear grab handle and possibly a frame to hold luggage Also considering full strip, rust removal and repaint as is quite crusty in general. As I said before, long list, and any project always includes at least 10% more jobs than anticipated. Am I a muppet for buying this? Probably. Do I regret it? Not yet.
  12. For as long as I can remember I have been aware of a dead K-prefix Mondeo saloon languishing on the drive of a house about two streets away from here. It had obviously been sat there for many years without moving. I kept meaning to drop a note through the door enquiring about it, but as always I never got round to it. Until now. With Bob the Renault 6 currently on hold pending a possible sale after lockdown and the Maxi mothballed due to lack of places to take it to I was getting bored, so last Friday I did just that. Things moved on very rapidly from there. Timeline: Saturday morning. I received a phone call from the owner's daughter, who informed me that her father had owned the car since it was 18 months old and cherished it for years, doing about 2 or 3 thousand miles a year in it until 2013, when it failed the MoT: Date tested 17 September 2013 Fail Mileage 70,926 miles Reason(s) for failure Service brake: efficiency below requirements (3.7.B.7) Brakes imbalanced across an axle (3.7.B.5b) He was told by the local garage he used that it would cost about £1000 to fix even if they could get the parts, which they said was doubtful. How can inefficient and unbalanced rear brakes cost that much to fix? And can Mondeo parts be unobtainium already? Maybe I will find out in due course. Anyway, he decided that was more than the car was worth but, being very attached to it, he simply parked it on the drive and left it there. Apparently he died about 3 years ago but his wife couldn't bear to see it go, so there it stayed until now. Coincidentally his wife died a few weeks ago, so I hope my approach didn't seem like grave robbing. Their daughter was planning to have the car taken away for scrap, so I was intending to offer her scrap value for it and see if it could be saved. However, she was so pleased at the prospect of her dad's beloved motor being revived that, without me making an offer, she immediately offered it to me for the princely sum of zero pounds. She also agreed that quicksilver and myself could work on it where it sat until such time as we could move it. She said that she would endeavour to find the V5 and the keys. Timeline: Saturday afternoon. Checking the registration online showed it to be a 2.0i Ghia, built in Belgium in May 1993 and registered in the UK on 15th June 1993. K prefix registrations ran from August 1992 to July 1993 but the Mondeo was not launched in the UK until 22nd March 1993, so had been in production less than three months, making this a very early Mark 1. Has been on SORN since September 2013. Let's go and see what we have. It's walking distance so that counts as exercise doesn't it 😃. Didn't even know if it was a manual or an automatic. Turns out it's a 5-speed manual. Apart from flat tyres it doesn't look to bad from a distance. But what about the blind side next to the fence. Fortunately it had been parked far enough away to see it. Urgh! It's green instead of blue. Back of the roof has bloomed badly, but laquer doesn't appear to have peeled. We took a cordless tyre inflator so the first job was to attempt to pump the tyres up. We weren't very hopeful as it had been sitting here for 7 years. The two nearside tyres had 0psi in them, the offside front had about 7psi in it and the offside rear had about 12psi in it. They were all pumped up to a nominal 30psi and appeared to stay up. Timeline: Sunday afternoon. Let's take a bucket of soapy water round and give it a quick swill. Three tyres still up. Nearside rear flat again. 75% success rate. Not bad. Pumped the flat one back up again. Throw bucket of water over car and apply sponge and nylon brush. While washing it we noticed bubbles issuing from from a tiny pinhole in the bottom of the sidewall of the nearside rear tyre. That will be why it went flat again then. It looks like there may have been a thorn or a sharp piece of stone on the drive next to the bottom of the tyre and when it went completely flat the weight of the car pushed it through the sidewall. That's looking better. Not much more we can do without the keys as it's all locked up. Timeline: Monday morning. Another phone call from the daughter. She is at the house and has found the V5 and one key. Also handbook and service record. Thinks there may be another key somewhere. We wander round there and do the necessary paper work. It is now offically ours! Timeline: Monday afternoon. Send off new keeper slip and SORN declaration. This time we have to take the Zafira full of tools in an attempt to get it moving. It has been left with the handbrake on and the front discs look well rusty, so I bet the brakes have seized on. Takes 2 hands to lift the handbrake lever, then 2 hands to press the button and release the ratchet. Rock the car gently and, wonder of wonders, all four wheels appear to rotate. First hurdle overcome. Don't want to bore you guys but some of you might like to know our technique for attempting to revive a long-dead engine, honed at various Field of Dreams chod-tinkerings. Check oil and water levels. Oil looks pretty clean so probably serviced not long before it was laid up. Remove spark plugs. These all look in good condition. Pour a spoonful of engine oil into each cylinder just to give some extra bore lubrication on initial turn over. Engine compartment is so cramped that can't see an easy way to try and turn the engine with a spanner, so drop a long screwdriver into one of the spark plug holes so that it rests on top the piston, engage fourth gear and attempt to push the car down the drive, which fortunately has a reasonable downward slope. Watch the screwdriver and, sure enough, we see it rising. The engine isn't seized, thank goodness we don't have another Bob on our hands. Because the owner's other car was parked alongside we could not get the Zafira in to jump the battery so we connected up one of the two knackered old batteries we had brought round. Didn't want to risk connecting across a totally dead battery and shorting out the other one, so left the positive terminal connected to the original battery but disconnected the earth wires from the original battery and connected the negative jump lead to the isolated leads, thus removing the original battery from the system. Doing it this way ensures that the positive connections are still kept clear of any metalwork that could cause a short and the negative connection is earthed anyway, so doesn't matter if that touches any other metal. Turned on the ignition and, lo and behold, we have assorted dashboard warning lights. Hit the starter. Click. We were right, this battery is knackered. Try the other one. Whirr, whirr, the engine spins over. Let it spin until the oil pressure light goes out. Clean the plugs with a wire brush (not that they appeared to need it) and replace them. Reconnect the HT leads, making sure they are in the right order. Chug, chug, chug. Engine reluctantly turns over but not fast enough to fire. Remember we have a the tiny but powerful Chinese jump pack in the glove box of the Zafira, so this is deployed. Chug, chug, cough, splutter, BLOODY HELL IT'S ONLY RUNNING! Remove jump pack and it is still running on the alternator output. Leave it running while we check the condition of the spare wheel. Full size alloy, not one of these horrible space-saver things. Appears to have some air in it. Pump it up and fit it to the nearside rear. Try driving it up and down the drive to test the brakes. As we expected they were not great, but worked well enough to stop it eventually. Unfortunately the handbrake would also stop the car but the ratchet would not re-engage so having freed off the brakes it now insisted on rolling down the drive. So we took a deep breath and, leaving everything behind, we set off for home. No collection thread as the distance involved was about 500 yards, but target achieved with no problems, except for the power-assisted steering, which apparently now isn't. Have a cup of tea then walk back round to pile all the detritus back into the Zafira and drive it home. Gone. Mossy piece of tarmac blinking in the sunlight for the first time in 7 years. In its new home. Bob is not impressed by this non-French interloper and turns his back on it. Let's see what we have. Nicely mouldy steering wheel. Oh look, footwell lights. I say, how posh, did I mention it's a Ghia. Illuminated vanity mirrors. Can this get any posher? Optional giffer pack included. Lots of damp and mouldy boot trim now basking in the sunshine. So, what is the overall assessment. On cursory inspection it appears to have zero rot on the bodywork or the underside. Haven't tried everything yet. A few of the lights don't work (hopefully just bulbs or mouldy connections). Nor do the screenwashers. The two main problems seem to be the non-working power steering and the ABS warning light being on. But haven't had time for in-depth investigations yet, so here's hoping an MoT can be passed eventually. No rush, it is a lockdown project after all. By now I am sure you are all bored to death so I will stop rambling. Bloody hell these threads take a long time to compile. Stay tuned for more developments. Or not.
  13. Morning chaps, long time no see. I've not had much in the way of shite to share on this forum of late but I have now gone some way to redeeming myself with this glorious old heap, an eBay purchase which I won last night. Fortunately the seller seems decent and isn't in any rush for it to leave so there won't be much happening for a few weeks until collection can be arranged, leaves me plenty of time to clear the decks in preparation. The essential stats are that it's a 1977 Princess 1.8, I think it's a base model and a Series 1 given it's not got a 1.7/2.0 O-series engine which I would have preferred. Not sure how rubbish the B-Series is in this thing but I guess we'll see. It's got an MOT and has been woken from many years of slumber fairly recently, I think it was on eBay last year prior to the current owner obtaining it but I don't have any details. I think it's a base model and lacks power steering or indeed any equipment to speak of. It's apparently very solid and has been undersealed, there's some rot above the bootlid and in the doors and the bonnet looks awful but is mostly surface corrosion I think. It'll be getting a proper going over once I get my hands on it, a full service and brake refurb is likely the first port of call, plus finding someone local who can pump up the hydragas. My sole experience of these is driving Philibusmo's utterly ruined example (OKK if anyone remembers the ex-Vulgalour one) a few years back and I was so impressed at how well it drove considering the state it was in, I've wanted one for years so this is a slightly weird dream come true. Feel free to chip in with anecdotes, advice and mockery. More details will probably surface in a few weeks once it lands. It has MOT but it's on ancient tyres and has electrical issues (I know, who'd have thought?) meaning the lights and cooling fan don't work. Given that it's in Kent and I'm in Devon, I am probably going to take the easy way out and Shiply it home. Plenty of time yet to make some arrangements for that. Watch this space.

I did a buy on Monday, borrowed the trade plates from work and drove it home, So this is now my new project for the foreseeable future, I have been looking for an early W202 so quite happy with this popping up near me on Facebook marketplace, I only have this one picture so far as I have been kept busy at work trying to get customers cars out the door, What I know so far about this fine steed, Elegance spec automatic 106,000 miles 2.8 M104 straight Six What I know is needing doing for the next MOT so far, near side mirror glass broken, Rust hole in right hand sill, Oil leak from the front of the timing cover TADTS, central locking not working, I suspect a perished rubber vacuum hoses, I'm pretty sure there's going to be more but as I'm going to be home for the next I don't know how long (like many) I'm sure it will keep me busy
  15. This is my 924, Florian. He's old and tatty but during my stewardship I aim to tidy him up. I've had him a couple of years, he's my first classic car, rather than mundane old shite. Yes he is a classic, before you ask; he's on classic insurance. He's nearly tax and MOT exempt, two more years to go. And yes he's a Porsche. Some will say he's a VW built in the Audi factory using the Audi 2.0 and the transaxle and the VW Parts bin in general. Yes that's all true but he was designed by a man whose surname was Porsche and the has the word plastered Porsche all over him. The father of this man founded VW and designed the KDF Wagen, the car we know as the Beetle and the Porsche 911. In fact if you get an elephant to sit on the Beetle and swap it's engine to a 6 cylinder you get a 911. Let's brush over the Nazi origins of these cars and understand that you cannot separate VW and Porsche as companies. They have always faught over who owns who; VW won that game in the end though and now also want to rule the world. Back to my car.   17. Edit: This is longer than initially anticipated. As some will have noticed, Mr cms206 of this parish reckons the death knell for the SVM is close with his recent purchase of a Saab. Going with the fact I still have a 100% Volvo fleet, as does Mr rml2345 of this parish I would personally say it's just diversification. Especially considering the amount of non Volvos cms206 has had these days. This aforementioned diversification continues a pace. Although the paperwork still needs to be done, I have some non Volvo incoming. Background: My aunt got the above pictured 205 back in about 2002 and ran it for about 3 years. By her accounts she put it in the lockup, got a Nissan Almera for whatever reason and basically put the 205 in to the long term deal with pile. It was initially SORN on the blue log book. Back when there was a theft of blue V5s at Swansea and everyone in the country got sent one of the new red ones, one never arrived for the 205 and after that it was properly forgetten about. Well she did. I've been keeping it in my mind every day since then. During a discussion over my birthday dinner a few weeks ago, she mentioned that she was going to pay the gardener she gets in to trim the trees to break in to the lockup because the padlock had rusted solid and she was desperate to use the space in the lockup. I said I'd do it free if I could assess the car. If it was completely fucked, it would have to get dragged out and put on a truck to go to the scrap heap. If I could get it moving, I would make it a project. Next day - 18th January: Time to break open the padlock then. Big screwdriver through the hasp and burst it within 3 seconds. Now to have a look at the car. It's dirty, 3 tyres are flat, one of them creased and the 4th is still at about 10psi. After FIFTEEN YEARS! A gentle rock confirms suspicions that all the wheels are locked so time to get all the wheels off and set about the brakes with a big swing press. The back wheels moved eventually. Judicious use the big hammer, two wheel bolts reinserted and a breaker bar as a lever got the back wheels turning. While the wheels were off I thought I'd see if they held air. All 4 tyres held 35psi. None of them appear to be cracked and the rubber is still "soft" to the scrape of a finger nail. Lack of sunlight attacking them I suppose but it'll get 4 new ones if it becomes roadworthy. After doing the back wheels, the front wheels quickly proved they could be a major problem. I took the calipers, pads and discs completely off the car and even with 2 wheel studs inserted and using the 3/4 drive breaker bar with an extra foot of length over the 1/2 bar, neither wheel / shaft would turn. So either the bearings had seized, the CV joints in the driveshafts had seized or something very sinister was happening inside the gearbox. By this time it was getting dark and cold so time to put it all away for another day. Another day - 24th January: Various discussions were had on the Scotoshite WhatsApp chat and the end result being Mr 320Touring of this parish agreed to come round for a shufty. He was wanting to check up on another car in a lockup only a mile or so away so it was a no brainer. As before, front wheels off, bar on the wheel bolts... nothing. What to do next? We need to use the car's own power to try to free off whatever is seized on the front wheels but the car is nose in to the lockup so we can't get jump leads to it. We need to drag it out but we don't have a tow rope however we manage to find what appears to be a self tightening dog collar / leash in the car and decide to cue MAXIMUM SKETCHINESS!!! A gentle tug from the ML of doom proved the NSF wheel is tight but not seized however the OSF is not moving. Fuck it... drag it while pushing from the front. If we need to shove it back in there's an old tyre in a pile of rubbish waiting to get uplifted by the council that can act as a cushion and the ML will do the job no bother. We also took the front brake discs off to minimise any drag from those. We decided to drag it out just enough to get my jump leads on to the battery. We had already taken the battery out to try it on the leads outside the car. Surprise surprise* it was so dead it had gone open circuit so there was absolutely no magic pixies flowing in to it. Luckily I had an old battery from the 740 that was the same size so that was obtained, inserted and then put to work. Time to leave it to charge for a wee bit. Now that we've got some electricity going from the ML in to the 205 it's time to see what will happen. Thanks to Mr Touring for providing the videos... At one point we were vexed by the daft French screw on battery terminals We were getting a bit desperate by this point. We used quite a lot of "easy start" and the amount of electricity was causing problems. We took a break at this point for 10 mins or so. Mainly to make sure we didn't get too frustrated but also to make sure the maximum possible amount of electricity was in the actual battery so that the leads were just there as a boost. This was clearly a good idea... Learning from all the antics of the last 15 mins or so we left it for another 5 mins. Using a clamp meter we let it get to the point that almost no electricity was flowing in the leads and therefore an almost complete charge and spraying the "easy start" ahead of time, results were finally had... YAY! MUCH ELATION! Oh and that old diesel stinks. Time to get the leads off, move the ML and let the 205 tick over for a few minutes to let the engine settle. Next we found out why the front wheels were not for turning... So yeah. All the CV Joints were completely solid. But anyways it was mission accomplished for the day. We got it moving and a general once over suggests that it should be easily salvageable therefore if auntie wants the space in the lockup, it's going to have to go somewhere. Time to put it back in and wrap up for the day. Thanks to 320 Touring in assistance. The list of work is substantial but not insurmountable. It needs - a battery, front discs, front pads, front calipers, front lower arms, front driveshafts, possibly bearings, rear drums, rear shoes, rear fitting kit, probably handbrake cables, flexi hoses all round, 4 new tyres, 3 of the 4 doors don't work properly, a water leak at the water pump but that can get done with a new cam belt, probably a thermostat, engine oil, filters all round, fresh fuel, a good clean, handbrake light, oil pressure light and a rear screenwash leak inside the tailgate. Oh and a sidelight bulb... Interim time: Lockup secured in Cumbernauld. Car transporter trailer booked for Wed 12th Feb to move it. The V70 will do the honours. Another bit of tinkering - 4th February So it has been agreed the V5 will be transferred in to my name. With an impending trailer move, I thought I'd go back and have another look at things and reassemble the front brakes. I've already installed a new battery so it can be started without the need for leads and it does so quite happily even though the fuel coming from the tank smells like paint. I drove it about in circles for 5 - 10 mins to free up the CV joints and scrape the rust off the brake discs. I also did some straight line tests pulling away in 2nd which seemed to free up the turbo actuator. I also found the radio code so I got that working but you'll have to take my word on it 'cos YouTube will just give me a copyright flag. I shall leave this one here just now. Not much will happen for a while. There will of course be the drama of the trailer move but once it's in the lockup a plan of action will need to be drawn up. A sensible first course will be, I think, to find someone who will give it a once over for MoT viability before any new parts are obtained. All the obvious stuff should be easily DIYable but I don't know what lurks underneath. Some things like the timing belt and water pump will be paid for but the rest will just get picked away at in due course. I also found some period souvenir parking tickets... ---ENDS---
  18. A few months ago, I agreed to reluctantly* add to the collection at home, and went to collect said vehicle. The collectee had sat for over 6 years, and whilst we got it going, it ran rough and being an auto refused to drive out onto the road so I could get my trailer winch cable to it, so I gave up when it started to rain. A month or so later, I went back, got it running a bit better but still not well enough to drive. However, being well organised, this time I had taken a tow rope to drag it onto the road, whereby I could attach the winch rope, however it was at this point I realised I had left the winch battery and winch controls at home. It then started raining, so I gave up and went home. Last week, my friend called past the car with some tools and a new tool for detecting air leaks and found one of the induction pipes was half off in the area you cannot see, after which perfect running was restored. Today, I called in to see him and he told me the glad tidings, and as the sun was out we decided to pop down to Dundee, where the car was located, so I could see for myself. On arrival I parked the Saab next to it so I could attach jump leads, as the battery is unsurprisingly dead after 6.5 years sitting It started easily and ran smoothly, so much so I decided to see if it would move under its own steam. This it did, and brimming with confidence* a run around the crescent it was located in showed all appeared well, even the brakes seemed to be working fine. My friend and I discussed timing for when I could collect it, when I took leave of what little sense I normally have and a decision was made. One of the advantages of my trade insurance is I am covered up to 14 days before the number has to go on the MID so insurance was not a problem. A quick phone call to my friendly MOT man (who works 7 days a week) and it was booked in for an MOT for late this afternoon, on the strict understanding he did not get to see it today. So, pre booked MOT, check, Insured, check, 50 miles from home, check, having just covered a couple of hundred meters after sitting for six and a half years check. WCPGW? Kept the speed down to a max of 50 as the tyres are a bit* cracked and have proper flat spots, with my friend following in my Saab, the journey home was pleasant, warm and comfortable, and most noticeably without an FTP! Tomorrow I will give it a full check over to see what I have bought. So far I know it needs tyres, a thermostat, an new engine temperature sender and a bit of sparkly stick action on the sills.   19. I've seen a few people do this here, so I thought I would jump on the band wagon and talk about one of my cars. Which just so happens to be a Commie Red 1976 Lada 2101 from Lithuania. I bought this over a year ago, and it's sat under a tarpaulin on my mom's drive way ever since. She doesn't mind, because she's an Irish mammy and doesn't drive. I bought the car as I liked it's classic design and the fact the wife absolutely hated it. I also sought out something over 40 years old, as Birmingham was/is introducing that daft ULEZ thing and at the time I worked in the city centre. Since then though I'm starting a new job so the whole ULEZ thing doesn't matter now, especially as they haven't bothered to bring it in yet. The Lada itself is from Lithuania, has been in the UK since 1997. I didn't buy it from the original owner, it's been through two owners before it got to me. Neither of which did what the original owner should've done and register it, so that's currently with the DVLA at the moment. What started as me buying a classic Lada to stick two fingers up to Birmingham City Council and my wife has now turned in to a longer term project. I have a Rover 25/MG ZR that I'm taking the engine from, along with an MX5 gearbox, and I'm putting that in to the Lada along with the half leather seats from the Rover. It's going to be a daily, and I want a daily that looks a bit crap and old that will surprise those clowns in their PCP BMW's. At the moment nothing's been done to the car as I haven't the space. Currently in the process of cleaning a garage that hasn't been cleared since I bought the house 5 years ago, and I've a Peugeot 107 and Toyota Corolla that need attention in there before the Lada even gets moved in there. So I'll update this post as well as the website and YouToob with the work on the car as and when, but I just wanted to say how bloody happy I am to be part of the forum with like minded people who won't give me the agro I get from the wife about these cars. Also, FYI about the site, the name doesn't come from the wife's reaction to the Lada. It comes from her reaction to my Corolla!
  20. How to start a New Year. Meet a Shiter you haven't met before. Relieve him of his car, that's out of MoT and been standing for months. Drive it 40 miles home and leave it at a nearby garage for major work that I can't do myself. The Shiter in question is Hillman Imp, and the car is the red Jaguar XJ8 Sport that he recently offered at no charge. Well you can't turn that down, can you? Handover accomplished, on neutral ground. Note the registration, that cued up the car's new name: Hairy Pussy. If that doesn't suit a Sport-oriented Jaguar, what does? So now that I've taken possession... Yes, the Woollard shot. Has to be done. No fuelling shot, because it didn't need any. I've now dropped it at a nearby garage where the welding work will take place, and probably a couple of other small jobs it might need for MoT. Updates to follow. Meanwhile, since I drove it back to Barrow, I can say it's a lovely car. Yes, there are things that need doing, but it's pretty much plug-n-play. Have a couple of snaps from my end of the journey.

This thread is to document the adventures, and lets be honest misadventures of me and my vehicles, the main focus of this thread is to document my Range rover P38 i bought at the not so idiotic age of 17 from a chap in Worcestershire. Pics are few and far between. Originally I passed my test and my Dad wanted me to buy something small and economical, i left the house telling everyone I was going out to view a citroen Saxo VTS, And rocked up with this a few hours later! My Parent IE my Dad was speachless and the rest of 'em. Well either laughed with pity or walked away!! It went haywire when I told them it was a 4.6 Vogue with LPG 🤑 Spec wise. Vogue specification Wood/leather steering wheel 16ish way seats with 2 person memory + heaters Harman Karden sound system Satnag 4spd Auto with sport mode "chortle" 18" Comet alloys Monte Carlo Blue Air suspension Climate pack - heaterd front and rear windows. And a few other odds and ends . The standard practice after buying such a car is to start driving it hard and long distance Daily.. Of course it got covered in shit from all the country lane jaunts, My Main love of cars comes from fixing them and cleanin' 'em myself, as such the old girl had to look her best, As odd and knobby as it sounds I do get rather nerdy when it comes to cleanin' Washmitts and speshul buckets anorl!!   22. Oooops I did it again......was a song produced two years after this automobile. I told myself ages ago that I’d thin the fleet down and cut down spending ...... it didn’t last long. If this new purchase is a worthy keeper then I may part with the 50 quid omega. But let’s not be hasty yet! transport steed of choice is my 05 discovery and a trailer, no pics yet as it’s still pitch black outside.   23. Been a serial lurker and occasional poster of nonsense, but have never quite got round to posting some pictures and the ongoing tribulations of being a serial VW licker. First a disclaimer - I like old VWs, partly as I grew up with them and partly because I understand how the work and I can fix* them. I do not like the 'scene' attached to them, it seems to attract too many of a certain type of person I am often allergic to - they bring me out in a shouty rage. First car was a'69 beetle in red, driven flat out everywhere until the rust took it. This was followed by a succession of Mk2 golf , vauxhall omega (vauxhall being close to VW in the sales ads) a free Mk3 golf which was dire and tried to kill me multiple times. I have no photos of any of these as they were pre-camera phone and mostly awful. Then came a T25 camper bought using generous donations from friends and family at our wedding . Bought, and a week later after hovering 15 years of dog hair out of it, we drove it all the way to northern Norway on honeymoon. Used it for a while. Bought a vauxhall astra estate (again, it was almost a VW in the sales section). It sucked. It did a year of commuting then it was scrapped. Was gifted a skoda fabia estate by my dad as a sensible run around. During this time my wife wanted a sensible runaround for her and the kids, so we bought a bright orange 1971 beetle (rusty of course) which was excellent fun. People were openly critical of apparent lack of regard for our offsprings safety. I pointed out it had seat belts. Due to rusting the T25 was sold as a project, the Skoda was sold for being too dull and a T2 purchased. Here is the peak of VW ownership, where the beetle, bay and T25 are all in one place just before sale: So now we had two aircooled vehicles, the newest of which was made in 1973. This lasted for exactly 9 months., during which I did lots of this: to be repeatedly rewarded with this: When the breakdown driver asks how the kids are getting on, you know you've seen him too much.... I also conducted some invisible repairs on the rusty bits of the beetle. I'll point them out if anyone can't see them: A promotion and car allowance then allowed me to purchase a C3 Picasso (best not ask, I hate it). Its purple. I feel like a dick when I drive it. Beetle then had to go due to third child and not enough seats, but it had the good engine, the van did not. A swap occurred. My neighbors love* me and find my antics endearing*. I clearly have no need for a drive or garage. After 1 too many FTPs, I was told van or family. I chose family and the van left. I then went a looked at another T25 minibus (three kids now) and was in much trouble for even considering another van. Two weeks later, after some small* arguments* we were in total agreement* and the van was purchased. Roughly 18 months ago - note lovely laqueer peel, mismatched rear wing and low level tide mark: After some light fiddling I have made a very basic day van affair, and we dragged it with camping gear and the three kids all the way up to the arctic circle in Finland last summer (wife has family in that part of the world). 6 days before departure I noticed the rear suspension had a bit of paint hanging off. I pulled and it showed this below: Trip to machine mart, a google of "mig wleding for numpties" and a youtube video later and I'd made this: and away we went. Here it is in a moody B&W photo in the land of the midnight sun, which really brings out the high quality paint. the rear suspension is still attached though, so winning. That's an epic catch up post really, but will use this space now to document the exciting* repairs and work done on it to keep everything attached .and working....
  24. A rather unexpected tale of luck and judgement happened yesterday. I finished work at 11.30am (joys of double day shifts) and went home and was idly browsing Facebook when my mate messaged me and asked me would I be interested in something he’d just acquired? Naturally, curiosity got the better of me and I went and had a look. I arrived at his gaff and saw the new project sitting on his drive. ”I’ve got no time to do anything with it and I need it off the driveway. I’m gonna send it to the oval or cut it up for parts if you don’t want it”. Now he’s pulling at my heartstrings, any car that’s destined for the scrapyard is always a car that I’d like to save and so, after a short test drive, I have purchased this fine automobile. Meet Dudley, the K11. Sadly no KULEKSHEN FRED as my mate delivered it on his flatbed as he was off to pick up a car on his way through. Why Dudley? Well the day this car was registered is the day that Dudley Moore passed away, so it seemed like a nice tribute. Plus it’s also a day after my birthday so it must be serendipity. It’s done 81k and has MOT until March. Part service history inside the Nissan book pack. Original dealer plates, sadly no dealer sticker. First thing was to give it a wash to establish how good the bodywork is. First impressions are, that other than a couple of pin dents, this Micra is bloody immaculate. I can’t find a single spot of rust anywhere on this car. Sills, arches and rear boot lid are all solid. Even the K11’s weak-spot, the front crossmember is solid. So, what’s the plan for it? I’m not actually sure what I’m going to do with it yet. I need to buy a car cover firstly to preserve the paintwork on it. It will need a bloody good machine polish, the wheeltrims sacking off into the nearest bin and a few other niggly little things like the wipers aren’t parking (motor fault?), the sunroof has been sealed shut (blocked drain pipes?) and I’m wondering how much white smoke this is meant to kick out, it got to working temp, didn’t overheat and the fan cuts in but there was a bit of white smoke coming out the back. I’m hoping it’s because of lack of use. I’m sure some K11 fans will be able to answer some of these questions. So yeah, there we have it. Pleased as punch with it!

In the Tangerine Dream thread, @mk2_craig said "there's a green one here in Jersey" I asked him to lob a note on the car with "contact me." Craig did one better. "Heres the guys address." 👍 I sent the guy a letter with photos of mine, a rough explanation of what mine had needed doing... And contact me via phone, email, text or carrier pigeon. The letter vanished for a few days, as I had sent it tracked. Boxing day 2018, I received an email... Over the course of 2019, I'd send a quick email. How are you etc? October 20th... Absolutely!!! Having just purchased the 4x4, it would squeeze me financially. But I need a green Alessi. Having a quick look, plane fares are cheap and a ferry back isn't bad. Unfortunately, the owner didn't buy a new car and he would keep the Alessi. The dream wasn't dead, just delayed. I then spent many pounds on the 4x4, to take the pain away and a crate engine that I didn't need. Thursday 21st November. I am not letting a fixable green Alessi die. Is it financially viable? No. It's a 12 year old Panda with 151k that has never had an MOT and would need parts to fix it and then to bring the car home and register it. My holidays for the year are used up, Christmas is coming and I have very few spare pennies. I need to find storage in Jersey for a few months, just to give me some breathing time to earn some extra Pasetas and to figure out an action plan. Speaking to the owner on Friday 22nd of November. After we both said hello, I said "I'm not letting a green Alessi get scrapped" I explained that I needed to find some cheap storage, he said that's fine and you've got a week to find something as the car is on my drive. He emailed me the next day saying "I might have some cheap storage" and then he emailed later saying "I might have free storage, give me until Sunday to confirm" OK, this car is somehow mystical as nobody wants this car to die. As on Monday. "You have free storage until Easter." Here's what it needs as far as I'm aware. Rear axle, rear springs and shocks. Couple of tyres Drivers seat belt Dashboard vent is cracked Front towing eye cover All these things are doable as I've done the Pandarins axle last year. I've posted a picture of ForFiatsSakes alessi that had failed in exactly the same way, mine hadn't completely collapsed. But as you can tell, it's the same issue. The engine does have high milage, but it's working. If it fails, then used, they're ten a penny.... I also have a brand new crate engine. 🥰 I also have a complete green interior, that me and @For Fiats Sake took from a black Alessi that was already in the scrapyard. Flights are cheap from either Manchester, Liverpool or East Midlands. They're not every day, but Liverpool has a Saturday departure and Sunday arrival. Not yet, but it would be nice to fly out for a weekend to see the car and get a parts list. But for now, it's getting collected on a flatbed and it's going to live on a farm. The plan is to fly out in January to get a parts list and I'll get to see The Pistachio Cream. @mk2_craig is a superhero.
