    What a weekend.
N01 son got his new car, he's worked hard and saved a lot for it.
A few hours before this we got a call to say my mother was very ill and we should get there soon.
Around 15 minutes after we got there she passed with me holding her hand. I was telling her we had just gotten a dachshund puppy.

Apart from talking to gm on Saturday afternoon, this is the first time I have mentioned it.

After a bit of a car buying hiatus, I've truly went above and beyond.
First is this 1986 Ford Capri 1.6 Laser.
I've always wanted a Capri and decided now was finally the time to get one.

It's in pretty good nick. Just need to get the bonnet painted but otherwise it doesn't really need much.
I was really torn between a V12 Jaguar XJS and the Capri but I definitely made the right choice.
Which brings me onto the next purchase.

With my 190D's impending MOT failure, I needed something to drive to work whilst I sort it out (rear suspension needs renewed entirely), so I was on the lookout for something cheap, reliable and economical.

I ticked the cheap box at £1400 but I veered significantly off course on the other two with this Jaguar XJ40 3.2S...

Really I think this was a bit of a bargain....

derskine reacted to GingerNuttz in Operation Triumph Herald 13/60
My old boys first motor was a Herald 13/60 but when my mum was pregnant with my sister he had to get rid so I decided to build him one as a present about 3 year ago, galaxies and many other cars put it on the back burner. He landed in the hospital other week and it really brought it home that I need to finish it and give him it before anything happens so I'm working on the Manta then spending a half hour every day just fixing a door or a boot lid on the Herald.
This is the pos I got for £300 in all it's hammerite glory

I decided to do a nut and bolt rebuild with all brand new parts so it wouldn't give him any bother
    Paint stripping

stripped right down to a chassis and new floors put in the bulkhead

His was mobiltiy blue and I wanted something a bit more modern so Riviera Blue was picked although I'm kicking myself for not going Miami blue so next one will be Miami.

At this point I got the itch to modify the engine so I ripped it back out and threw in a Kent TH3 and got the head and block skimmed to lift the compression a wee bit, threw on 4 carbs and called it a day.
The cam is a higher power band rally spec and it's got a little bit of a lighter flywheel so it spins up well enough, wide band and megajolt/speeduino to be fitted once it's painted and on the road.

Tub was a riot and needed a ton of welding .

Bulkhead and bonnet was done next.

This is where I met Captain70's so I never really did much after this apart from veneer the dash panel and put pedals etc in.
There's a sound system and new seats up the loft for it so he can hammer about in it listening to some bands from his youth.

I could have bought one for what I have in it between the hours and parts but it wouldn't have meant as much I reckon so lets hope he bloody likes it 🤣

I was going to comment the other day, but it looked like you had fixed the issue so didn't feel necessary...
My Capri (1.6 pinto also) is doing exactly the same thing.
Runs like an absolute bag of shit until warm, and when warm, foot to the floor and it'll stumble/pop bang etc.
I haven't had much time to have a good look into it, but I did rebuild the carb and it also didn't help.
I expect you will probably fix it before I do, but I was erring on an air leak somewhere for mine.

To be honest I'm probably going to chuck it into the Morris Leslie auction and see what it makes when I'm done, hopefully with some profit to offset the fuel costs over the next couple of months.
