  1. Yes you're quite right.....I also see them holding people up on country roads. Not quite as badly as the tractors but not far off!

Actually to be fair, I have seen 1 or 2 Micras being driven quickly on motorways but it's definitely the exception rather than the norm.

Plenty of other cars do get driven selfishly in the middle lane or unnecessarily slowly on other roads, but a Micra to me seems to be a typical culprit which springs to mind, especially in K11 flavour, in the same way that the back bumper kissers always seem to be black TDI Volkswagens or Audis! Complete generalisations, but that's how all assumptions are made - just ask the insurance companies!

  2. My latest daily driver is a 2002 Saab 9-3 2.0t SE which I bought back in July. I would be interested in getting the performance uprated, there is a Hirsch perfomance upgrade done through Saab specialists, is this the best way to do it or is there a cheaper route to getting the performance improved? (which maintains reliability etc)

Also, do insurance companies take a dim view of performance upgrades? For instance will they sting you more for modifying a car from 150bhp to 200bhp as opposed to just going out and buying a car that has 200bhp as standard?

  3. Might well consider it for next year. Is it just a case of turning-up?

As a spectator, yes and it's free entry but donations are encouraged. They give you a little sticker to wear which prevents you being hassled by collection buckets more than once and you can move freely between the sections safe in the knowledge that you've chipped into it.

If you want to take a car there to display, you need to apply a while beforehand as with the Bromley Pageant and you may have a deadline of at least a couple of weeks before the event unless there is still space at a late stage which is unlikely. It's reasonable though, only about 6 quid I think.

Great show, not been before, spotted Seth and his beige estate, met EL by a shiteworthy R6 and saw all variety of interesting vehicles. It has all the variety you would expect at Bromley but on a smaller scale and less regimented. Still took me about 5 hours to see everything as by being there early on, I had to keep returning to the same sections later to see new arrivals. Took over 800 pics

Would definitely go again next year!

  4. These Saabs seem to go for so little money at the mo. I am considering getting a convertible one to hoon around in for for the summer months, even if it will make me look like a poof.

The problem is they are so cheap, i am afraid of buying one as I worry they are gash. How much Vectra are they? I would have thought that would be a good thing for an old banger as parts will be plentiful and easy to fix or are the mechanicals Saab?

I've been using a 97 900 S convertible since last summer & apart from being quite sluggish (you really have to drive it which I'm not accustomed to doing) & using a fair amount of fuel without giving too much back, I have to say it's been very reliable! Only problem I've had (touchwood) was a broken clutch cable last October but then I seem to be prone to getting those no matter what car I'm driving!

    :?

  5. Impressed by all these Maestro-spots - in 18 months of ownership I have seen this many other Maestros: ONE MAESTRO. Comprehensively knackered red C-plate one In a car park in Maidstone - in fact I think it might have dumped.

Desirability-wise, I think Maestros must rank amongst the least esteemed British cars right now - though as there are so few left the stigma of rust-fugged national embarrassment is about to give way to fond and indulgent retro-nostalgia, just as it has done with Allegros and that. I certainly can't see this car depreciating from now on.

Having spent quite a lot of time in Borehamwood the past few months due to my o/h living there, there isn't a lot of tat to be found but 1 or 2 of the most exciting happen to be a very mouldy looking C plate Maestro in a driveway looking like it hasn't moved for about 15yrs, it looks like it's welded to the spot by moss & grime! The other, running along the same theme is a pristine looking bright yellow series 3 Allegro, W plate & being piloted by what appears to be a young girl. A very encouraging sight indeed! I speculated that she'd probably got lumped with it by inheriting it from a grandparent but my girlfriend actually protested that she could actually like it & have chosen it! To be fair, it isn't the first time I've spotted a young female driving an Allegro, maybe they have an affinity for characterful cars young or old! :)

  6. Wouldnt it be fun to lob a plastic 5 litre can half full of fuel in, lit, -to see what'll happen....

And so it bounced off the Standard 10 van in the 3rd row, landed beside the MK1 Triumph 2000, and quickly caught..

Took 13 fire engines over 12 hours. Had to build their own pond after they exhausted all the local supply....... They managed to save a few -but they were so damaged by the effect of grappling hooks that they're uneconomic.. I've sold on most -kept the Trabbie Tramp, Fiat 2300 & a couple more

And its not the first time.. many years back -when I had a barn near Lingfield,Surrey I tried to insure it |(Big mistake). They required such military defence that an Oik decided he needed to investigate with his JCB - just ramming a wall in. The damage & losses were huge

I don't know how some people sleep at night, they must get off on being anti-social, sadistic yobs.....just for kicks, y'know!

  7. Pleasantly surprised by that article, you would never get that kind of thoughtful consideration of opinion (inaccuracies excepted) for something like that on the TV show, heck they wouldn't even bother giving it the time of day! It's bordering on TG doing what it used to do & was set up to do, informing us about & reviewing different cars for our delectation. It's obvious they are saving being sensible for the website & possibly the magazine, because it's not as 'entertaining'

I expected to see some kind of modern day take on the original concept as they had tried to do with other Lada models, but it appears very much as it left us! I always thought the Niva had a very surprised look about it!

  8. The regulations outlawed them being fitted to any cars produced after a certain date. So your mum's Supra can have them, my 480 can, but if a manufacturer tried to put a design into production now with pop-ups, they wouldn't get very far.

That's how I understand it anyway.

Was there a similar thing with Bull-bars? I believed that there was a blanket ban on them but I still see older 4x4s with them so I guess it's the same ruling as per the pop-ups!

  9. Well, the seller has been in touch. The car is still for sale, has a CT & the owner has the Carte Gris. He says there is a slight gearbox leak but reckons it will get back to Blighty no problem.

    Looks like its going ahead........

    :D x10

  10.

PS: why don't they make cars with pop up lights anymore? Were they just a fad?!

    Pedestrian safety.

They can't have been outlawed if existing cars are still allowed them? (such as my mum's Supra)

  11. There was a resin Mk2 MR2 but its a while back and I can't remember the manufacturer. We got one and only had that on a sale or return basis as the importer had it as a sample from the manufacturer and wanted rid. Don't think they were imported here in the end. Sorry thats not much help really.

Not come across a Sunny or 120Y that I can think of either.

    Ebbro Mk2 MR2s (Minichamps make the Mk3 & Matchbox, M-Tech have made the Mk1)

    Complete with pop up headlamps.

    I have one in red.....somewhere.

PS: why don't they make cars with pop up lights anymore? Were they just a fad?!

  12. I often get people at traffic lights by simply easing off as I approach. They're sitting there because they rushed, I stay in second and use momentum to leave them standing.

I try do that if I can in the Saab but that's because of the point I made that pulling away from a standing start is not one of it's strong points & also because the car is incredibly easy to stall when moving off / I'm paranoid about the clutch cable breaking again / I'm a lazy sod....

  13. I'm fairly desperate for a MK2 Granada, a Sierra and an E39 5 Series. Must be 1/18, must have opening doors and not be terrible.

Due to my BOREDOM on a Thursday morning, I have just checked to see if any of these are available. They're not although Autoart do 1/18 Sierra Cosworths as you probably know.

and you can get a 1/18 3 door Cosworth from Minichamps; in their Car Collection range so sub £30

  14. Hello,

As years go by Luxury and Vintage cars is getting more expensive than the others. Lexus cars is more expensive than any American Luxury cars like Cadillac and Lincoln. Lexus vehicles are typically much more expensive. Keep in mind that Lexus competes more directly with Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi. For example, the Lexus LS really competes with the Mercedes S-class, BMW 7-series, and the Audi A8. The Lexus LX competes with the Mercedes GL-class and the Land Rover Range Rover. And the Lexus RX competes with the Mercedes GLK, BMW X3, and the Audi Q5.

Does that mean you'll take it? Or only if it was a Lexus? :?

  15. I'd love to have the chance to take pleasure in something like this but nothing I've ever driven has been able to get the better of the modern euro ncap bland mobiles! Obviously when I'm piloting one of my proper old skool cars, I really don't expect them to power past anything, I don't own them for that purpose so I'm not disappointed. In fact they don't even inspire me to drive them quickly & that's fine, I just let the world get on & pass me by! However, when I've been in something more modern & supposedly with a bit of poke to it, I'm continually left frustrated by it's inability to pull away from average Joe in his boggo Focus or Astra or whatever, or even get left behind by him when joining a fast road & then only overtaking several minutes later once I've built up enough speed (looking like I'm merely retaliating which I'm not & annoys me no end.). These cars can go fast once I'm already travelling a fair lick & I can force them to go fast but I really have to work it whereas everybody else seems to have a turbo boost button in their car (or does everybody just thrash their cars as a matter of course?!) on even the must mundane of vehicles. I don't begrudge moving over for something exotic or souped up which is obviously faster but I begrudge not being able to get ahead & stay ahead of everything else. My Fiesta was a sheep in wolves clothing, it was little more than a basic Fiesta with big bumpers! My Alfa was fun but it was still made to look silly by Billy Boardroom in his 5 Series! Mum's Saab looks nice but it really doesn't drive well, I have trouble to keep up with, overpower & stay ahead of....well most things! I've never owned anything that was quick from a standing start but I'd really love to! Undetaking - that one really boils my blood, I try to stop it from happening but usually it's someone in a BMW, Audi or Mercedes (i.e. German) & there just doesn't seem to be any way of stopping them from humiliating me. I'd love a car which can stop that from happening & wipe the smug, superior look from their face! Anybody recommend anything at the shitey end of the scale that can make Mr German rep mobile look silly?? I'm hoping mum's Supra turbo would be just the ticket for winning the traffic light grand prix & making anybody other than the Porsche & Aston owners eat my dust but unfortunately until we can stop it overheating it can only be used for local trips! :(

  16. The fastest I've driven my cars & their maximum speed potential:

    Fiat Ritmo 65 CL n/a 95mph

    Alfa 146 Ti 110 133mph

    R9 GTL 75 95mph(?)
