New points are often shite.  Cheap patterns that cause more issues than they solve, Yours were fine, when laid up.

So, I’d prefer the originals. You’ll find ‘ adjustment’ in the screw- loosening it will allow you to adjust them to more open or closed.  Make the gap a little wide if in doubt, rather than a little  closed.

Around the inception of this wondrous site, I ran around in an 'F' plate Mazda 121, a wondrous little thing.

So wondrous in fact that I bought a lil Kia Pride for each adult child, to learn on, abuse and run as a first car - all paid for - for one year. Household was awash with them, at one stage

Surprisingly each then elected to keep their car after the 365 introductory offer passed; only one eventually being sold - the rest run to their death.

I think they were fantastic little parcels of cheap fun. They taught all my kinder to value their kneecaps, built up several 'no claims (- & one claim!)' and showed each how they could travel economically.

I'd love another, if I fell across one at a silly price.

Baines make extrusions for bulk sale - although they will sell individual lengths. But they have no clue what it’s being fitted too. I used a catalogue to match, or sent a small sample for matching.   They had no clue what is was being used for.
At one time I was buying so much their Sales rep came to see me- somewhat bemused that I wasn’t commercial.
ive had no call to use them for several years, but expect they are still there. Good stuff, too - always solved the problems mentioned., and pliable years on.

I was “ lucky” enough to drive one of these, when nearly new.
Several  were purchased by the Electricity Council, of which I was a ‘ valued’ employee. I used to motorcycle  in from Surrey everyday, Sumer or Winter, so was asked if I wanted to take one home  for  the weekend -& detail my experiences. Guess they felt I was hardy/ street wise enough!
The A3, on a Friday afternoon - was not a pleasant experience.
It was dangerously slow, rattled & banged like a kit car,  ventilation was dire and I was properly concerned for my safety,  several times.  It’s instrumentation was vague, or not working , and the overall interior was thin, or tatty, already.  It had covered less than 1,000 miles but was looking tired.  Battery condition could not be accurately established -& I was warned of ‘ dire consequences’ if it ran out of charge ( as happened subsequently to my Boss!)

I did use it, at the weekend, to visit my local - but bottled out & drove it home before it got dark!
The return journey, on Monday, was little better ( despite a VERY early start).  At least this tine I was ‘ prepared’. Hazards on- from Tolworth to Roehsmpton.!
    I made my report - which wasn’t favourable. I wasn’t asked again.
Just too far ahead of its time, I guess.

It probably is just lack of use tbh Eddy, coupled with it being winter so damp old electrics starting to cause problems. I had it once in the Capri where I went out in it after winter lay-up, switched the heater fan on and it didn’t do anything, then a trail of smoke came out from behind the dash, then it started working fine! Just damp and dirty contacts I think!
Not much anyone can do at the moment sadly. None of mine have been used since about November. There’s just nowhere to go and nothing to do, I dont even think going for a drive around is allowed at the moment is it!?
Things will change though, might be a few months but it will get there in the end.

My nephew is on the max morphine now and it looks like the cancer will win in the next few days. Shouldn’t grumble as it was expected way back in the spring but the shite of this year has stopped him making the most of that extra time. There is no good time to have cancer but this year has to be one of the worst.

Fascinating history. Was the owners car for 10 years, kept by the Ex  when they split.

He found it again, on the pile in the breakers ( hence the various damaged panels) & persuaded them to take it down and repatriate it.
He then stored it in his barn ( with approx 70 Skoda!) until Skoda space trumped his old Yugo- which he didn’t have the knowledge to sort.
We chatted a while, I sent pics of my 511 & 313 ( bought here, off an ex member in Plymouth) . I proposed a light resto, with Fiat 128 type mods & a Uno turbo lump ( I have already) & he agreed.

We collected it a few days back, from darkest Canterbury. Aside from several dented panels it looks sound enough, clearly been loved in the past.
Changed the wheels for ones with pumped up, unshredded tyres, freed the brakes, loosened the steering ( still tight) , strapped the loose bits, had a brief attempt at firing ( no spark)  then hauled it west.
It’s  going to sit, under cover, till the Spring when the young bus can use it as a learning exercise.  Could be fun.
