I do hope that whatever decision you come to you end up with a car you can enjoy.
These cars have never been more than mediocre at anything but the one thing mine excels at for me is being enjoyable to drive and that's the only criteria it has to meet. You could change every component and not find happiness. Sure lever arm dampers have been bettered and any number of alternative engines will perform better. For me the pleasure is to only change things that are worn out or glaringly awful and then just use it. I do a 300 mile round trip in the car every fortnight, all year round on top of everyday use for shopping. My wife prefers driving it to all our other heaps, which perhaps isn't saying much...
There is a decent GT out there at about £3000 that has been looked after and with a bit of nurturing will give years of service but its not the red one at the beginning of this thread.

This thicko got nicked for running on 3, but the more cunning knock a wedge under the axle near the pivot to keep the punctured wheel off the ground making the stupidity harder to spot. A skinflint neighbour drove his David Brown on the road for weeks like this rather than fix the puncture.
Trackrod ends were, and probably still are, often neglected on agric vehicles that need no MOT. One farm workshop where I worked routinely welded a bent bit of rod under the cup to bodge failed joints back together rather than replace them. I always give farm vehicle a wide berth when passing them.

Its a very complicated scientifical process. I buy stick-on letters from the hardware shop and they last a couple of years then curl up and drop off. I then hand the plate and a whiskery brush to my Mrs who has more patience than me and carefully slathers paint on to the bit where the sticker used to be. Lastly I put a photo on here at the lowest resolution I can so that it looks better than it really is.
My Loadstar plates was produced the same way.

I paint my own number plates because I prefer them to shit modern letters that look like 80s dot matrix printers used to produce. You can only get the right typeface from one supplier because the other dies got confiscated, at least that's what I heard. Whatever, they bum you for about £60 a pair, a most unshitely sum. I try to do them about the right size, if it gets up anyone's nose I'm most awfully sorry. No I'm not.

Auctions , it's pretty simple, read the catalogue , decide what you want to buy then bid up to a maximum

DO NOT under any circumstances walk into the room just before the hammer goes down and put your hand up because something seems cheap

Are we all done, no interest on the Omega watch at £20 , are we sure seems very cheap to me , hammer in the air

    Your bid sir £20

    Fucking bollocks

I'm dying of a cold at the moment so might be a few days- you now have the number if desperate. I must say I like the sound of a Basculante for shifting the old ordure.

That's because we have people in charge who make allusions to caring about the climate and ecology but are really corporate shills who put the burden on individuals, and would happily set fire to the planet for their personal gain.

Get ready to feel old because...

the first prototype C* FLs showed up in 1976 and then hit the market in 1980, thats almost 40 years ago now! (Fuck I feel old now...)

The All Mighty Philips SL lamp

admittedly those where rather big and bulky (so not very compact) and somewhat expensive (when compared to normal bulbs) lamps, but they where bloody awesome solid reliable things rocking magnetic control gear

known as Jam jars on account of their weight and glass construction

    but they lasted well

shown above is an early production, black base example, I have some later white base examples  (my oldest from 1989), but no black base ones sadly (really need to rectify that at some point)

(I remember getting my first SL lamp when I was about 8, got it off Amazon for a few quid, had mum bring the package straight to school when she came to pick me up, and I opened it there n then and ran around excitingly showing it to all the teachers, ahh good times )

admittedly, "affordable" CFLs only showed up in the late 90s to early 2000s and in that regard they only really had a "heyday" of about 15-10 years

Here's some bits of Daf 44 engine. There's a pair of barrels, 2 pistons, (one slightly marked) huge carb, distributor, 6v dynamo hum, fuel pump, pushrods and other top end bits and bobs. It's all really free as long as you collect it (dynamos alone fetch £30). I could package it up but you will need to finance my inebriation before I could carry out such a task.

There is. I nearly added the boozer at Burton Coggles to it yesterday as I enjoyed the bean curry I ate there on Friday night. Unfortunately I think they'd used gunpowder instead of curry powder as I woke up with a horrible burning feeling in my guts later that night like I've never had before.
That could have made the place eligible for http://autoshite.com/topic/19846-eating-places-to-avoid-like-the-plague/?hl=places+to+eat but since I experienced no further discomfort and the beer was OK I decided to let it off. Indeed, I let quite a few off.

Thinking sensibly, if it's going to be a camper, you want something simple, that will happily sit about for ages then have a period of intense use with no complaints.

I'd go for an old idi diesel of some sort- like the 2.8 nissan engine/Merc om603/transit Banana diesel etc

I'm out of touch with motorcycles since selling my T140 in 2001.
I have great memories of doing stuff like the National and other rallies all over Europe. A friend left me several Russian 650s last year and I wondered if it would spur me into putting one on the road, but owning examples of most Soviet bikes in the 70's has kept that itch well and truly scratched.
I would have been more tempted by an MZ - I never had an etz... I did, however sample a German friend's IFA 350 from the same factory. A bit of a disappointment, it was quite lumpy with both cylinders firing simultaneously, defeating the object of having flat twin.

If anyone is interested in acquiring Ural I might be able to help...

I saw these in Llangollen this afternoon. I've had 5 MZ 250s in years gone by but didn't think folks bothered with them any more. This bloke obviously does, must be hardcore camping in Feb too. I've no idea what a Misty is but his mate rides one.
