    Big Twingo, meet small Twingo.
Now, question is, anyone know where I might get some 1:18 scale wheels similar to the ones on the big one.

I like those old Victors.  Good save Triggs
I ran this one three years back.  Don't think you ever saw it.  It's since been stripped and repainted properly

The Vyvern mascot was to fill the holes a previous dork drilled to mount a Jaguar leaper!

I know i posted about this on the News 24 thread but i thought i'd start it's own thread, just because.
I've known the car for a few years as it's owner and his wife took it to all the local car shows and came to our East Coast Retros car meet every month without fail, sadly his lovely wife passed away in January and the owner couldn't bear driving it anymore so did what all grieving widows do and put it up for sale and bought a immaculate 1975 Jaguar XJ6L. This was where i got involved, it got posted onto my FB group for a good price, Mrs Trigger saw it and declared her love for it and i don't need much persuasion to buy a car!.

The purchase was a bit odd, normally i wouldn't have gone under current circumstances but it was a good price and wasn't far away so i took the risk, i put a mask on, kept my distance and did all the payment via online banking and even did the V5 online, it was quite easy really, to save anymore risk though a friend who does car recoverys offered to collect it for me and swap it with my Marina and take that to a farm near my dads so that i didn't have to drive it.

It's very pretty! Mrs Trigger is over the moon with it too so that's extra brownie points!

There's lots of little jobs to do, someone was excitable with the wood screws so I've got some stainless ones on order.

There's a bit of rust here and there

    and the wings dented.

But all in all it's very tidy for the money i paid, there's not a lot of old history with it but I do know it was a A reg once until it lost it's plate around 2003 time, the same time as it was involved in a  accident and became a donor car for Danny Hopkins in PC magazine but it was deemed too nice to break, someone did spend a lot of money on it back in 2007 though!.

I've already started a few little jobs, the wipers have been swapped for original old stock chrome ones i had with new rubbers to replace the modern plastic ones with the ugly black clips.

Front number plate straightened and a few bulbs replaced.

    and some stickers removed.

I do plan on getting the wheels repainted, I'm thinking cream with the chrome caps although they need replacing too, underseal the underside, the steering is very wandery, not sure if that's the box or bushes yet and i definitely need to fit some front and rear seat belts but we both love it so car, Mrs T drove it today for the first time now it's insured and took to the 3 on the tree gearbox straight away which was good as it was her first time with that kind of box.
I took it up the lane around the back for some photos with my nice camera.

So there you go, and before anyone else asks, I still haven't decided on the headlight lips!

Twingo now has moderately effective brakes. Only moderately though as they are pathetically small to start with. An upgrade would be an idea but... meh.
Set of tyres and a service next I suppose.

A proper shame - been a subscriber to RC since the relaunch and really enjoyed it Wonder what happens with my subscription now then.  It was probably the nearest thing we'll see to a modern incarnation of Jalopy I guess. I suppose, looked at it objectively it's not a massive surprise as it is very niche but I find that comparable mags - Modern Classics, PC etc leave me a bit cold and I rarely bother with them.
Be a shame if Classic Van & Pickup has gone too, not something I bought often but enjoyable when I did.
I suppose we'll just be left with a small selection of mass market magazines dealing with old cars now. And theres only so many articles about MGs and E Types I'm interested in (=0)

You just know that some mindless stoner is going to cover all that genuine, honest shitness with fake rust and swastikas and cardboard suitcases and shit until you want to punch them in the throat.

A real shame.  There was a thread about this over on FB last night in which Sam Skelton appeared to take aim at me.  The point I made was simple: Kelsey said shops have closed meaning sales were down, I (reasonably) said very few retailers have actually closed.  They just have less footfall.  I'd rather people were honest and said "we sold so few copies that it's not viable" rather than saying "shops are closed LOL".
I work in 'traditional media' too, but our sales have not been down anywhere near as much as some print media (-70% is the number people are talking of).  We're down probably 15% but with new advertisers taking advantage of the moment we're probably down less than 10%).
I only feel for people like Craig who's a smashing guy and great talent.
And whilst it's popular to knock Practical Classics, it's done something right to survive 40 years.  I've bought the last few months at full RRP and have enjoyed them greatly.  So with that, plus the fact two of my chums work there, I'm about to take out a subscription now.
If you enjoy what magazines do, you should too.
There's another argument about social media influencers and the like (especially Youtubers).  When you're starting out, you think you're beating the system and getting your work seen without "old fashioned nonsense" getting in the way.  The problem is, long term, you earn shit money and nobody truly values what you're doing.  (I've written this in a hurry but happy to explain further another time).

Little bit more done on the Bodge 50 yesterday. (Also got a new Avatar as I think we've all seen enough of the frog-faced fascist twat and poster boy for fuckwitted 'Im not a racist but'-types Nigel Farage)
My caliper seals and pistons turned up so tackled my seized-up caliper:

    Cylinder bores a bit sorry-looking

Cleaned them up with WD and wed & dry paper, rinsed out with brake cleaner and compressed air then fitted a new seal in with plenty of red rubber grease

These don't have a bellows-type dust cover like most calipers, theres a second lip seal held in with a thin metal retaining ring that has to be evenly 'encouraged' into place, I squeezed them in with a G-clamp

In go the lovely new pistons! Sweeeeet. Very satisfying how these just glide in under hand pressure.

Quick clean-off then refit with new mintex pads and new fitting kit. Lovely. Also greased the kingpin on this side meaning I could refit this wheel at last.
Also finished off the welding on th passenger side:

Had to make a tricky patch with a 3-d curvature, I did the old 'Esther Rantzen teeth' trick on it but it wasn't my best ever effort

Still I got it all done after a fashion, with a bit of linishing and some seam sealer it was looking a lot better!!!! Hope its rainproof!!!

I'm about 85% confident that it will be, I thnk it should drain into the inner wing OK as its meant to now. Got to give everything a bit of a rub-down and coat of my favourite red oxide next!!! Oh and start stripping out the drivers side properly.

About seven years ago, for no better reason than I had fugg all better to do, I was roped into loading up my Focus Estate with tools and old Renault parts and driving up to Scotcheggland with someone who had bought a Renault 30 on t'bay. Turned out he hadn't actually asked whereabouts in Scotland until after he won it.

It was in Stornoway. Which is only a good nine hour drive from Manchester. Then three hours of vomiting up lager on the worlds roughest ferry crossing. Then finding out that Stornoway doesn't have much in the way of hot chicks (certainly not on a cold night in November anyway). R30 had been sat outside a 'house' for the last twelve months, exposed to the sea air and was utterly buggered so got left there. Attempting to drive a car with no MOT that had a hole in the o/s/f wing that you could comfortably fit a microwave oven through was probably not a good idea. Still, did have a decent curry in a deserted island curryhouse so that was something at least.
