  1. This is such a nice car! This is the kind of car to make me pop my riffle cherry. If I ACTUALLY needed a thirsty V6 petrol car. What I actually need is nice diesel van or estate that I could use rather than the works escort van I'm using now. And more so is it really worth the fact I'd lose a bollock from SHMBO. So, all in all it's about as sensible as shoving wasps up my arse.

    * one random please. *

Trust me, you will be far from alone. I need this as much as toothache - I bought another car last Sunday.

    You only live once!

  2. Thanks for the burst of interest folks. I should also say if you do win you're free to do whatever you want with it e.g. similar to some other roffles, if someone else wants to buy it you don't even have to fetch it. Although shifting it from here within a couple of weeks would be nice as I'll be swapping the insurance.

If I win I'll be beating a path to your door so I can give it a new home. :D

  3. I for one do not enjoy the sensory overload from modern car dashboards. When I had an office job which was a pretty horrible, oppressive experience, I had a Nissan company car (well, a Nissan press fleet car, but it did amount to the same thing in practice) but most of the time I commuted in my own 800 Sterling. Because what did I want after a day of staring at screens and having notifications pop up at me? Certainly not more of the same on my drive home, and I certainly didn't want that polluting the little snippet of time I had to myself in the drive in. I'd take the Rover's walnut dash and T-Series burble any day - probably made me old fashioned, but isn't that why most of us are here?

The place I wrote for very corporate and discouraged pretty much anything other than bland. On the eve of the day when I handed my notice in, I had to drive to Cromer to interview the CEO of a company that made curtain-side trailers. What I should have done was put my Fred and Florence suit on and drove across in the Nissan. Instead, as a big F.U to the Arsehole and Arsehole Media (and if I'm honest, the whole of society which I was feeling alienated and confused by) I took the Sterling and donned my blazer and chinos, and put on the most '90s tie that I owned, and departed from said CEO with a Gareth Cheeseman style handshake standing next to the Rover. It was worth taking the job just to be able to do that.

Back on topic: Mrs_Partridge, who works in design thinks that these iPads on dashboards are partly driven by ease of repair and ease of updating. It's probably much easier to whip out one of the iPad, than it is to faff about trying to take apart a modern car dash, with it's six thousand airbags and miles of wiring, should a speedo pack up or something else has a spazz fit. It's a hard enough job to do in a Peugeot 405, let alone a 2018 A-Class. I imagine modern digi dashes are more accurate, too. Probably a good thing in a country that has god knows how many average speed cameras waiting for you when you drive into work...

  4. 16v SXI apparently. I suspect it's actually not that slow for a Citroen....

Same engine as my old one, then. Even though it shared the same XU unit with my 405, which feels nippy, the Xant always felt sluggish in comparison. Obviously it had more weight to lug around due to the hydractive system, but I was suprised at just how much it blunted its performance.

  5. That's pretty fit. Contrary to FAKE NEWS stories about me, I don't hate these. I actually prefer the later Phase Ones with the cheese grater grills. Would make a GR13 tip run weapon and for general trolling modern car road users in (or for grating really big blocks of cheese with, at great speed as one hurtles around like an Arial Atom - LHM, YO!).

Not sure if it actually is a VSX, but it has the right alloys - so be prepared to wipe semen off it if you take it any kind of Xantia-molester event.

  6. Always wanted to try one of these 205s because I only ever hear folks race about them.amazing that they're still this cheap. I'm sure Partridge will ask you to scrap it though, even though it's a Peugeot

Christ man, what's your beef with me? Did I cut you up or something or steal your lunch money?

EDIT: OP, I'm aware this is in no way helping you sell the car, but at least you've had a free bump.

  7. I'm quite impressed i've make it to the rank of swilled eyed loon, I feel I've finally achieved at life :-D

Not including you in that remark, Dean. You were very un-swiveled eyed when I met you, but all I will say is that the Citroen Car Club didn't exactly cover itself with glory on Facebook over that Xantia of mine.

I offered it for free, and nobody wanted it, to the car club and on here. I even put out a post on its Facebook page saying anybody who wanted parts from it could come and help themselves.

When it was still on my drive two weeks later (and still dead), I broke the news that it was with André Citroën in automotive innovation heaven, and pitchforks were drawn.

To be honest the BLARG scene is just as bad, and don't even start me Rover 800 mouth foamers on AROnline.

And that's why I tend to just scrap worthless cars rather than re-home them these days.

Does it make me bitter? Yes. Does it make my life easier? Yes.

I just don't think me and Citroens (and the Citroen community) mix. It's a shame because I actually really like the cars, especially 90s stuff like the XM, Xantia and ZX.

Anyway, I'm glad the ZX is saved.

  8. Did anyone else "buy" them?

    I had a brief shot of SVXconglomerate's 605 diesel, they're a bit like a 406 but with pointy/wedgy styling. I like them.

Is this a PRV V6 then?

Not really. By the end of production they'd all but given up selling and marketing them in the UK. A lot of fleets were refusing to have them as well, thanks to epic depreciation and a pretty woeful reputation thanks to some flaky early cars. Shame, because they'd licked a lot of the quality niggles and gremlins by the time of the late phase twos.

I'm yet to drive his diesel, but I'm told it's gr13.

This is the PRV, yeah. We never got the ES9 here, which is a shame because I think the PRV is quite a nasty thing. Nice motor spoiled by a crap engine.
