A Stena line gb sticker, some speaker pods, a Dimma fuel cap, some Monroe static strips, Top gear anthems cassette, one of those kettles you plug in fag lighter, some 3 spoke alloys, some 'Cannon' rubber mats, escort cosworth vents, Ring spot lamps... God need I go on...

A lot of the cars that don't rot eg Renaults, Citroens etc just end up suffering done catastrophic failure of some other crucial part of the car.

I don't know what we are complaining about, in the 1980's it wouldn't be unknown for you to have a welding bill at 4 years old or an engine overhaul at 100k...

My brother had a mini 850 with OAKLEY written across the back window in the 90's. To even my junior years it just said 'Car thieves... I've spent loads of money on a stereo. PIONEER was a similar slogan. Never saw someone advertising Aiwa or Alba however...

If its a straight section, some jubilee clips, length of pipe over top and a shit load of glass fibre, I'd put something solid under the glass fibre to avoid the stuff falling in the tank.

Just depends, you've got to be not blind to what problems are coming up. Might sound daft putting a new clutch in a £500 car but if the rest of the car is good and a £300 job gets another 12 months out of it better the devil you know. You just have to know when to bail out if there's expense on the horizon that's going to be more than it would cost to buy an unknown new car. Example with the Fiesta we had, the floor had gone in several places including the bulkhead meaning it pissed water in. Cost to put this right would have been more than to replace the car, coupled with it needing 2 tyres and a few other odds and ends meant I sacked it off.

For bangernomics to work I'd have to buy something I fucking hated, something like an astra or corsa. Then again it probably wouldn't work because I'd grudge spending any money on it meaning it probably wouldn't last very long. The most important thing to do when buying old cars is don't buy shit fucked ones...

Great for looking in cylinder bores for evidence of HGF and also for contemplating for two weeks before finally putting it up your anus.

Most recent car I bought had a sheaf of bills from last 3 years - much more relevant than a couple of tax discs from 2003 and an oil change at 32,000 (car had done 114k)

I think it just depends, some people are very realistic as to what they are getting, others are part of the 'Don't get done get Dom' brigade, howling in outrage as the £600 Fiesta they bagged six months ago requires a track rod end or something.

So had he not undone the pinch bolt for the bottom joint? There is the problem. The hub needs to be able to move out slightly in order for the driveshaft to be knocked out. Get a replacement bolt though, I've had these shear on me before necessitating me to have to drill the bastard out.

Wouldn't worry about the cone, the 2 litre spring water bottles in morrisons are ideal in this respect.

Driven both, interior was well made but steering etc wasn't nearly as good as Mondeo. Those indicators are maddening! Why did they come up with them? Given the rest of the car is prone to all sorts of shit, they spent far too much time on this.

I understand the CDTI is prone to grief, chief amongst which was the EGR, Swirl thing, Water pump problems, given this is pretty crucial to the car working properly it obvious they didn't spend enough time looking at this.

Its one of the great arguments in our family, I'm a Ford man, my dad steadfastly refuses to accept Vauxhalls are cack, so I've had the argument a hundred times. But then it wouldn't do for us all to be the same. Anyway for the price I'd give it a go irrespective.

If you want a Peugeot Estate, buy a 405.
Everything else is dismal shit, unless it's a 203.
If wifey won't subscribe to anything without such death traps as ABS and airbag, tell her to fucking walk.

Is anyone on here looking for old car magazines, namely 1980s CAR magazines, old road tests, brochures from 1970s onwards. I ask as I'm in touch with a chap who has a veritable library of Car mags and brochures 1970s onwards, he's looking to sell them though it would be collection from Sheffield. He does have some seriously interesting stuff however.

If it was 2.5 hours of watching some bloke replacing the valve guides then nobody would watch it. I suppose the back story is its entertainment value. It does look a bit staged though, especially that Aston, the brake discs weren't even rusty. There's never a point where they are cutting off the sills and they realise its got the structural integrity of a sieve as is how it happens in real life.
