sierraman reacted to Peter C in 1987 Ford Sierra Sapphire 1.8L - Earning its keep - see page 28
UPS delivered a big brown box this afternoon.
I opened up the box and laid out all the bits on the garage floor.
All the elements are clearly labelled and one look at the instructions booklet was enough to understand how they fit together.
Within 40 minutes, with the help of my wife to lift the roof structure, I achieved this.
Ok, I haven't aligned and tightened up the ridge bracing, nor have I installed the eaves bracing, or the roof tarp, or fixed the structure into the ground but it's looking good so far.
The outdoor parking space outside the workshop will now be fully covered by the car port.
Weather permitting, I will finish the installation this evening.

I noticed this earlier, and it increased my enamourment with the model.

Provenance is surely everything with that, you could knock something up and claim it was a prototype and stick it in an auction.

Aldi RS6. Dealer. £500.
What were they doing? Tyre pressures and a screenwash top up?
I didn't think it was possible to have a car go into a dealer and it cost that little.

Got a recal on my 4 month old Fiesta, booked it in a dealer for repair and a free courtesy car to get me home (no other option they are on a out of town site) turned up and first thing they wanted was my credit card to pay £30 insurance on the courtesy car, pretty dolly bird didn't put me off telling them where to place it, walked out and used another dealer who collected and returned it to work.

Nothing huge to report (don’t speak so soon…) just replacing the pollen filter on the Focus, well worth it as the old one was clarted in crap, but what a cunt of a job. Then it started a mild misfire as you slow down, thinking coil but one of the wires had come loose where I’d previously crimped it years ago, 2 minutes with the crimpers and it was running like dream sir. Total spend including filter £4.71.

A 2006 Range Rover under the scrutiny of a JLR condition report… change the toner and load the printer up! 😂

It’s the sort of thing you could imagine a Columbian cocaine baron driving in Miami Vice.

That's awesome; looks like it would have done well going up against the 'Wild Honey' Austin or 'Glo-Worm' Capri on the hall carpet quarter-mile strip.
A good way to wring another couple of years' sales out of an older casting, I guess; though I dunno if the pearl-clutching Mary Whitehouse brigade would have approved of Corgi selling toys with 'Stripteaser' written down the side...

Going back in time to stillborn Corgi Catalogue entries, that enticed at the time (and perhaps still do)
The 1969 Corgi Catalogue showed a Corgi 507 Chrysler Imperial Bermuda Taxi that never went into production
At least one pre-production survives

This 1986 example one was imported to UK 2011. Currently on a SORN, last V5C issue was February this year. I hope it was someone on here.
All you need to worry about is sorting the matching outfit. Then drive it about Sheffield, like a star

You can see on the photos it’s was obviously a very clunky affair. Cost would probably have been a deciding factor.

As far as I know, the C257 Mercedes never made it into production. Like so many others shown in the 1985 catalogue, it appears to be a resin prototype.
I'd love to know whether its non-appearance was down to technical reasons (was the 'magic top' mechanism too easy to break? Unable to comply with new toy safety regs?) or financial reasons - the management buy-out of the Corgi factory from Mettoy's bankruptcy only the year before had left them fairly squeezed, so was it just a step too far to bring in another new casting, especially one which would require extra time and parts to manufacture?
The Toyota Supra and the Mercedes 207D panel van were both new for '85 castings, as were the Turbos range. The Supra didn't last long in the range, and the Turbos were brought in specifically to be cheap, simple volume sellers with good profit margin that could bridge the gap between the Juniors range and the bigger, more expensive 1/36 line-up.
I'd like to have seen the previewed Toyota Corolla TE71 in the Turbos range, rather than the AE86 which eventually appeared.

Gained a customer recently, she booked a 21 plate Aygo in for a clutch (!?!) because my quote was less than half the main dealers price - they'd just done the first mot, charged her £400 for front pads and a handbrake adjustment and told her it needs a clutch.
Found myself looking at a 7000 mile car with a very high pedal. Drove it and found the bite right at the top so... Looks like I found the only 2021 car where some shit can wind the manual cable adjustment up to con someone into getting a clutch job.
Set the adjustment to spec, checked pedal, charged her £40 and sent the clutch back.

I’d be wondering if he was financially in a position to run such a vehicle if it meant a £250 Labour charge would cause a problem.
