I find owning a set of corroded sealed beams strangely irresistible.

The whole point of SBs is that the reflectors can't corrode.

You are not the only ones. I usually ripped that newfangled tosh out of my P6es and reverted them to SBs so I could see something by night.
Knowing a thing or two about SBs due to yank OS, I went for Wagner halogens with uprated wattage, though, which makes all the difference.
I don't like asymmetrical dipped beam at all, because in the era of the cars I usually own, it was woefully shit. See Granada, 405, etc.
Not sure whether it ever became better, since I never owned a later car, but the real modernz I drove as hire cars had shit headlight altogether.
It's carefully designed to dazzle oncoming traffic, but do not much else.

The interior isn't that bad. Where else in the shiteosphere can you get this much US of A style luxury for just ten pounds?

Although up to 1986 cars were made and from then on only newfangled tosh, I suggest no age related separation at all, apart from the one we already have with the modernz section.
What I find important though is a separate for sale/wanted section and sections for people writing about their own cars and for general automotive chat. In short, I find the grouping suggestion the mods have made quite sensible.

So I realised now why I had no taillight. A fifth wire was noticed in broad daylight that I hadn't twisted together with the rest because I cut through it in the dark.

In order to maintain mobility while I wait for another ignition switch, I rummaged round my electronics box and found a switch that was sent in error from China (as it was meant to be an illuminated one for my fire-damaged parts washer). Double pole, but we can deal with that.

Then in testing I was a fanny and accidentally flashed the two uninsulated terminals off the handlebars. None of the fuses were blown. This might be a reason that it doesn't turn off when I switch it off. Or it might be because I've paired some of the ignition wires together because of lack of terminals on the switch. I care not and can't be arsed investigating as it turns off okay if I pull the load relief relay. It works without that relay, so I've just left the relay off.

I shall now go and spanner Mrs H's car which was chosen mainly because they don't need* spannering.

Picked up this "super gt" matchbox lotus recently, with an idea to try and combine it with a original Matchbox one.

I had this pink doorless one,so thought it may be a candidate.
So swapped the base, interior and glass from the original into the GT bodyshell.

LightBulbFun, I begin to understand your fascination with the devices failing at the speed of dark.
For decades, it was just a nuisance for me that I had to remove one light here and put another one there, just to make something even the septics grasp legal on another continent.

I'm baffled that I now am surrounded by dolts who can't tell a 7 inch sealed beam from a 7 1/4 one.

Mind you, I'm the one accused to be a smartarse when it comes to cars, not the ones that still have to learn what we already forgot.

Have I ever told you the story of setting off on a rubber cow from Munich?
Together with a bunch of likeminded, we were headed for Douglas, an 1,100 mile journey.
About 20 miles west of Munich, it started to rain. So we stopped underneath a bridge over the Autobahn and pulled out our rain overalls.
That's when I noticed that mine had a defect by means of the zip having come unsewn from the seat.
Turning back to have it mended by the then current female cohabitant was not an option, since we had already travelled 20 miles.
My balls were floating for the next 1,080 miles. Consequently a new term was coined, Grabensack - trench goolies.

27k of that is mine, bought in July 2016. I average about 10k a year presently. I used to do 36-80k miles a year as a courier.

We had a busy day. We have worked through a lot of the pre-MOT list and now have working washers and wipers, all the front lights and most of the rear lights.

There’s also a new steering wheel (used, but in better condition) and RH column stalk.

Couple more electrical gremlins to chase down and I’m on a mission first thing for brake parts as one of the rear cylinders has been leaking. Then it’s MOT time.
