Despite all this we are wasting Christ knows how much on HS2, a rail link so you can get to London 20 minutes quicker, by the time that’s built the cost of the tickets will be prohibitive. Here’s a thought, scrap HS2 and spend the money fixing to local rail network.
HS2 is the answer to a question nobody had asked.

Just had a visit from my grandparents who I've not seen since 2019 owing to distance and the plague. Grandad will be 89 this year so his memory's starting to get a bit shaky. I took him out in the P6 and he absolutely loved it - said it made his day. In his own words - "tremendous" - I wish I could have taken a picture of the grin on his face, it was a really special moment.
That's why I love this car. It puts smiles on faces. It's made someone's day - and in return, that's made mine.

Finally  an oily rag Oxford, which in spite of appearances will not need the attention of the Midland Red breakdown truck ☺

At times there was a disconnect between what the market wanted and what was developed-  I suspect issigonis thought that they didn’t know what was good for them whilst in the later years that he had a key role in directing product development.

Mazdashed passed its MOT today with no advisories. I am quite pleased delighted as it has been off the road for six months until today and there was a bit of rust on the discs, but it didn't seem to affect the brakes.

I am very happy with this site and the moderators. Just my opinion. Then again I don't make political points. I like to post and read about cars, that's all, and I think it works well for that.

The world as I see it has become a lot more politicised and polarised in recent years mainly due to Bre*it with all sides believing they are right in the real world this caused real friction so I for one see the need to try and keep things sensible here, everyone can bemoan "its not how it used to be" but the world isn't either, if many of these discussions had continued unabated we could have lost far more members than if politics had been allowed to pervade almost every thread.
I'm with @Ghostythe rest of my life is full of politics and its nice to come here for some respite from it, we have quite a number of members who appear to have issues with their mental health and if this is their place of solice then it only seems right that agro and disputes are kept to a minimum..
I've met and spent time with at least three of the moderators and to me at least they appear to be some of the most considered, courteous,  friendly people I've ever met.  To be honest I've no idea why they would put themselves in the firing line for such vitriol from some around here, I for one certainly would never consider putting myself in the firing line.
    As you were...

    Remember this mess?

Well yesterday, in need of something to stop me getting under the wife’s feet I set out determined to get a door in the right colour. 150 miles round trip with the trailer and £30 later I obtained this.

Very straightforward to fit. Took about 20 minutes.

I’ve also had 4 new Vredestein all season tyres. The reduction in noise is a huge improvement and they seem nice and grippy.

Wow, what an amazing co-incidence ? I bought the car in 1986ish as a weekend toy and it was more fun to drive than anything else I have owned (with the possible exception of a 1973 96V4 ) I kept it for about 7-8 years then reluctantly sold it to another Saab Club member when I changed jobs and realised that I wouldn't have the time to lavish the care on it that it deserved. I did have a significant birthday at the time I owned it and my wife commissioned a portrait of it (with me at the wheel ) from a friend who was a leading marine and wildlife artist, and it still hangs on my study/spare bedroom wall.

No dishonourable mention for the Hyundai Pony yet?  A mate inherited one when his old man died, I understand that he and his brother tossed a coin for it, and he lost  It was one of the later ones and getting on a bit although it had only done a few miles, so goodness knows what the earlier ones were like,  as it was an absolute POS with no redeeming features at all. In fact he was quite relieved when it shat its  auto gearbox and he couldn't find another one, so was able to scrap it with a clean conscience

Perhaps I can add a bit more on the history of KOW 296 P.  I bought it in 1986 from Regal Motors (Peugeot dealers in Bilston, and still going strong) It was up for £385 in their 'Bargain Basement' but as it wouldn't stay in 3rd gear  on the test drive they reduced it to £285  (they probably wanted shot of it )so of course I snapped it up. I was living in Walsall at the time, not far from Highgate Garage who did one or two jobs on it,  so I may be the owner referred to in artdjones's post I , especially as i didn't do that many miles in that time, as life tended to get in the way.  I'm pretty sure that I sold it in about 1993, but it may have been a little while later.  I sold it directly to Bill Faulkner, who I thought was living in south Birmingham at the time, but not for anything like £820 .  However he worked for Saab GB when they first imported 96 two-strokes in 1960 and were based in Marlow so he could well have lived in Sonning  at some time and I'm certain he knew Chris Partington, they were both well-known in Saab circles.
I think that Graham Macdonald bought the Saab 93 from the Patrick Collection whwn it closed down, if so I might have met him a couple of times at Saab Club events, but not to know him. Interesting how much of the history of an ordinary and unknown car  and its links to people can emerge from just a random thread on AS, but then I suppose that's a thing with early Saabs, they've always been an enthusiasts car

Here is a rather poor photo of it captured in an earlier existence.  Mike, who sadly died early last year, did a very good likeness of it and the number plates definitely had a black border. Serck? The person I sold it to was an ex Saab engineer who bought it as retirement project, but was going to have some of the work done professionally so perhaps thats where the Graham Mac Donald connection and possibly the current number plates came in.

Can’t agree there, look at the interest we get in our Capri’s, or Eddy’s yank tank, or the Lanchester. We are a broad church on here and long may that continue. But we can’t all like everything, no harm in that either as long as people are polite.
