beko1987 got a reaction from Six-cylinder in Six Cylinders Motoring Notes - Saying goodbye to a fleet member!
Oooh that's good then, would it be worth removing it all, cleaning and putting it in the container?
Would the bolts even need undoing it would Charlie just be able to lift the seats out runners and all😂

As an utter Mini licker this looks like my idea of fun!
The front end looks pretty solid despite the colander in the rear. I would put money on the scuttle closing panels being non-existent despite the solid scuttle though. Looks like its going to need the waist rail as well as the rear quarter panel on the passenger side.
M-Machine in Darlington is a great source for panels. Good prices and good quality panels http://preview.m-machine.co.uk/
Id be happy to tinker at a FoD event!

I have had a peak under those seat covers and I am hopeful the luxury Mayfair Raschelle upholstery can be saved.
The headlining needs antibac as well.
I need to get the seats out as soon as possible as there is no drivers door and side window. They will have to come out for the welding anyway.

The Past!
The Dream!
The Reality!
Mrs6C said don’t do it, but I gave into peer pressure and bought a black 1984 Austin Mini Mayfair.
The trouble is that it is a project that needs a lot of welding and as yet I have no idea if the engine and gearbox are any good. As it has not been on the road for 24 years I have to assume the brakes and exhaust will need attention and the interior has been exposed to the weather.
Yes this car is a full restoration project and I said no more projects. If you can spare a few working brain cells please put them in a jam jar and send them to me!
Now what, first off is to see if I can get it started which I am looking forward too.

Read that earlier, such a shame. He was a wonderful guy, messaged me alot when I had my xm 😥 was practically begging people to come take the spares he had over the last few months too so they went to a good home

Some dreadful news from the classic Citroen community
Paul was a nice bloke, generous with his time, knowledge and spare parts and a big reason a huge amount of XMs and Xantias are still on the road

I managed to change the bulb in the mondeo that had defeated me a couple of weeks ago.
While I was there I remembered one of the screws was mullered on the airbox - it was imposdible to extract the air filter without removing it.
So I got my drill out -
The rest came out with a pair of end snips -

My plan worked, unbelievably. Propping the car up about 6" higher gave me room to get the big ugga dugga under the car, and with a couple of extensions I was able to undo the turbo to manifold nuts which are generally tighter than a council pothole budget.
I can't help but think it's no coincidence that I was able to route the extensions through the only gap in the underbody between the subframe and gearbox. I get the feeling Toyota takes servicing pretty seriously. I mean this isn't an easy job (it's still not finished) but you can see where provision has been made for tool access.
I've still got to undo some coolant hoses that pass over the top of the turbo. I think this is a bit of a bodge by Toyota, on some models the turbo is water cooled but not on mine, so a bypass is routed over the top of it.
I think I'll lose a bit of coolant but it's quite high up so hopefully not loads.
I would have done it this afternoon but the gusty wind was really pissing me off.

to answer a few Q's. it will be a daily use vehicle, mainly short <5 miles journeys, with weekend coastal jaunts. Mainly with me on my own.
it would have to live outside, due to living in a high rise
30mpg round town would be nice (bini is doing about that and 55 on a run)
Eco boost erm No ta sis has just had to have hers rebuilt...luckily under warranty and ex wifes focus eco is on its 2nd engine..
quite like the 1 series but seeing how many are spears or reapers has put me off..
RE my R56 its now running as well as it can after spending almost 2k on it, so may be a possibility of keeping the bini and throwing some new suspension & wheels at it, also updating the sound system and brakes

I'd buy a £2.5/3k car that's had a clutch and the belts done once and spend the remaining grand on any little bits it needs, tyres maybe and a good service.

i popped in to see my mam on the way to work on monday, the stupid bini refused to start when i left so i had to borrow her astra
it was pouring down yesterday so i only had a brief look, i tried the second key - nothing, i hooked up jump leads - nothing, i gave it a stern look - nothing. so i gave up and borrowed the astra again.
then it occurred to me that i may have breakdown cover on my insurance ?
nice one - even if it’s fucked, i can get it towed home to work on.
i rang the number which sent me a text with a weblink to a form to report my breakdown. sounds rather convoluted but it worked well.
expecting a bit of a wait, i put the kettle on and was pleased to see a message forecasting attendance in approx two hours. so i cancelled the coffee and headed down to me mams house to wait there instead. 5 mins later the phone is ringing and the rac guy will be with me in 10 mins.
rightly enough, he turned up promptly, stuck his mega jump leads on and pronounced the starter motor dead. he moved his van then gave me a shove down the street and i bump started it in reverse
you can’t fault service like that - well done, the rac !
i nervously drove it up to scaryoldcortinas place, desperately trying not to stall. as he had just finished doing the mot on the mx5 we swapped over and he will sort the bini in the morning.

Enquired about 2 birds needing rescuing yesterday
Off to see them tomorrow after work 🥰🥰
It ticked some boxes, the house is so lonely and quiet without Phoenix and the outside cage will soon start to fall apart if I just ignore it another 6 months. Did (and do still) fancy a pair of white doves, but the advert above got Wafted my way and budgies were on the list!
A pair was key as I did feel phoenix wasn't terribly happy on his own, and 2 females which is good as 2 males can fight as they age, and 1 of each will be eggs and babies and I don't want that.
The lady at the service said if I like them tomorrow bring something to get them home in so I've taken that as a sign to reassemble the cage after sloshing a small bit of rust converter here and there right at the bottom
And realised I can fit 4 wheels from a scrap hoover base mega easily so it won't be such a massive wanker to drag out for cleaning (which I didn't do as often as I should...)

Today I swung in by Duncans workshop to have a discussion on the way forward with the kingpin on REV, He has it fully disassembled and we measured everything and came to the conclusion that it is worn! By kingpin standards not badly worn, enough to probably induce a speed* wobble but nothing dagerous. Fortunately the housing for the bushes is showing no wear at all, so the new kingpin and bushes should be an easy fit and solve the problem. The bushes do in fact appear to be oilite type, and the bottom of the kingpin tube is open into the front drum, which explains why no grease nipples are fitted. In the bottom of the tube was a ball of rock hard grease that had obviously been put in many many years ago. Dunc has also spoken to a few of the old boys who tend to congregate at interesting workshops, including the fella who maintained the 1920s bus in Aberdeen which used a similar, if somewhat larger, kingpin assembly.
The unanimous decision is to leave things as original and reassemble with a good coating of heavy weight oil. After all, it was good enough for the government for the lifetimes of these vehicles. He will hopefully start putting it back together later this week.
We started discussing speed wobbles, as you do and we decided to see if we could improve the aerodynamics of REV
The first attempt using Seat parts was not great
So we looked around and found a yellow and white body kit on an old Audi in the corner which we think will work better!

Yeah it’s been satisfying tbh. I think it’s just needed a bit of TLC re this stuff so I’ve clearly got it when it all needs doing.
mine doesn’t leak on the manifold I think it’s leaking more behind itself. I checked the oil cooler too as I know they are common but I think it’s ok. I can get a new kit for £30 from Neo Bros so it’s not the end of the world to farm it out when it does present itself eventually.
