Six Cylinders Motoring Notes - Saying goodbye to a fleet member!
beko1987 replied to Six-cylinder's topic in AutoShite
Your not fixing them fast enough whilst also creating a full compatible parts list whilst correcting decades old parts databases at the same time. I hope your making him a nice spreadsheet of all the parts his cars require as you go? π€£ -

Could cut the ends off and fill the cylinder with railway sleepers? π€ -
Bet that's an interesting gap in the mot history π Last known test - as a clapped out shit heap 2022 test - as a better than factory brand new car π
-
Probably not, no... I like the idea of one then, but a 1.4pez would probably do me fine!

I've done a few inner steering boots and rhe biggest twat is the clip to hold it all on. Used big cable ties before but the cars have all been worthless so ymmv. Keep everything straight though. I got cocky doing the blue laguna and turned the rack to full lock to push out the side I was working on... Got 20 yards up the road and the esp went mental, then the dash went mental π Took another 2 hours of straightening everything out to get it drivable then I got it tracked and they laughed some more... Actual job was alright though. Oily and messy but OK. Can't you superglue and tigerseal the old boot back together?
-
Hope they change the sheets after lbf & bl bloke are in it all weekend π
-
We could try and sneak one of the FoD mopeds in the car once one's been got going again? π @hairnet can give you a lift then
-
Studying rhe route more closely it does seem to be stay on the m40 then a40 then a50whatever until I'm 2 turns from your flat. So not too tricky, just busy. Equally the a1 then m1 is close to you, and we can come back home via Aylesbury easily. Game on! However I can't promise no one will throw something heavy at you if you talk about nothing but invacars the entire weekend... On your own there, I'll take back what remains on Sunday
-
The drive daunts the shit out of me tbh but once I'm in the car and going ill be fine π Yes 2 nights at shitefest. Picking you up Thursday enables us to relax, chill and pack the car Thurs afternoon, and then we can leave Friday morning! Ditto Sunday, I might be not tired enough to drive you straight home, but if not we have a plan B! Alot depends on the traffic tbh, Thursday late morning traffic sounds better than Friday, ditto Sunday evening, but if not Monday morning will be fine I'm sure!

Shame your not insured as it wouldn't probably be more fortuitous to just set fire to that entire pile there then claim you don't know how it started... I'm starting to come round to the idea of maybe camping over now. -
That's the best shape of Astra in my opinion, lovely interiors too, when Vauxhalls used to be comfy. nice car Mistah! I'd happily run a 1.7d one of those about but I guess finding one that doesn't need welding is becoming harder nowadays?

I did my first cambelt change on a Meriva outside on the road in the drizzle under the parasol π Was a bit grim but I've seen tales of worse conditions on here so I accepted it at the time. Car ran fine even with slightly damp timing components π (I rinsed it all down with brake cleaner just before putting the cover back on iirc)

@davidfowler2000 laughs at the shortcut the driver had that wasn't there last time... π -
Even with all the work and money and etc an mot'd xm with some work done even if it needs a cambelt will probably not see you a huge loss... Cambelt won't be that hard either, and well documented. Andyrew would probably do a decent price on the parts. I'd almost say I'd give you a hand but your far away and I've never done a belt on this engine before. Access will be a twat though π

Oooh can we sit in it on Saturday? Or is it full already? What you need is a big bit of tarp fixed right across the side then some posts in the ground 5ft away... @hairnetcan stand in the middle and push it up occasionally if it rains -
Outstanding! When do you have to take it back to the dealer for its running in service? Shitefest?
-
Re your home brew feed to the stop solenoid, I'd make that a bit more permanent. My old zx 1.9td had similar, a little switch buried up behind the dash. Flick it off and the glow plugs got no power. Flick it on and normal service. Previous owner worked in london alot and left it off when parked up! Hook it up to a little nicer switch somewhere, hide it and keep it for an anti theft deterrant/shit your mates up when they ask to have a drive of THE MAGNIFICENCE one day etc And you can say you fixed a thing π

I still keep a 1080 in portrait mode for outlook and etc. Needs barely a glance to see what's there. Bar that like you I just resize to what's good (long thin windows are amazing) You tried the fancy zones program that's within windows power toys? That's handy
-
It's great isn't it! You don't need one big window, just many tiny small ones all massive! Going into the office sucks as my programs open at their last size. So what was a small sensible window showing all of the content on my 4k screen suddenly spans across 2 1080 screens and vanishes into nowhere π Then when I'm back at home everything's tiny
-
Isn't this just average Maestro ownership life though? π I can see you accidentally fully rebuilding the entire seats because once you get them out of the car and set up upside down your skills will just take over.
-
I've had the road outside my house looking like that before though π€ And that's been fairly recently π Does that make me working class now?
