I don't trust my fuel needle for shit, and doing 50 mile round trips to work I've never dared try 😂 My friend used to run his hyundai i40 to 0 then do another 100ish miles though, many mornings we'd be smashing down lane 3 of the m40 with it showing 0 and been showing that since he picked he up 10 miles back! Guess you've got to do it to trust it...

Ah! Maybe, I'm going in blind here! Need to read up on the engine and see what pipes go where, might find a Haynes that covers it and the year. Someone on the fb group agrees with me that it's probably some pipe sucking itself flat somewhere waiting to split though. Was hoping it might be that one, it's not too tricky to access 😂

Whatever, the cable tie that was there was working fine so I simply replaced it with a new one with just a bit less slack built into it's placement Then a good coating of lithium spray grease on the latch Bonnet has never worked so well 😂 Closes with the lightest of drops with a nice quiet thunk from the latch. Pulling the lever inside the car the bonnet now pops up a tiny bit whereas before it didn't and you just got used to sliding your fingers under the gap onto the lever. Sprayed the same grease over all the door check straps and hinges too, although not too much so it gathers grime. Ill call that good enough, got one job done and I think I'll go find some hoses and at least call it preventative maintenance. Anyone know wtf their called? 2.0 hdi 110

I cleaned it off and flushed so much grit out with some small brushes I have (and scrubbed the bit you push to open the bonnet so I don't get filthy fingers topping off screenwash 👌) This revealed a structural cable tie I've no idea what the end of the cable is supposed to look like but I assume part of it is snapped?

Still at nill-nill on the day I remembered another annoyance, the bonnet latch. It's always been mushy and a bit meh to open, but more alarmingly recently it's been a sod to latch shut. As I was working on the above I fired some brake clean at it, and 5minutes later it had shit itself Noting the trim piece covering it only had 2 fixings left and I've got a whole box of those I took it off and found a disgusting lump of shite Bonnet cable looks happy m8

I'd bought a tin of brake clean during the week, and went outside to have a look at some rubber pipes. It's been mostly fine but did loose the turbo twice during a 400 mile trip I did last Saturday... Again on and off the throttle (changing up a gear in reality but I think it's coming off and on the throttle that's doing it) fixes it and that's that! Cleaned off the weeping from the bottom intercooler hose and my eyes are sure they see a straight line running from the edge of the hose and up a bit. Not the circular line of the last layer of hose, it's not really clear on the photo. Gave it all a good squeeze and nothing was immediately apparent. Next was this hose coming off the back of the engine and running down the side of the block. I've read about this on a few forum threads. It's rock hard at the top, then goes very soft and squishy as it passes past the cambelt covers and goes to whatever metal thing I felt it clamp to. Engine was stone cold. Didnt fancy removing pipes right now, they all feel 'old' and am sure will fuck up as I remove them and not seat properly when I refit. Going to see how much new hoses are and maybe treat it to them as a mild parts cannon guess. I did notice the bracket that holds all the vacuum things in place only had 1 nut... I'm lacking any suitable nuts to use (what size would this use? Wouldn't hurt to get an assorted sized set as I've found this alot as I work on it 😂). In leiu of anything proper some cable ties snugged it down well enough

I'm a good boy! (and the pihole doing its thing like a champ so all it's really got to go on are things I've actually looked at or the bare generic stuff Google will offer up anyway 👌)

Tried furniture Polish on the seat belt? Extend it all the way and coat the belt near the bottom and roll it in and out a few times. Bonus points for having the B pillar trim off and getting some lube directly to it. Had this in a zx and doing that and cleaning the belts helped alot, was alot better at retracting and being a seat belt in general! Not a bad list though, a fair few things ignorable, the rest curable with some parts sniping and a sunny weekend👌

Good to know, thanks! I've been more drawn towards the higher milage ones anyway, and ones with a few dings and dents! There seems to be lots off all engine flavours, I was gravitating towards the 2.0, not sure about auto or manual yet, probably manual. But if the 1.5 isn't bad... It'll get an oil change once a year and probably over serviced for the miles I do like the Xsara 😂 DPF should hopefully be OK as I do a mix of driving. But I got a can of brake clean yesterday and am going to take a closer look at the intercooler pipes tomorrow, I don't hate the car, and don't have the money to replace it atm and it's not broken*, but good to look around! Shall keep reading about. Did see a nice dark purple one in Tesco earlier and they don't look huge. No longer than the Xsara and I do like a big car to throw the kids in and not give a crap, it needs to be a portable den at the FoD and carry the tent. Being higher up and having modern headlights I might not struggle so much at night too Once my mates stag do is done I might keep the savings pot going I've had for the last 6 months for that and rename it car

I vote for neatly extending some wires out of the casing and refitting that then a short length of slack and some neat connections back to the rest of the loom, either crimps to test then solder or find a fancy suitable plug?

I spent some time last night perusing used Nissan Quasquais of the diesel manual flavour and wondering if a cheap one would make a nice car that I could afford to run. It might, but then I started researching my hdi's issues and have some pointers to look at, so decided maybe another day. The only thing my bloody Facebook is full of this morning is adverts for Nissans! It's the only place I get served ads as the pihole blocks the rest, might turn it off for a laugh and see what comes up in the browser! Would a £15/1700 quasquai make a good big an car? Need some space for when I've got the kids and I don't want anything I need to be precious about but it needs to be economical and reliable. Saw some pics of the instrument cluster showing between 45 and 52mpg though which I could take Feel a bit sick for even thinking of a quasquai but they seem to be ageing well and now their not the motability open legged scum mum vehicle of choice (same with the juke but I think that's be too small) and I don't see thousands of them being driven badly everywhere their not so bad...

I had a bakery job once. Was quite young so didn't appreciate it as much but it was good. Friendly customers, place always smelt nice, could make your own massive sandwiches at lunchtime for free.
