  1. Tweaked timing and checked plugs tonight. That looks reet.
  2. Washed the car quickly. Chocolate malt. It's Thursday!
  3. There does appear to be very little damage, overall. Seeing the paint made me stop and look at the colors again, too. I like the dark purple. I prefer the light purple but I know the car will get the nickname "Barney" if I paint it in that. Quite the dilemma. It also looks stupid on short radial tires. Phil
  4. A little. But the correct repair is crappy roofing metal and pop rivets.
  5. Yeah, they rot out from underneath. The paint was holding it together.
  6. Yeah, people hang on to their 60's Yard Boy machines for that reason here, too.
  7. I put a new silencer on it last year. It rusted out and fell off. Much like the engine. Pity, it is a willing little thing. Also more better I got the mower for free about 6 years ago. It owes me very little. Shame the humidity here kills steel.
  8. Cleared the roof from my neighbor's yard, mowed the grass. Hull integrity is at 18% captain! Had to hold the engine on with a piece of 1x4 wood... Phil
  9. Invisible* repair. Just needs a light skim of filler to take up the ripples. Still needs work but it's in a really quite awkward place to work on. Better than it was, at least. Phil
  10. Out and about today. Brought the kids to the park to go rollerskate. It's nice to be out and about again. Car behaved almost flawlessly, which was a pleasant surprise. Phil

  12. Cleared a bit more tonight. Found my panel beating hammers at least. The side of the car it all landed against. The door still opens and closes with one finger. There was a 15' piece of triangulated roof beam slotted neatly between the car and the workbench. Doesn't appear to have touched it. Quite bizarre.
  13. 28C, heat index 32 and blazing hot sun. Proper heatstroke weather. So, mad dogs and Englishmen occurred. Continued to extract the car. First decent look- it got a grande dent in the door and front wing. Dink in the roof is less bad than I thought it would be. Verdict: not so bad
  14. Correct, that's a Fuel Crisis car, designed to run on 87 (R+M)/2, which is roughly equivalent as @SiC said to 91 over there. Put the cheapest fuel you can in, you can give it a bit more timing with E10 but just watch because it likes to vapor lock more; it certainly doesn't need super, unless that's E0 which will help in standing traffic. Phil
  15. Checked and gapped plugs. Cleaned and gapped points. New coil, new condenser. Running very much better, the old coil crapped out this morning. Phil
  16. Yeah it's called "driveway"
  17. I have a sadness over the lack of garage now.
  18. Quick tune-up session tonight. Out with the half inch spanner, the distributor got a tweak here and there, and a drive about between each tweak. Settled on a few degrees advanced from stock, the exhaust note is now quite bassy and has a thrum at 2000 rpm. At 45 it'll hold 15-17"Hg which is quite impressive for this engine. Think I've got it dialed in right. Phil
  19. On a long run, probably in the low to mid teens. Which ain't bad at all, considering.
  20. Lay's (US version of Walker's) recently started putting the year in the sell-by after people complained. They're the kind of thing that sit on the shelf for a good while and don't get rotated because rotating bags of crisps is a pain. However, the refrigerated stuff should be handled correctly- they have everything in place to keep it cool every step of the journey. That's most likely the 3am staff not giving a hoot, sadly. Something something pay rise (though the argument stands that they'd be getting more money and still not giving a damn)
  21. Weather cleared after working on the car earlier a freak gust of wind lifted the hood up and tried to close it on my head. Cleaned up the gauze screen, repositioned everything accurately and reassembled the pump. The cork gasket had squashed down a touch and was leaking. Stuck it back in the car and tightened it down. Running, with the boost pump on. No leaks now from either the pump or the carb. Set the idle mix and ignition timing. It idles low in gear if you set it right. Test drive shows better, but timing needs a slight tweak advanced, I think. Phil
  22. I also appear to have a slight* fuel leak. Waisting on it to cool down, because I was driving and it began to stutter and run hot (weak mix). Pulling the boost pump on made it stink of fuel. Seal on the bowl is not sealing. Phil
  23. Just keep it away from the bath. It doesn't need any agitation to work. The bath is for final clean down. Phil
