If those little hardback Motor Car books are still about - and cheap - they are worth picking up for the great illustrations of often unusual vehicles.   Early "partworks" they were issued both for sale through book sellers but also printed up for Spar groceries and Sunday Times etc to sell.   They date to around the 1959/61 period.    I have a full set somewhere but didn't find them last time I looked....!

Plus one on the new format from me too.   I've had a long, hard day and used to unwind a bit on here, now it seems to be having an opposite effect.    I have to squint at my posts, the pictures seem to go where they like and frankly there isn't the interaction there used to be.    Might just find summat else to do for a bit.

So... what you're saying is, I really should have taken a punt on this one for £2... daah!

Even more annoying since I bought most of the rest here the following week off Market Blokey (the Hatra earthmover's now with you; the blue bin lorry and ERF horsebox with Egg; and I still have the Ford bin lorry).
    Some you win...

I'm not as good as some at 'restorations', but here's one I've just finished. A Husky VW pickup in some weird scale - maybe 00?
As I got it. Rear suspension was snapped. I did consider breaking the front too, as that is 'scene' for VWs, but thought better of it.

Instead I created a new rear axle carrier out of pieces of Lego.

Here is the completed truck. Not too bad for freehand brush work if I do say so myself.

Chod through the ages. I'm sure the the S type is future shite if it's not already. It belongs to Martin who owns the shop behind.

Look at this beauty. Not been on the road since the 1960s.
Breathe in and take a whiff of this interior. Lovely. Take a minute to check out the pics, it's gorgeous just as it is. 85000 miles on it too so it's served someone well.

That's a shame. Good to have a decent-ish outcome, but seems ridiculous all the same.

Various things to report on the older members of my fleet:
Laurel took part in the Ipswich-Felixstowe Run yesterday. Took a rural journey there and back which was equally enjoyable.
1988 Sunny has a new MoT, after an initial failure on front brake imbalance. Needed a couple of new hoses. Must get a set of new tyres to replace the ancient Vredesteins, and attempt a better repainting job on the wheels before FOTU. Sadly there's already evidence of some of rot still doing its thing behind last year's bodywork repairs, inevitable without it being properly cut out and replaced I suppose.
Old Sunny dropped into garage for an MoT-type checkover, even though it's now exempt. I know it has significant bodywork issues, but it's so charming to drive hopefully I can keep it going for as long as possible.
Camry on SORN after its last MoT expired. Not so much need for it now generally better weather is here and I can use the others more often, and I could do without spending any more money at present.

Also, not mine but there is news on this thing. It's no longer here, MrBo11ox luckily found a really sound guy down South who bought it for parts for his RX-4 saloon restoration. It seemed that DVLA weren't going to play ball with reversing the Certificate of Destruction so this was the best possible outcome.

Yeah, it's that sort of a show. My aim with the Retro Japanese stand has always been to show that there's plenty more to Japanese motors.
Not that I'm completely immune to a bit of silliness...

That's a link to a Facebook image, rather than Twitter, so possibly more visible (until it breaks).

Just another thing worth checking on these......There is a parking light switch (on the left hand bank of switches - it should be a toggle switch nearest the steering column.    Not only does this switch off nearside sidelights (when the side light switch is ON) it also helpfully cuts current to the starter solenoid.    Wonder if its gone open-circuit - mine did.     I am also of the opinion that replacement of all the usual culprits in one go could have introduced another problem - new gear is poor quality compared to what it was in the 60s/70s.    In my experience of Accuspark and the like they never fail intermittently, only in one go.   Last time my Minor broke down the AA bloke was adamant it was the electronic ignition, I was not having it because it ran intermittently before stopping completely.   He persevered and found a loose connection (one of mine!)  in the LT circuit - worth checking all through here as well.....  Good luck, nothing worse than having a dream motor giving you grief!
