  1. Ditto. Though it prob won't happen (I have no resolve).
  2. Many thanks for sharing that, it's invaluable (albeit it seems to limit to five look-ups a day). A Christmas gift indeed. I've now discovered that my Merc has had no less than six previous plate transfers. It may soon get a seventh cos I'm a nerd and this info makes me feel less guilty about changing originality.
  3. Now on an ageing Merc last MOT'd in 2010 apparently. (Yes I actually bothered to look it up. I need to get a life).
  4. Wow, just wow. I love it! Excellent buy. Quite the collection you've got there too. I'm in awe, sir. I've had no dealings with the "grumpy man" but you describe him just as I envisage him. You can tell from his ads that he doesn't suffer fools. Looking forward to more about the Austin. I often wonder when I look at ads what kind of home the car will end up in. This one's obviously found a good one.
  5. I think we can all identify with that! Or the even worse "My cars are all pissing me off for various reasons. Gotta do something about it. I know, I'll buy another one (without selling anything of course)".
  6. Holy thread resurrection! Interesting variety of fonts. Out of interest (ok, nosiness) can I ask where you've hung those as they look like they're indoors. I've had a similar idea but have resisted doing so as I've got enough signs, model cabinets and other random crap about the place already. I see you've got one for Mr LBF there! And what is QP 9725? I don't see how that's possible? I actually own several private plates relating to my name/initials or car types that I've owned, that I've bought mainly from DVLA over the years, though only a couple of them are actually on vehicles at present.
  7. Yes that is a shame. It's not a million miles from me either and I last went there many years ago. It was a good day out and in a nice setting. I didn't see the Stimson there though but that's unsurprising as I think most of the exhibits were on loan from individuals so liable to change. Yet another reminder of how precarious these smaller museums seem to be and once anything happens to the individual or family behind them, then they just close. Quite a few in the south east alone have closed over the last twenty years or so.
  8. Ah the memories of good old Hot Car mag! What museum is that in?
  9. I do feel terribly guilty about the cars I have to leave outside. I bought a cover for my MX5 last winter but it wasn't a great success. As others have said it tends to come off in the wind no matter how much you think you've anchored it and drags itself across the paintwork. It's also a massive faff to take on and off, again trying to be careful as you do so. In any case after standing for a while with it on I discovered that the interior had gone musty and mouldy. The other thing that does a car no favours of course is parking on grass. I agree the main thing is simply to avoid salty and mucky roads.
  10. Yeh bloody typical. Why does that always happen. Just like when you stop in the middle of nowhere for a much needed slash😁. Btw I'm old enough to remember when those BRS vans were everywhere, especially in the vicinity of railway stations. I remember those big old GPO Morris Commercial vans too.
  11. Many thanks for fulfilling my requests and for all the pics which must've taken ages to upload and so soon too. Everything I could ask for including....I don't believe it!..a Standard Companion!
  12. Evidently the price as a passing bird has made an appropriate comment :-0
  13. That's jolly decent of you. Thanks for the pics so far. Makes me feel like I'm there. Personally I'd like Skoda and any other East European stuff, MX5 (yes I know yawn boring), Wolseley esp 1500 (thanks for the Riley btw, it's lovely), Merc. Ta.
  14. When I worked for an international company way back when, part of my job was maintaining records of the worldwide car fleet. Most of the staff in Brazil had Gols. I assumed this was an error and added an f to every record. I got told off for wasting time. Luckily I didn't change the many Ambassadors in India to Austins.
  15. Ev Escort with one of those annoying mis-spaced plates that I mentioned in the other thread. Is that supposed to mean something? Am I being thick because it means nothing to me. Wrong plate colour for the year is annoying too. Grump grump.
  16. Ah thanks. What a shame. Makes me feel better as during the odd three seconds today when it stopped raining I wondered whether I'd wimped out. Thanks for the pics.
  17. What a shame. I had been planning to go but thought better of it. So did many others by the look of it. Cudos to the drivers of the rag top Bonds in today's weather. I feel sorry for the participants and organisers.
  18. That's great. I normally hate illegal spacing because it usually makes something unintelligible but that's just brilliant. I'm guessing that's Staplefield? I was planning to go there today but thought better of it with the weather. Is there the usual assortment of interesting vehicles or have people stayed away? I feel sorry for the participants in this deluge.
  19. Blimey, it is too! Reason alone for a visit
  20. Ah brilliant, thanks. Don't know how I've managed to miss this. Looks fab. I want to live in that bungalow! I'm heading in that direction next year so will put a day aside for it. My only slight worry is (as implied in the thread) like the Moretonhampstead one it has the look of a place that might close its doors for good at any minute and its collection be auctioned off. Hope I'm wrong but I'm glad that thanks to good old AS I got to see the Hammond microcar collection before its recent closure.
  21. Oof indeed. Thanks for posting. I've just fallen in love with everything there. Where is this please? Googling Atwell Calne brings nothing. I MUST put it on my must go to list. It puts me in mind of the Moretonhampstead museum in Devon which is also a must see if you're down that way.
  22. I don't think the black one is a 135. I think the badge on the left may be an Owners' Club badge. The right hand badge I think says 136. I've never seen a 135 in black, which was offered as an extra cost option on the 136 (not sure about the 135). I owned a Regal Red 135 like the one pictured for many years from almost new. It was the best driving of all the many rear engined Skodas I've owned and never gave any trouble, despite the horror stories about the lashed-up (Bendix) injection system. I guess I was just lucky.
  23. And yet there was a period in the 70s when nearly every issue of Exchange and Mart would have two or three listed for sale. I remember this because at the time as a student I was looking for a cheap 2CV (yes there were plenty of such things back then) and didn't know what a Bijou was. Maybe the 210 sold had reached the end of their economical lives and owners were just offloading them. Btw I never bought a 2CV but bought a Beetle instead.
  24. Nice to see so many fine old commercials. And car of the show for me is that beige Landcrab with period goodies.
  25. Thanks for posting. I missed this as I went to the Bexhill one instead. But thanks to your many pix I feel like I was at Folkestone too. That yellow Zed at the top was for sale at a dealer a short while ago. Glad it's found a home. The Fiat should be in the "cars I never knew existed" thread. And wow...a Harrington Alpine!
