  1. For this reason I no longer buy nor sell privately. I either trade in to a dealer or send to auction. Hardly the way to get the best price I know, but I'd rather cut my losses than deal with twats.
  2. Not quite sure how VAT on £5 million comes to £4.17😁
  3. Likewise. I see that Chevette Estate is still being shown in that sorry state and appears to have been joined by an incomplete HA van.
  4. Funny you should say that. This car was for sale at a West Sussex dealer a couple of years ago and they made a thing in their ad about 284 mph being the speed the Koenigsegg Agera RS topped out at when making its record breaking bid for being the world's fastest production car (277.9 mph average of two runs). Quite how this was relevant to a lowly Mazda I've no idea. I did actually um and err about buying this Mazda as I thought an MX3 would make an interesting contrast to my MX5's. It's 1.6 auto rather than the full fat V6 though. I later saw it at a car show and chatted to the new owner who seemed very happy with it.
  5. What a dilemma, but one in which we've all found ourselves. Personally I'd keep the Rover, especially as it's running fine, but then I just love them. Someone on here said the ideal number of cars to own is one more than you already have. It's very hard to get rid of stuff (I've just sold my SLK and have chronic seller's remorse already) but we all have these head vs heart moments. Whatever happens, good luck with getting the dream Spitfire.
  6. Back in the 70's I was into the custom scene a la good old Hot Car mag. I nearly bought a customised Escort van (1600, Wolfies, side pipes...you get the picture) but chickened out at the last minute. Similarly a Minor pick up with a wooden rear. I guess they'd just look silly nowadays (ok they did even then to be fair) but I really wanted both and would've had so many lols. To make myself feel better I now own a mildly customised Wolseley 1500. Biggest sale regret is my Skoda Rapid convertible. I thought I'd done well to get £4k for it but they're now hen's teeth plus I kinda miss it.
  7. I've no doubt that in reality that's a lovely old thing but to my mind Rollers of that ilk try a bit too hard to be "posh" and remind me of twee sitcoms like Manor Born and Darling Buds. Pity the poor chauffeur clobbering his legs on those levers all the time too. No doubt bound for the wedding trade.
  8. Ok I give in. Whassat then?😁
  9. I did own a runout 45, badged as a Tempo, for a short time a few years ago. It was quite a perky little thing but I got bored once the novelty of its rarity wore off.
  10. As a sixty something I resent that implication😁. Oh hold on I do own a Kia Rio. Ok, point proven! (In my defence I inherited it so could hardly say no. It does enable me to live the stereotype though). My sister owned a couple of Ceratos, another bit of forgotten Kia porridge.
  11. Exactly. In any case I can't see how that is a legitimate plate? (Or is that just an example of the kind of thing you mean?)
  12. I'm stumped now as to what breed of buggy that is, though I'm sure I saw one in Hot Car mag back in the day. A rare spot anyway.
  13. I'm a complete split personality when it comes to plates. I agree that's rubbish (as are many other plates in this thread) yet if my name were Luke Bilkey that would probably appeal to me. I actually own several private plates (only three of them are on vehicles) but sometimes think I must be thick in the head!
  14. This strikes a chord with me. I tried selling my mk1 Octavia a while ago. It is past its prime but running fine. I marked it as sold because I just got fed up dealing with idiots. I still have it and agree, I couldn't bear to find out it had been scrapped six months after selling it which is what happened to my Peugeot Partner that I'd grown quite fond of. I recently put my Kia Rio into a dealer for a couple of faults. They quoted a ridiculous £2.5k for a lot of mostly unnecessary work. I then thought maybe the time has come to chop it in but I can't see anything that appeals to me at a sensible price so looks like that's staying too.
  15. +1 here for a massive thanks Trigger for this thread and the time and effort involved. Far more interesting than anything on the tele! I too felt sick looking at what happened to the Astra, especially after you'd made it so nice, but well done for moving on and continuing to save some great cars. Not many would have taken the time and effort to save that Ital van, and with such fantastic results. I admire your skill and perseverance.
  16. Not bored at all, quite the opposite. This looks like a great meet. Do I take it it's on the first Sunday of every month at The Doghouse? I wasn't aware of it.
  17. AS spot of the year so far Shirley. Be thankful. Some of us have failed to escape from Medway.
  18. There's something deeply annoying about illegal spacing, especially when it makes no sense as is usually the case. WTF does "Pint V" mean? Are we supposed to know? If it were shown as P1 NTV it'd be quite cool.
  19. I like those for some reason. I think it's the puppy-eyed face and they're probably excellent at being a car. Wrong end of the country and too many miles though.
  20. Er yeh that makes perfect sense (I think).
  21. I don't even get that. Around here I just get total indifference and a feeling that I'm always in someone's way.
  22. S110R I've owned since the year dot. Resting since before covid times. I must get her sorted this year.
  23. More fool him. His loss. I've owned three of them in the past and loved them. Kinda wish I hadn't sold my last one.
  24. I know the feeling. Delights (to me) like Skoda Favorit, FSO Caro, Peugeot Partner and even SLK don't seem to cut it either!
