TWELVE YEARS I've been waiting for this to happen!  An Ambassador encountered totally randomly in the wild.  Mike, the owner of the Ambassador, was so surprised to see the Princess as he was leaving and I was arriving that he turned around and came back specifically to say hello.

I am inordinately excited and I refuse to contain myself.

  2. I'm really trying to get this Patreon thing off the ground, you can find that here: https://www.patreon.com/NoExpenseSpent

    It's £3 a month.

Youtube thus far hasn't paid me a penny and the channel growth has been slow but steady.  Until you hit 1000 subscribers you don't earn anything, and even then it's not a lot.  It certainly takes a while before Youtube income covers the time and materials put into content.

Therefore, I've opted to do the Patreon thing, which I'm also currently earning nothing from.  I really hope that changes soon.  Patrons will get access to the same videos I put on Youtube but at least a week early and without ads.  They'll also get access to whatever new design is going in the print shop before anyone else does, as well as voting on what the new designs will be.  My goal is to release one automotive design a month, and for the people actually paying money to be the ones directing the subject matter.  Anything I do in traditional media will also be available to Patrons first before I make it publicly available.

Commissions are also OPEN again and I'd really welcome the work.  Since the house move I'm really pushing to earn more and it's hard to do. I realistically need to double my income and I'm struggling to find the best way to do it due to a lack of knowledge.  I've got a couple of local leads to chase up, and a back-up plan of applying for a part-time job to help out but there's only so many hours in a day and as passionate as I am about my job, I do have to face the reality that I might have to give it up if things don't improve drastically this year.

  3. Any degreaser of choice will do the trick, spray on Gunk or even dish soap in a squirty bottle will do the trick.  Tends to be a bit easier to get off than engine oil.  Lots of paper towel helps too, seems to be better at cleaning off and absorbing the LHM than fabric rags.

  4. The Berlingo et al seem to have superseded the mk1 Citroen Picasso.  I do still see the old Picassos tooling about, not as often as I used to, but there's still a lot of them kicking about for what is quite an old car now.

Mazda 323 and Demio of the early 2000s also seem to be surviving in surprising numbers, though often overlooked as the styling just seems to make them blend in.

  5. Having some fun and games here trying to get a gas bottle delivered.  When I was in Kent I just called up Adam's Gas and they would deliver, no bother.  Up here in Scunny I've been going through the list of suppliers, getting further and further away, and nobody does delivery.  This is going to be a bit of an arse.  I've got one call back to do on Wednesday to a company in Sheffield that *might* be passing through, but that's the best lead I've managed.

Alternative suppliers in the Scunthorpe area that do delivery of Co2/Argon mig welding gas very welcome as suggestions.  The cash is waiting, I just need the gas.

EDIT: Never mind!  Mariner Gas in Scunthorpe delivering tomorrow.  Friendly, and made it very easy to do the order.

  6. Apart from accidentally cutting someone up on a roundabout today - honestly, lane choice and indication suggested they were going around the whole way, not coming off, and then the Princess did that weird bogging down thing that it does sometimes I've never been able to solve - this thing drove past me while doing some shopping.

Not my photo, I wasn't able to get one, so I stole it off Pinterest.  It genuinely looks better on the move than it has in any photo I've seen of it.  I knew it was up north somewhere, and a regular at Whitby for obvious reasons, now I wonder if it's actually pretty local so I shall be keeping an eye out for photo opportunities on this one.  Someone did tell me what it was built on once, but I've since forgotten.

  7. I do need a new windscreen, mine is definitely past its first flush of youth, slopey, and far from my face.  Amazingly new screens are still available, £500 special order, and it is on my wishlist.

  8. I will be, when I've got the funds for new specs.  I've not long had an eye test and that landed me with varifocals and a £400 bill for the privilege.  For now I'll just avoid night driving.

  9. Drove to a little social thing tonight - it was good, will go again - and it wasn't fully dark on the drive out so all was fine.  On the drive back it was fully dark and it wasn't as fine.  Oncoming traffic up here has a lot less LED nonsense, there's still quite a few yellowy halogens out there which is nice.  However, the bright-dark street lighting plays havoc with my night time depth perception, another flaw of LED lighting.  Also, while I can see where I'm going, I can't see very well.  I stuck main beam on for a bit to see if it made a difference and it did... also nobody flashed me at all which kind of told me all I need to know about the brightness or lack thereof of my headlights.

The two take aways from this is that I probably need some non-photochromatic night time driving specs and to upgrade my headlights significantly.  I already knew this of course.  What is money if not for spending?

Hi Vulgalour, my name is Simon Hayes and I'm the current Chairman of The Leyland Princess and Ambassador Enthusiasts' Club. I now own LSA481W and have removed the alloys and returned her to original spec now! I'm trying (!) to compile a list of possible surviving Wedges and would like to use some of your data if possible - would you mind contacting me?  We want to establish which cars still exist, if any need new homes, if any are in need of help with restoration/parts and of course to grow the club membership - its the big 50 next year and naturally we want as many wedges in attendance when we celebrate! Thanks so much in advance.

Hello and welcome to this weird little nook of the forum.  Great to see someone else enjoying a wedge in their own way.  I've just moved house so I've not had chance to get back into updating the info on the website yet, I'm planning to get working on it over the next couple of weeks.  Any data is free to use, I've just been collating what I can find that's out there really and trying to put it into one spot.  Eventually, everything I have will be here: https://www.angyl.co.uk/work/wedgister as a hub for all the info collected.  My survivors list is probably out of date as things stand, I know a couple have surfaced recently and are back on the road, and a couple have died.

Mine is now my daily and only transport and I've got plans to do some improvements on her once the dust has settled here.  Definitely not one for the purists and I've no plans to return it to stock, I love what its become over the years and I'm looking forward to where it goes in the future.  I just use mine exactly as BL intended, as a car.  Here we were today at the tip earlier today, proving they are practical even if they don't have the Ambassador's hatch.

Did you take over from Kev?  Or am I thinking of the other Princess/Ambassador club?  It got very People's Front of Judea when I was trying to figure out which club to join and now I'm not a member of any.

  11. One of my biggest stresses about moving back up north was the cost of just stuff in general.  I don't have the best relationship with money, I'd rather it didn't exist and I dislike having to strive to acquire a certain amount of it every week but until a better alternative arrives I suppose I'll just have to tolerate it.  Anyway, one of my big fears was just being able to afford enough food to be healthy because I've been used to Kent prices.  Kent prices, it turns out, are actually insane.  Being able to eat healthily and within my budget is kind of a big deal for me.  Also, next month I'm checking out the local gym since my old one doesn't have a location up here and if it's as good as it looks on paper, that's going to be half the price for the same equipment and better opening hours (it's a 24/7 one, which I wasn't expecting outside of a big city).

This week has felt much more stable.  Routines are re-establishing themselves and a lot of my fears of going back into rented accomodation haven't been realised which in turn is helping me stay more focused and productive with work.  Makes it a lot easier to stay positive about things.

  12. I like the design, but I want an LED upgrade over the H4 bulbs.  This idea is going to have to be on hold now anyway, house move cost more than expected so I'm broke for a bit while I recover, the existing H4s will just have to do.  That said, there aren't so many wanker lights up here as there are in Kent, nor as much traffic, and in general it's just a whole lot more pleasant to be out driving even the very tiny runs I've done recently.
