top buy! and as for obscure, that makes my hunt for parts seem positively straightforward!
not trying to teach you to suck eggs in any way, shape or foem, but who are you using for shipping? I have used Rybec ans Kinsgtown before, both are reliable and can arrange US-based transport on your behalf fella

Diesel non-turbo Discos? They've never existed. They've always had turbos. Speaking of Discos though, I'd quite like to try an Mpi just to see how miserable they are. More power than a Tdi, but about as much torque as a bicycle.
really? I didn't know that. A mate had a non-turbo diesel when I was posted to the fatherland in '93ish, it was a LHD on bosche plates, fwiw. did the bosche get a differant spec or something? was as slow as death anyhow

personnally (and this is subjective, I know) I would avoid all Vauxhall built after 1973 as they are simply dull.
any ford fiesta apart from mk 1s
diesel non-turbo discovery's, utterly potless
i also love the unloved, though i also love a quiet life, so tend to buy german shite as dailies

i've got some digi pics of my caddy on here somewhere, pics of my other huge yank shite is proper pics, so i'll get themscanned and posted up soon.
i've imported three cars now and it's really not a big deal. i'll write up the process and attach it as a word doc, easier on bandwidth that way.
There used to be load of old yank shite kicking about but i guess it all got used up either as V8 donor's for hot rods or went banger racing (certainly seen plenty of shonky old yanks on the oval down at chedder and at Standerlake).
the only prob with owning the C20 was the size of it, as the bed was 8ft long, it ended up being filled with re-cycling and then off to the tip once a month with a bed full of carboard and glass. uber-cool fun getting there though, and it pulled like a train.
The '59 has a siezed motor and rotted out sills, thats why it was cheap!!
couple of more pics

i love driving shite cars but i also think that i missed out in life. see, I was born to be tattooed white trash, never happier than when i'm barreling through the badlands in a big-arsed gas guzzler with a cracked windscreen and a dozen empty Marlboro packets on the dash top
here is my latest foray into the great big american shite, a 1959 Ford Galaxie, just (literally, as in 21st dec 2011) arrived from Kansas
prior to the Ford I owned this muddy-funster, a 1949 chevy 2 dr sedan, 4200cc straight six and no sound proofing at all, i always thought it was like being in a dambuster
and before the chevy, I was a real-deal rednek in this, a 1966 chevy C20 fleetside, 4400cc straight six and floor change, check out the furry dice and chrome truck mirrors
also owned Cadillacs, Buicks, Pontiacs and so on and so forth and as soon as i can find some pics of them, i'll post them up too, love them for no other reason than I can
anyone else love tatty yank shite, or is it just me?

that car is awful in a fab kind of way. i'm a huge fan of the OAP spec and colour scheme too, all it's missing is an anti-static drag thing off the rear bumper now. Good save!
I have a love/hate relationship with acclaims as my dad actually chopped in a Celica fastback for one years ago. Told you he was mental.

love the big arsed old barge's, and adore the 50's stuff. I 've just imported a 1959 Ford Galaxie fro the US, always have a mahosive yank to back up the daily shite.
keep the coming!!

God, where to start? Dad was/is careful with his beer tokens, almost to the point of miserly and as such he “didn’t do depreciation, sonâ€Â. This lead to all manner of automotive dross, an affliction which has sadly rubbed off on me.
First motor was a Fiat 128 in fetching red with matching rust, this lasted about 9 months before I totalled it and went out and spunked £125 on a ’73 Austin 1300gt. That went like stink and turned left like it was on rails, due to leaking hydra-gas suspension. This was too far gone rust-wise for an MoT so a Mk 2 Capri 2l sport was bought for 3oo bar, corsican blue with dealer-fitted primer wheel arch’s. When the passenger door fell off, I decided to chop it in against a triumph spitfire. Bear in mind the Capri was missing a door, and the spit had no boot-floor (or spare wheel, which on a spit is mounted on the bootfloor).
Dad’s collection? Jesus, it would fill a page but chief amongst them is a 1978 Renault 12 in blue (also with primer arches, squared off nicely were the masking tape was). It was 1200cc auto, to give you an idea of the awesome power of that beast. Plus Dad had a fetish for bloody Princess’s and not the sexy blonde Diana type either. 6 of them he had, along with two Ambassadors. Hated them, I learnt to drive in one and let me tell you, I can three-point turn anything as a result. The twat.

Sometimes cars from Guernsey and Jersey get later plates from the date of import ( we have a car which 'lost' 2 years ).It makes you wonder though just how many 'forgotten' unused cars are sitting in storage. Did anyone ever see the Plymouth Belvedere they buried in Tulsa in 1958 ? That was a big mistake

this one?
the years swapping thing happened to a spitfire i took to germany with me, when i got posted back to UK and re-registered it, it went from a T reg to a W reg. not uncommon for squaddies to have that happen

do i need to say hello as a newbie? or just wade in with my own brand of shite? couldn't find an "intro" thread anywhere?
Do you own the oldest daily smoker where you live?

yup, daily is a 1994 polo and my other motor (though it's not actually on the street yet!) is the '59 ford pictures elsewhere. That car is actually older than the street itself I think!
