  1. Not purchased much in the way of Hot Wheels for, ooh, a couple of weeks now. (To be honest I think I was a bit overwhelmed by the recent Q case dump at Aldi!) Sadly things have returned to bugger all in the way of HW and Matchbox mainlines at the usual haunts. Worryingly, my local Morrisons have finished their revamp and their toy section is now half the size it used to be, and the current diecast on offer is one clipstrip of bastard Teamsters! This is concerning as this branch used to be my best hunting ground for Hot Wheels mainlines, although Home Bargains recently opened a new store quite near us, which has mainly recent releases in, so fingers crossed for there. I need somewhere good for mainlines, as recently I've been buying more bloody premiums instead! I had to drop master_201 off at his prospective big school for an assessment this morning, which left me at a loose end for an hour. And with Smyths only 10 minutes away... They had had a bit of a restock, but with slightly older premium stuff. Which was okay, as I had missed out on this when they first came out. Granted it's not the best 190E they've done, but it's still a 190E! I think the colour is the issue, I don't think this green is the most inspiring, although they're not spoilt for options with the Evolution II as M-B only made 500 of the road version, all in Blauschwartz, (apart from 2 mythical special order ones in Astral Silver and Almandine Red), and they've already covered that with the Modern Classics version. (Glad I got this one before the prices went stupid...) So any colour they do now is going to look a bit odd. Saying that I think Signal Red or Astral Silver would have worked better.. Saying that, there is a fair bit to like about this one, the tampo detailing on the lights is good. Clear indicators are a nice touch and a throwback to the days when I had a couple of slightly modified Euro-style 190s and the "clears vs gingercators" war, er, debate was in full swing on the Merc forums. The Evo II specific bodykit is well modelled too. The wheels are suitably Euro too, with a nice bit of dish to them, although I still prefer the Ronal Turbo-style wheels on the black version. The beige on these ones reminds me of a Bornite 190E a mate on the forum had a few years ago to which he fitted a set of RH Topline deep dish wheels, painted the same shade of beige as the interior. When the car was parked up with the doors open, the effect was absolutely stunning! So much so, I ended up with two Bornite 190s afterwards... Nicely detailed at the rear too, though they could have done the reversing lights. Nice work on the Evo II rear wing though. They also had the yellow Porsche 911 Turbo which I like a lot, but I only had a tenner on me, so the Merc won. Hopefully they still have a Porker in stock next week...
  2. Oof yes, I saw that one advertised on eBay last year. I remember it had funky yellow Capri Carla check seats too. I also have much want for it! The Vanguards 3.0S was actually modelled on this one, TKR 896R. Note the Capri S style alloys, as on the model. Now lives in Ireland I believe,
  3. That little tinker is playing games with us again... 🤣
  4. Vanguards 2.3S in Signal Amber, modelled on a real car. Complete with funky orange Cadiz-striped interior. They also did a South African spec 3.0 S in what was meant to be the SA shade Grass Green, but according to one of the guys on the Vanguards FB site who is a bit of a MK4 nut, the real car was resprayed in Signal Green when it was imported into the UK, which Corgi was unaware of, so that is what the model apparently is, (Yes, I'm sad, I got all the Cortina S variants, including the flying Signal yellow version from Sweeney 2. They are my favourite Mk4s...) It wasn't until fairly recently I found out that there was both a Signal Amber and Signal Orange. Vanguards did another Cortina (a 2.0 Ghia) in Signal Orange, a notably different shade to the amber. Incidentally that Jupiter red Ghia YEW 922T was also modelled by Vanguards...
  5. No problem, I'll put your name on it. Give me a shout if you need it.
  6. Yeah, comparing it to the black Hot Wheels F&F E34, it does stand up really well, considering the 30-odd years between them. And the Matchbox has opening doors...
  7. Last one from the bunglebox was this, Don't really know what I'm going to do with it, as I've not had anything in this scale for donkeys years. But it's a Merc... Again, like the vast majority of older diecasts I've bought from the good folk on here, it's for a combination of nostalgia and/or one I wanted at the time but missed out on. I loved my Polistil and Burago 1/24 ish cars. I had the red 190E (that had a lot to answer for in later years...) but never got the SEC , although I did have it's near rival, the BMW 635 CSi which was a lovely thing. This one, bodywise is immaculate, practically perfect. Only things that spoil it really are the missing rear light section (same section actually came loose on my old 635 too) And the seat backrests. There is a slightly shabby one of these on eBay for about £4 with intact rear lights and tan interior. I may get it as a donor and mint this one up. The condition of the bodywork makes it worthwhile I think.
  8. And I finally got round to opening and examining the contents of the recently arrived bunglebox. Some moderns first, a couple I already have spares of, so I can now open and fondle the silver Merc, I've already opened and pissed about detailing a Kadett so this one can stay on the card for now. Been looking forward to getting this one, I was chuffed to get the white GTV, but I think it looks a whole lot better in red. A lovely rendering of one of my favourite shapes of all time. I remember getting a similarly scaled bright green Guisval version from Spain in 1987. Was one of my favourite holiday purchases, (although the bar was high as I also scored the Guisval MK3 Granada, Seat Malaga and Peugeot 205 5-door that holiday) Also in the box were, After my childhood phase of collecting Majorettes, I went through a bit of a second phase with them around the mid to late '80s even though, I suppose I was getting a little TOO old to be knobbing around with toy cars by then. A guy at our local market had started stocking a good selection of then current releases at well below toy shop prices. I fondly remember the Toyota Tercel 4WD, Lite Ace, Saab 900, Volvo 760, and Alfa Giulietta. This Prelude was one I missed out on at the time though. It's a pretty well modelled, if slightly basic thing. I do like the all glazed rear panel and rear wiper like the real thing. I remember the real Prelude being unusual at the time in being a non hatchback with a rear wiper. It looks a bit better with the wheels re silvered I think. This is a replacement for one I loved as a kid, helped probably by a certain Secret Service white RS on the telly at the time. I think I just played the wheels off it and it eventually got binned when it had no paint or A pillars left! I later got a Super GT version when they came out but it wasn't the same, with the black windows and no interior, so it's nice to have an original one again. This one's really in decent shape. May just lose what's left of the decals, touch in the worst of the paint chips and maybe black the spoiler and detail the lights. The MG1100 was another one I had and loved as a kid. It dated from a good few years before I was born and already had not one scrap of paint left on it so it must have been handed down by my brother or cousin. I liked it as, like most of the toy cars I had, it was an ordinary 'relatable' car, and ADO16s were still quite commonplace on the roads at that time. And it had added dag... This one is in far far better condition than the one from my toybox. I'm very pleased with it. Another one I remember having as a kid, along with the Merc 450 SEL and the Peugeot 604, they made a lovely Motor magazine group-test style Euro luxobarge trio. I recently got a replacement for the Merc, I need to find a Peugeot now... Bit of '90s Majorette goodness now. Reminds me of a 19 cabby a mate had a few years ago. One from my favourite Matchbox era, that I missed out on, and quite an unusual subject. Quite an oddity in having RHD too, As is this one. It's only recently I've been aware that Matchbox did a 5 series. I've been after one since then, but wasn't keen on the faux-Touring Car livery most of them come in. Recently I discovered they did this black version, but they must be fairly rare because they go for crazy money on eBay. I think the black & tan colour combo really suits it and it's a decent rendering of the E34 shape. As an '80s-'90s German car fanboy, I do like the ones Matchbox did at the time, now this can join the 323i Bauer cab, Merc 500SL, 500 S-Class and 300E. I've black Sharpied the worst of the paint chips, just to tidy it up, along with a strange bit of bubbling on the bonnet and wing that had to be rubbed down. If the black version is a bit on the rare side, I dont really want to repaint it. (As I'd probably balls it up anyway...)
  9. Snap! Picked this up at Asda at the weekend, Yep, it is a bastard to photograph! As usual, the detailing is good, and the metal base and real rider wheels and tyres give an air of quality. As it should at the price! I was a bit disappointed at missing out on the red Canyon Racers E39 M5, so I was happy to find the E34, which I prefer anyway. I quite fancy the Supra and Nova in this series as well, and possibly even the Land Rover, so I'll probably be visiting Asda again over the next few weeks. (It's nice to sneak diecast buying into the weekly shop. Helps marital harmony no end...) Aldi had the last knockings of the Q case stuff in, so grabbed the last couple of releases that caught my eye. Huge engined supercar stuff isn't usually my bag but it's nice to see this version of the Viper in standard early form. The 3 spoke wheels look gloriously '90s style on this. I'm trying desperately to avoid getting multiple coulourways of the same casting, but I can't resist a Plymouth GTX. And I grabbed the last 510 wagon in the shop, as a spare. Available if anyone's desperate for one...
  10. Finally! Found an orange Kadett at B&M yesterday. Luckily @bunglebus has been keeping one to one side for me so I could open this one and piss about with a quick and dirty Blindworks (TM) detailing job... Just can't do this sort of thing like I did when I was younger! It's already a nicely detailed thing, compared to the GT/E version. I didn't actually notice the small Opel blitz badge on the bonnet until I had it out of the packaging. So, just a bit of brightwork on the bumpers and window frames, and some black on the mirrors, C pillar vents and door handles. Yes the window frames look a bit heavy, my Sharpie is a bit too thick for a job like that methinks... . Back in it's little home. To cause possible consternation on motoring forum tat threads in 40 or so years time to rival the current Tat Friday Glue Bombs...
  11. Thanks for the offer of the Marcos, much appreciated. Despite wanting one since I was a kid, I'll mull it over as I already have far too many boxes of tat awaiting despatch that I don't know what I'm going to do with!
  12. A little bit of googling says scale is 1/50 or thereabouts apparently,
  13. All yours sir, I think yours would be a better home for it!
  14. I'll have the Insignia please Tim if it's not spoken for and not too fucked. Not in my usual remit but I quite like that whizzwheels Marcos. Is that a Mini Marcos under the unfortunate Mini pick up too?
  15. Hmm, quite a few there that I missed the other day. So stopped off at the big town centre Aldi on the way home. I agree with the comments on the refreshed Nomad. I do love a '60s style drag car myself, this one has the slotmag style wheels too. Like Sir Mix-a-lot, I do like a big backside... This really is a great casting! And that IS it for the Q case for me now!
  16. Ah yes, Aldi. I'd already seen @155V6 s post showing his tally of fresh Hot Wheels Q Case goodies from there and thought I was safe. Our local Aldi never really stock them, and it's always a half arsed selection when they do, from a couple of cases behind. Oh dear. Not my favourite variant of this, but I do like the 510 wagon, and it is purple and has those wheels. After getting the modern Then & Now purple Dodge Charger a couple of weeks ago, I wasn't expecting to find the older one quite so soon. They make quite a nice duo, I do like this Pajero casting in the Ralliart livery, Pick of the bunch was this one, Was disappointed not to find the red one in the wild, so it was a nice surprise to get this. Hope we get a non-race livery version sometime so we can have tampos printed at the rear. I think, apart from the blue Caddy Seville that wasn't there weirdly, that's about all the ones I wanted out of the Q case. Never happens in one go, usually. Just as well Mrs-W201 works weekends. She thinks she struck gold when I suggested doing the big shop on a Saturday... Speaking of which, this arrived the other week which she ordered for me, (No, it's not a marquee, I just have a bit more timber than I once did...) I know people wearing car related t shirts Is regarded as a bit sad on here but IDGAF, I love it. Fortunately my personal hygiene programme is up to scratch so it should be okay to wear to model fairs...
  17. Well, with the recent sparseness of small (HW and MB) diecasts in my area, I was intending to wean myself off these and use the money saved on 1/43 stuff which is still my collecting preference and at least I can find the stuff I want quite readily and don't have to waste miles, fuel and time on a weekend. That has all gone right down the shitpan this weekend and it's mostly the fault of you bloody lot on here! Seeing the many purchases folk have made in TK Maxx recently reminded me that one has recently opened in a new small retail park near me. The big one in the town centre that closed down was never up to much, diecast wise, so I thought we'd have a look in the new one on the pretence of now-teenage daughter looking for cheap designer clobber and cosmetics... Majorette have always been a fave of mine. I always had loads as a kid, the attraction being that they modelled normal, everyday stuff. This was rekindled a few years ago when Morrisons suddenly started doing them, along with Home Bargains, doing fairly mundane subjects like Clios, Meganes, small Audis, Opel Adams & Corsas etc. So after other folk's recent purchases, I went hunting. There wasn't a massive amount, but still, Boom! Yeah, a dull modern hatch to most of us on here, but I've wanted one of these i30Ns for yonks, to the point of almost spunking a tenner on a 5 pack in Asda with one in. Almost. I've always liked 'unlikely sporty' cars from manufacturers you wouldn't expect them from, which is why I loved the original Octavia VRS. The Hyundai falls in that category for me. It's a nicely detailed thing, I think it was datsuncog who said that current Majorettes absolutely knock stuff like current Sikus out of the park, and I agree. I'd even say that apart from the lack of rubber tyres and metal base, they're a match for Hot Wheels premiums. It's a shame I've not been able to get the original light blue release as it's more of a typical i30N colour, but this one will more than do! I do like a T3 camper, so grabbed this. The sliding door is a nice touch and has a decent, if basic, rendering of a camper interior. Shame there were no MK1 Golfs but still... Again, I'd have preferred the black 911 Carrera, but I do like this Porker. I love the 1976-vintage livery on it, But the big find for me was this, Fucking Yes!!! Another one I've wanted for ages and never thought I'd get hold of, especially for £2.99. It's a wonderful little casting. Being an ageing ex-boy racer who should know better, I also actually like the lairy paint and inappropriate wheels. So we hopped back in the car with me filled with the usual mixture of elation and buyer's regret. But we had the big food shop to get now, and first stop was Aldi...
  18. Thought so, just checking. 😁 Grabbed the T3 anyway as I like it. Some other quality Majorette purchases were made too. Pics to follow.
  19. @bunglebus you got these already?
  20. Bloody hell, didn't know that! I'd all but given up on the Alfa too. Out of interest, you haven't got a spare orange MB Kadett by any chance?
  21. A quick scoot around Morrisons was disappointing. They're changing everything around and what was the toy department, including an empty Hot Wheels rummage box occupies half a shelf unit dumped near the tills. To think most of my Hot Wheels new case finds used to come from there... Wasn't all tears though, on the end of an aisle was a stack of Majorette 5 pack gift sets at a tempting 50% off... Yes, like a twat, I spent a tenner on a 5 pack just to get one particular car. You might be able to guess which... Yup. I didn't even know Majorette had done a 190, but this one is a little beauty, almost as good as the Hot Wheels Evo 2 premium, which I also have. Pleasing details include the glazed headlights, plus the fact they have gone to the trouble of modelling the different sized door mirrors, as on the real thing. Nice badging and tail light detail, plus the Evo 2 rear wing and rear screen visor. Opening doors are a bonus, and the interior is a decent stab at the real thing. Particularly the dash, including the three auxiliary gauges in the console. The Clio is another winner. Glazed headlights again, and nice detail on the bumper. Opening doors are the party trick on this one too, again nice interior detail for the size, Nissan Cefiro is an unusual addition. I'm sure this was the forerunner of the Maxima/QX that we got over here? Opening bonnet on this one, giving a decent bit of engine detail. Weird having TWO Corvette ZR1s in here but at least they're slightly different versions, hardtop on and off. Opening bonnet is a nice feature, but as can be seen in the above pic, the fit isn't brilliant when it's closed... Same with the open version,
  22. A trip around the local haunts brought some limited success this week. It seems on Teesside we're only about 6 months behind now... Again, I think every household in the UK has one of these now, but as an inveterate Merc-licker, I'm pleased to finally find one. At Entertainer as well, normally all the desirable stuff gets hoovered up before I get there. So I hunted for anothe couple to make up the 3 for 2. I do like a purple car so grabbed this. The paint is really nice on this, and the tampos look good. Yet another Then & Now release, but under no circumstances am I going to be trawling the shops looking for the older generation counterpart. #cured #kiddingmyself A trip to the small local Asda revealed a handful of recent HW on a clipstrip, A solitary long card Scooby And amazingly, Tesco had some new Matchbox for the first time in several months.. In addition to the ones I got from B&M recently, there were these, Surprised Matchbox didn't do this as a standard model, as the MK1 Civic was, as Hot Wheels have already done a modified N600, but it's a cute wee thing. I do like an Ice Cream van. I was surprised when Matchbox released this, as I don't think there will have been many Morrison or Cummins bodied Bedford CAs on the streets of the US, but I'm happy they did it all the same. I have one from a few years ago, in a lighter shade of pink, the earlier casting with the metal front end, which I removed the shit US style graphics from and scraped and scuffed up a bit, to resemble the knackered old ex-Tonibell one that used to operate around our estate when I was a little 'un in the late '70s. For a cheap small toy, it's pretty well detailed with a Carpi type machine, cornet racks, fridges and a sink, I was chuffed to find this, despite having almost never heard of an Autozam before Matchbox modelled it. It's a nicely modelled little thing.
  23. I owned a Nacoral 1/24;MK1 Capri, brought back from Majorca, back in the early '80s Vanguards are announcing a Mk2 early next year too. Should be a good one.
  24. I have the crushed car version, lovely model. And it's UK equivalent, the Brian Harris ERF EC , Both a bit knackered now, they've both shed a few bits thanks to falling off the display unit a few too many times but I like to get them out occasionally and have a fondle.
  25. They had a few of the 70th anniversary cars there. I can grab one too if needed?
