This is my old and dearly departed (self-converted) Master camper getting a much-needed lick of coach paint in 2005. Five years of joyous (if slow) holidays ensued...

    Update / tinkering.

While hitting the interior with a hoover a while back i noticed some redundant vacuum pipe dangling behind the centre console.

At first i thought it was for a once fitted boost gauge but there were two pipes and one of them went back through the bulkhead and connected to nothing so not for a boost gauge so it must be for one of these...

A cheap 'n' cheerful manual boost controller no less.

It was a doddle to fit too and blue silicon vac pipe will make it faster too.

T piece bit goes on the Wastegate pipe.

And the adjuster goes wherever you want.

It was £10 and works perfectly, the turbo spins up much quicker and stronger but if i vent the turbo actuator too far i hit the ecu's in built fuel cut and i kangaroo down the street.

On the very busy Daihatsu performance facebook page there is a diagram for making a cheat box to fool the ecu into moving the fuel cut from 0.5 to 0.7 bar.

I think thats the next step.

The little Daihatsu has done a tank of fuel now at around 38mpg i am happy with that and continues to scare me,not with its acceleration but with its brakes and wayward cornering antics.
I do seem to be creating an impressive amount of brake dust though.

The auto box so I'm told is useless because it's made of chocolate and wont last till Easter so i thought it best i gave it its first fluid change.

It holds over 5 litre of dexron 3 but you can only get half of it out so i did one change today and will go again after 50 miles or so.

On the stick this stuff looked clean honest..

    That's better.

I gave it a good tonking around the new Amazon / Ikea warehouses that have popped up on the peninsula and it don't seem any slicker but maybe it is a bit quieter.

After arrival at the offending driveway, the *thing did turn up.

turns out it is a Piaggio Ape.  not a bad looking little thing really. we chucked it off the trailer, and set to looking at its undercarriage.

no matter how hard we tried, it just wouldn't fire. so, off with the airbox, and liberal use of brake cleaner had it firing!

    ok, so fuel then.....

    tank off.

some form of yeti piss came out of the tank....  complete with hair ??  oh, and this

I sold the Skoda to someone in Yorkshire, because someone offered me a shit-sounding Mazda in Southport. Urgent preparations were made and the journey commenced.

I met the Skoda owner in Rochdale before a short drive to his house. GOOD OMEN.

    Last Skoda pic.

Deal done, we looked at local vehicles of interest. This used to live in Sydney.

Then the new Skoda owner drove me to my new car! How nice is that? Well, I had saved him a six-hour roundtrip I guess.

I took no pictures of my new car, but did a video thing.

The horrific kangerooing issue was soon identified.

Went back to the vendor, borrowed some screwdrivers and aluminium tape and wrapped the pipe considerably. Then drove 100 miles. Had food.

    FLATTERING PIC

Got home 12 hours after leaving.

It's a 1.5 GLX, but is surprisingly punchy. It has two weeks of MOT. It has a gash right along the nearside where it caught a gate post (or more specifically the hinge upon it). The windscreen is badly scratched by ancient wipers. There's a CV joint on the way out. There stereo is from an Alfa Romeo, sounds fantastic but is horrible to use. The buttons don't light up.

It's all rather firm - steering wheel, seats and suspension. There's too much lumbar support and I don't think you can adjust it. There is a clutch foot rest. The column stalks are proper JDM. It is an absolute hoot on Welsh roads. Even on an odd mix of budget rubber, you don't really need to slow down for bends. It's quite remarkable.

The 'home' shot shows why there's no petrol station shot. It had three-quarters of a tank! I shall put it in for an MOT and see how much my MOT man laughs. More pics to follow.

The 1800cc boxer engine has always burnt oil and its big end bearings really knock while waiting for the oil pressure to rise so that is a good a place as any to start.

It's an oily old bugger but even the down pipes unbolted without any complaint.

Last year i bought a cheap engine crane just for pulling the motor out but the quality of some of its welds were so piss poor i had to beef them up before using it in anger.

Obviously being a flat four it's only half the length of a common engine so is a doddle to get out.

While the motor is out i am going to change the gearbox.
It all works ok 2wd,4wd and hi and low ratio is all good but it whines and marks it spot with a few drops of ep80.

I have a spare from my long since scrapped one but its been stored behind the shed for six years and the bin bags i had wrapped it in had long since rotted away and it wasn't looking too great.

So i got it into the shed today and gave it a good clean and freed up the sticky high/low linkage then removed a little inspection plate and had a peep inside.

My big fear was that water has got into it but the inside is still oily with no sign of corrosion.

I sack barrowed the engine up the garden to the shed today where i sat it next to one i started to prepare earlier.

    Afternoon Gents,
I bought this to chug about to work in earlier in the year but i've just bought an estate cheap off my mate so this is now surplus to requirements

    Power steering!

It's in very tidy condition for its age, few giffer scrapes but that's it. Paint shines up nicely and the interior is good. Drives well, and is pretty sprightly for a 1300. Only little pain with it is the wipers dont seem to self park at the mo

With the YRV more or less finished i think its about time i got my arse in gear and sort out my Subaru.

I have owned this since 2012 when it was a beige truck with grot in all the usual places.

I spent an age welding it up and swapping panels over from my other totally rotted out one before prepping the body to the best of my ability.

Before paying to get it painted in vw corrida red 2pack.

Once put back together it did look quite tidy.

Fast forward to 2019,the mot has long since expired, the expensive paint job has faded and rust has burst through the rear arches and sills.

Towards the end i started to rush things.I should have put fresh metal in the arches rather than just treating the rust and using filler.
As for the sills these have rotted from the inside and i think at some point the screen seal was allowing rain water to run down the A post and soak them.

It also lives outside all year round.

I have new sill panels for it but the floor where it joins them is going to need help too.
I plan to make a template of the rear arch profile then go down the scrappy and cut the arches out of something similar.

Mostly filling and painting left now on the metal work, few patches on the cab to be done at a later date.
Got some more colour on yesterday, bit patchy looking in the pics but it'll get another coat yet.
