Some more progress on this (sorry @Tickman!!)
However, this is to be my daily so i need it in order. Also I hit a pothole with the S4 and am struggling to get anyone to repair the wheel and resore all 4 for under £300. I'm therefore not too keen on driving it too much just now. The tyre looks OK but I don't trust it.
Last week i went to my mates unit where we (OK, mostly his mate) fitted 4 new Rainsport 5s  in place of the 10 year old Nexens. I have grip again!
The trip computer seems to work, here's what it reported on a steady 10 mile commute

Exactly what I want to see! (I know, it needs a clean inside...)
On Saturday morning I fitted the new inner tie rod. A chopped down 32mm water pump spanner made this easy to do and it drives a lot better now the steering gear has no free play...
Here's what I have beneath the arches

    New standard Renault dampers
Random lowering springs-I'd like to find some slightly longer ones but it'll be a bit of a lottery and raising the rear torsion beam to match will be a pain in the ass.
    New discs and pads
New H&R spacers(required for the 15" wheels to clear the rear and it does look pretty good on them and doesn't seem to rub.
And generally decent condition for 16 years old and 155k miles on the shell.
A new set of plugs arrived so they got fitted, here's the state of the old ones...

On Sunday I went to B&Q and bought some MDF, several hours later i had a bulkhead fitted.

Plan is to carpet the cabin side-can anyone advise on a suitable (cheap) covering?
It's made it a good bit quieter, it's still fooking loud though so i think completing the exhaust is the next mission. Then i can look at the EPAS conversion and timing belt change. They'll need to be done at the same time ideally as the whole aux belt setup changes when you convert to EPAS.

I can safely say power has been restored. She's driving tremendously.

Thats just for cleaning out the current EGR, I'll fit the new one when it arrives.

    Driving absolutely spot on.

Just noticed the info screens on this 195 don’t actually mention stopping at the station I’m due to change at.
Mentioned it to the guard who says that it’s very strange but I shouldn’t worry.
I’ve got to admit I’d be slightly more reassured to hear this from the driver.

Adjustments to the NM fleet have been few and far between so far this year....other than the return of the prodigal Vel Satis currently awaiting transmission surgery down at the farm, it’s been pretty quiet really.
    Until now.
The next 48 hrs are set to include several trains, at least four cars, much distance covered and various members of the Autoshite community.
WCPGW, I hear you ask....potentially quite a lot but let’s see.

I actually retreated to the shelter of the car at Shitefest '18 to:
    a) try and drown out the incessant snoring and
    b) find somewhere that was slightly more midge-proof!

Back home safe and sound, but I am knackered! Just one more derv stop at Dundee, and have most of a full tank left (I left with an empty tank). Sat Nav said 354 miles each way, car odo agreed with 708 miles clocked up at 35.2mpg. Bare in mind this was an AS Bargain Banger (tm) from @cpjitservices which has now clocked nearly 6k miles in my ownership.
Pleasure to meet the legend and true gentleman that is @Cavcraft. Off to bed now, more tomorrow.

About 12 to 15 years ago (cannot find the V5 at the moment to check) when I owned my classic car business, I took a DMW Deemster in part exchange. When I closed the business about 10 years ago the Deemster went into my shed, and for a couple of years it got started occasionally. As I have not ridden a bike since 2004 when two good friends and my elder brother were all killed in bike accidents in a 3 month period the Deemster fitted the "owning a bike but not riding it" bill., and I was reluctant to part with it as I have owned at least one motornike since I was 16 years old. Late last year a shiter here offered for sale a bike I had always lusted after but could not afford when current and after a bit of discussion a deal was done. As soon as everything was agreed, I had to get the DMW running as it was about 8 years since it was started. A new battery was fitted, fuel* drained and a fresh 2 stroke mix added, and amazingly it started. That was about 2 months ago.....
As I was due offshore this weekend, but it was delayed, I ended up with an unbooked weekend, what better way to spend it than driving a round trip of 700 miles. So today, the DMW was started and wheeled out of the shed and ridden to the house, only a 100m or so but my first ride in 16 years!

That is the first time out of the shed in about 10 years! The side panels are in the car to prevent loss of damage and they totally change the look of the bike when fitted, but I will let the new owner post pictures of it complete. Buoyed by my success riding round to the house, I then rode it on to the trailer and lashed it down ready for its journey

Thread to be updated tomorrow if I get chance, but expect it to be dark when I leave in the morning hence the post tonight.

Im glad your racking up the miles, I did too....its one of those cars you jump in and dont even thik about any issues and it gets the job done!! Its an outstanding motor! I miss it ... a lot. I have never had such a dependable car - and it was good on fuel, carried us all and went like stink
    Id gladly have another!

Ive got the 93 which I am using the 95 as a benchmark - I will make this one just as good!

I am glad it is doing you a good service!

Thanks Nick, will investigate that when I'm more sober. Also, and most importantly, a huge thank you for yesterday. As much fun as arsing about with old cars and motorbikes is, it's rare for me to get really excited about one, and the DMW is like every birthday and Christmas at the same time.

Hello everyone, I assume this is the equivalent of walking into a room where everyone is sat in a circle and admitting to an addiction. Well here we go... I have been obsessed with cars for as far back as I can remember, at around 5 years old I remember being very upset with my father for part exchanging his 1600E for a Viva. Since then the Cortina has been my favourite car. I have never desired a Porsche or Ferrari but prefer the cars generally overlooked.  I have very little interest in new cars and prefer those from the 60’s to very early eighties. It is reassuring to see other people here with over twenty cars as it helps me fool myself into thinking I am not as odd as most people seem to think.
As well as my collection of Cortina’s I have a couple of Granada’s , a series 1 XJ6 and TVR Chimera. Our modern cars which seem to be acceptable on here also are a Panda with a sky dome, a mk4 mondeo, Volvo 740 estate and a Seicento.
I don’t think I have a problem with buying cars but may have a problem with selling them!
Oh, and I also bought a Citroen CX yesterday which inspired my username.

  20. Thanks

Billy, I forgot to mention but I spotted what I think is a spare ignition key either under the seat by the battery or in the rear cubby. I never did get around to seeing if it was for the bike or not......
