  1. Just arrived at eurotunnel and have got an earlier crossing
  2. Decided i had not done enough miles so we went for the traditional pre event meal. The owner of the Disco has an Aston but it is in the garage and the Gordon Keeble is staying home this time
  3. Well 296 miles yesterday and 266 so far today (according to the satnav) on only 4 refills, a rough calculation shows 16.2 mpg so could be worse Now parked outside my brothers near Crawley
  4. Now at Warwick Services for a coffee and a fourth fill up. Only casualty so far is after 12 years service my speedometer has decided to retire. Thank goodness for waze
  5. I used to be a member but was never made to feel welcome as mine is a mere continuation
  6. I alternate between petrol and diesel in the same cans all the time. They are never totally empty but probably have a few tens up to a few hundreds of millilitres in them and it never causes problems. The 5 I put in the cobra today, 3 had diesel last fill
  7. I have a house 20 mins from the campsite. Only one has big screen TV with live race coverage, bar with draught London Pride and chefs preparing meals, hence the tent! 300 miles done, two fuel stops and now at my accommodation for the night. Seems to have been a good choice! Right, I believe the bar is open......
  8. Fuel is in, tent in the boot, just need to pack my bag and I will be off. Hope it stays dry this time!
  9. Managed to escape the boat at the weekend and because of the joys* of modern air travel, I eventually got home at 7pm on Sunday. My schedule has changed many times lately, and according to my original rota I should have been heading offshore this weekend, not arriving back. This presented an opportunity and a dilemma. It is the 100th anniversary of the first running of Lemans 24hr and I am unexpectedly free to go. Car of choice though was put away in September with a dragging clutch and no rush to fix because I cannot get to Lemans! Yesterday the car was started, the clutch system bled and the car washed. That will be it ready for a 2000 mile round trip! So today I have to pack my bag, check the fluids and head to Preston(ish) where I have booked a hotel for the night. Normally I do Lemans in a oner, but 3 months of 12 hour shifts 7 days a week tends to leave you a little tired. This time it is Lancashire today, Crawley tomorrow and Lemans on Thursday. First job this morning was to fetch some fuel as I cannot remember how accurate the fuel gauge is. As digging the car out meant moving some others, I decided to take this to fetch 25 litres of fuel to make sure I have enough to get to a petrol station. I think this may be a regular occurrence for the next week or so, as the other car that I am taking is less economical....
  10. Escaped the boat yesterday, arriving at my hotel at 00:45 this morning. Only flight out meant leaving for the airport at 06:30 so decided to wait for the next one tomorrow afternoon. This evening I took my old boss who retired 18 months ago for a pizza and beer It cost, for 2 OK pizzas and 6 beers a mere £145. Yes, I am in Stavanger! Why is this a grin? My old boss in the last 3 years has survived both cancer and a triple by-pass. I had worked for him for over 23 years, and has become one of my best friends in all the world. I thought I would not get the chance to do it again as the last time we met he looked like death warmed up, but tonight he looked great and I was delighted to be able to buy him beer!
  11. No, the French one is a Range Rover L322 Diesel. This Disco came from my brothers FIL who bought it from Land Rover as an ex management car at 2 years old.
  12. Same car, the blue strip is a ratchet strap holding it together. There is no way that has rotted like that whilst in undercover storage, definitely something weird going on
  13. My friend has just sent a picture from his phone. The MOT man has been a tester for 10 years and says this is the best one he has ever seen.
  14. Well, that didn't go to plan! On the Friday the house sale went through without a hitch (my brother and I decided to sell my late mothers house as rental had become too much stress with less income than money in the bank) proving that there are some good estate agents. Yourmove in Montrose advertised it, did viewings, handled offers and saw the sale through keeping us fully informed for their 1%. Monday was a day catching up with a few bits around the house, Tuesday was spent at the hospital in Aberdeen getting more tests. Wednesday morning, before heading to the shed, I checked the work email, and first thing Friday morning I was flying to Rotterdam to join a pipelay vessel the Lorelay, from where I am typing this. I have now had 12 days at home since the 28th March! Whilst I have been away and @GingerNuttzhas been keeping me sane with pictures of progress on my Rover P5B, my other friend has been quietly putting this B back together again after its recent weldfest and respray. I have not wanted to ask how he was getting on as the plan is for me to go and help, but being away is making that difficult. Today, out of the blue, I received this in an email That makes me very happy......
  15. This is a car I have owned for about 11 years and has done repeated runs from NE Scotland to Lemans. It has always been garaged (well stuck in the corner of my shed) during my ownership. I never suspected bodgery and the only reason it went to @GingerNuttz was I was going to sell it and the passenger front door had dropped a little and there was a small hole on the drivers inner wing and the drivers door stay had pulled out. The latter two were like it when I bought it, so decided for the little work it needed it might as well get done before sale. If I had known how bad it was, it would have been broken for parts. Still, someone is going to get a very well sorted P5B now.

Two out of three is a majority, it does not have to make sense. Get it bought!
  17. I had hoped to make this one but a small* setback in the field here means I will not be home for at least another week. *Small in this case meaning it will cost someone many, many millions!
  18. Saabnut wanders off to a quiet corner, sobbing gently! I think we can safely say that without @GingerNuttzand his magic sparkly stick, Delilah as this Rover is known (reg no WYY) would not have been long for this planet!
  19. Sorry Eddy, you are wrong! You can insure it but it is illegal for a UK resident to drive a foreign registered car. You will probably get away with it (like you did and indeed I have done) but that does not make it legal. Nice car btw
  20. The answer as always is a Saab. For your budget you could buy a nice late one and fuel it for a year or two.....
