Absolutely a design ahead of its time, and I wouldn't dispute that.
Worth noting that they were put in cars and sold to people who treated them like an A Series or Pinto. A friend's dad had a Rover dealership at the time of launch and despite giving customers the 'this is a modern engine that needs to be treated well' spiel along with care instructions, they got kettled regularly.

well 400 miles covered today
furthest I’ve ever driven this car, absolutely no issues at all which is pleasing!
All 7 spheres now replaced
both centre spheres were full of oil, no gas at all
corner spheres were between 0 and 10 PSI
accumulator was about dead too
suffice to say, 7 brand new spheres have completely transformed the car, it actually has suspension now, stays up for longer and just feels fantastic
it has float!

fixed the boost guage today, was quite simple really
intercooler pipe beside the batery had become slightly detached, just enough to cause issues
also should explain the oil leak i seem to be having at the minute, hopefully it should be all sorted now as i can't see anything leaking on the acgtual engine and some oil had come out of the degtached pipe
also happened to note it seemed to have just popped off, so loosened the clamp, wedged it in good and proper and tightened it up
all seems fine, it is vastly quicker and sounds a lot healthier now too! can actually hear the turbo doing it's job
so yes, pleased that one proved to be an easy fix
otherwise all is going well stil, and really enjoying the car!

Mind you. Pintos used to eat camshafts.... because the oil hadn't been changed for 30k and the spray bar was blocked..

The cars with K-series engines I've driven have all been nippy and responsive, and you can see why so many engine tuners love them... But it doesn't matter how good the engineering is if you're going to let brummies build them.

They seem to attract the same calibre of owners as mildly sporty fords tho

Minilites are shit, and anyone who actively chooses them should be shunned. Small dispensation allowed if they were fitted when you got the car, but if they're still on it six weeks later then you're gone.

My unpopular motoring opinion is that having good tyres appropriate for the local climate and conditions is a good idea.

I am 100% behind ULEZ zones.
For years I have said, albeit slightly tongue in cheek because I had no proof, that if diseasels were banned from our roads on a Monday morning, come the weekend you'd be able to taste, not just smell the difference in our cities. And what happened? Covid lockdown came along and lo and behold the skies cleared, the air was sweet, your asthma got better and unexpectedly I was proved correct.
Modern petrol engines don't cause city centre poluution, if anything they clean the air as they drive through the soup of particulates and other effluvia from the agricultural machinery that for the last 20 years has been masquerading as an acceptable power source for private cars and small commercials. The sooner we rid the roads of these filthy clunkers the better we'll all be.

Picked this up today to give my Sierra a rest. 2.0 diesel auto-Connoisseur SE.
155,000 miles-done very little over the last few years.
Bloke I bought it off had it for 18 years.
6 weeks MOT left.
Drives well- a few niggles to sort out-exhaust vibrating, headlining drooping , needs a good clean and takes a while to start when hot.
Still it only cost £400
