Great list, will do it later.
Was getting realy confused with ICE which does not drive wheels by design.
Took me at least 10 minutes to realise that ICE means something other than In Car Entertainmemt.
What an idiot

P38 still going well, Quite a relaxed drive- not fast but it makes you relax and waft. It came with a George Michael cd in the player. Didnt he crash one into some parked cars at some point?
Anyway I decided to slap a plate I had on it to add to the old money vibe….

Russian lady-
“Do you want to go to a Cuban Ballet? We need to be there in 30 min?”
Me
”Sounds good”
As it was all a bit spontaneous and choosing life I decided we should take the shad. I hadnt really driven it to get somewhere in a hurry before, so that was fun in itself! Think boat-like floaty wallowing and body roll with engine noise (im beginning to wonder if the silencers are past it as it can sound suprisingly snarly)
So it was quite a cultural evening. Did a quick pic beside a clock tower and a Bank (now a pub) that somehow survived the Blitz and Subsequent redevelopment, whilst everything in the immediate area didnt.

PS- as we know im a fickle fucker with cars, so to clarify the last post, the more powerful replacement is the starter motor, not a whole different car 😂

Ive recently adopted this orphan…
After a colourful life including three engines, and at least 1 new gearbox, its spent the last few years dragging its older, more glamourous relatives about for spares and restorations. (photos by St Austell Bay classics)
Anyway, its been replaced by a discovery 3- and there was a possibility the next step would be for it to be sold off in parts through their e bay account.
I was interested in it as its an unusual colour for a p38 and its a very low spec one.
No extra wood, more basic heating system, no sunroof, no leather etc
Its also has had the rear seats removed and the load bay extended. easy enough to reverse.
So its the poverty model of the least appealing range rover. But its had everything its needed mechanically as its been in front line use.
It wafts along nicely on air, whilst not particulary quick (its the 2.5 bmw 6 diesel) and although the interior needs a clear and a few (cheap) replacement bits, it still feels special to drive.
I think it looks quite funky in white.

Riding high on all 8 cylinders was great, but was swiftly followed by the starter jamming whilst backed on single yellows right outside a pub, on a hill….
Try as i might i couldnt un jam the starter from the flywheel. I spent while lying in the gutter hitting the starter with a hammer, with water running up my sleeves. Result? I ended up very wet, but the starter wouldn’t budge. I had a crack at moving the crank but its quite hidden. I was going to take the plugs out to help, but basically i needed to just get it shifted as i started to attract the attention of the parking bods. I even wrote a little sign (in vain)
Why all the fuss trying to start it? Well, in rolls wisdom the brakes are powered by an engine driven pump, theres no traditional master cylinder, there would be no brakes, and the handbrake is shit. And its on a hill. And its pointing downhill. A recipie for demolishing shops right there. It felt a bit like being one of those engineers who were trying to figure out how to raise the Mary Rose without trashing it more. it is quite boat-like when it works.
Anyway i parked a car behind it and tethered a tow rope to it, buttock clenchingly i slipped it into neutral, using the other cars brakes and the slack taken up by reversing the other car up the hill. Then we eased around a blind corner, Shad first and onto the flat at 6am this morning.
There we switched the cars so the powered car went first and at walking pace we rolled into a suitable unrestricted parking slot
Phew!

Shad news
I decided to risk depending on it for a work trip so wafted to my destination and back
And en route back i couldnt resist taking a pic beside a brutalist posh bastard house of the period…
When i got back I see that the RREC have been busy and sent me the records the hold for it, and they have landed through my letterbox.
Join me later when i browse through whilst with guinness.
