Looks like one of the better Sierra's left, not as nice as you hoped but I think you've done pretty canny

When I used to do agency work for NDS on Tyne Dock we used to refer to the Cabstars as the 'boneshakers'. There was one particularly terrible vessel (possibly the MV Autoroute) that had a long steep ramp which narrowed towards the top. The only way to get the chassis cab Cabstars up it was to drive to the end of the pontoon then reverse up at the ramp foot to the floor in reverse with the wheels spinning and the axle tramp shuffling the awful contraption all over the shop. Somehow both fun and harrowing at the same time...

Update time: yesterday and today I’ve been tinkering with the Pontiac.
My UNC/UNF tap and die set finally arrived, and by arrived I mean wasn’t left in my safe place two days in a row and then I had to wait until Saturday morning to collect as the office is only open 2 hours a day… Cheers Royal Mail. It meant I could at least clean up the shitey threads.

I also bought some long bolts as the 5/16 threads were deep in the block - this was a good shout as the taps were too short so I made this beauty* using the angry grinder.

You can’t see the threads so this pic is pointless, you’ll have to take my word for it that they’re all sorted:

Next up, it all went back together:

I did as the shop manual instructed and used a smear of RTV on the mating surfaces, and torqued everything up.
The coolant system was pretty grim:

So I treated it to a delicious dishwasher tablet.

Then I left it running on the driveway with the funnel attached. It’s getting tap water for now, as I’ll dump the coolant and put fresh stuff in after it’s been run for a bit.

It got up to temp, the thermostat opened, the bubbles slowed to a stop, no leaks were observed. It still doesn’t show as very warm on the dash, but with a new pump and thermostat I can only assume that either this is how it is normally or the sender is crap.
Either way, I chucked the coolant left in the funnel into the header tank and I’m calling it done for now, hopefully closing the lid on this for a while:

It’ll be interesting to see how it performs in service now that it actually has coolant in it.

Definitely imperial in my case, sadly.

The smaller one is 1/4-20 and the larger is 5/16-18. The larger ones all came out ok but I need to replace two of the smaller ones.
You’re right though, as whilst I was browsing the parts catalogues online I saw that some of the other GM engines in this platform use metric fasteners on the water pump. What a mess.

You might want to upgrade the cable tie holding on the strut return to a jubilee clip, when I've tried using cable ties it has always continued leaking

    XM update:
I’ve chucked the nut back on the linkage and it’s now good enough. Job done for MOT time and I’ll definitely revisit it later when I can be bothered to sort out the park position 100%
Cheers for the heads up - it was hard to tell how much pressure the original clamp applied. I will get a jubilee clip on it!

I think legislating against single rear lights and possibly single brake lights were applied retrospectively as with having only one headlamp able to dip and the other simply turning off when you dipped the lights

It might be helpful if you could optimise the 205 fuel filter arrangement so the filter is standing vertical as intended so that water in the fuel can sink to the bottom of the filter; with it lying on its side the water may get dragged in causing running issues and potential damage to injection system

Never one to rush into anything, I've finally got round to buying these!

I'd been pretty sure that I wanted to stick with the 7.50R16 size, partly for looks but mainly to avoid buying new wheels. But that limited my choices to mostly either mud terrains, or copies of orginally fitted tyres. I did like the look of some of those, but plenty of comments about poor wet traction - and for a vehicle which is actually used it seems best to take advantages of improvements in tyre technology. These seem to be the only all terrain tyre with the 3PSMF marking available in that size.
As usual though, there's a bit of mossion creep. The wheels are looking shabby, but I was quoted £375 to refurbish them, or in other words more than buying brand new wheels! So I'm going to attempt it myself, but doing a longer lasting job than the iLoad wheels...

The CX never had the Indenor engine, it's diesel was a Citroen design which was a pretty successful dieselisation of the existing petrol engine
Even today the performance and economy of the latest turbo intercooled iteration of the CX diesel (Turbo 2) is fairly impressive, just don't mention porous blocks...
