OK, As promised here's a breakdown of what I spent on collecting the Brown Bomber:
    Ryanair flight; £72
Original Train ticket: £36 (of which half was refunded)
    Chunnel crossing: £190
    B&B Booking Thurs night: £54
    Hotel Booking Weds Night: £46
    Taxi Stevenage - Stansted: £75
    Temp Insurance: £126
    Meal Weds night £20
    Meal Thurs Night £25
    Fuel fill-ups: £30+£22+£36+£38+£31+£36+£25 = £218
    Motorway Tolls: £60ish
    Driveway parking space: £30
    Habileads: £115
    Tyre fitting: £50
    I've also spent:
    Import broker fee: £120
    Import taxes: £55
Overseas transaction charges on the credit card: £20 approx
I make that about £1300 altogether which actually is slightly less than i thought, seeing as I've included the costs of the unplanned-for 'Habilead incident' and the import duty & broker fee. Theres probably a few other small costs which I have forgotten about like cans of pop and whatnot but I do think that covers most of it.
I'm pretty pleased really with how thats turned out. I mean the Simca is probably a £2k car as it is, once on UK number plates, so I wouldn't call it a profitable venture but it was an exciting little escapade which has defo cheered me up and reminded me who I actually am and what I like doing for my own enjoyment (and also that I can actually still get off of shite island if I want to now and then, even for a short while) and thats defo worth something.

Right were back in the game!!!! There's no way you could say these 155s constitute 'Carlos fandango wheels'. They look bob on!!!! Might even have raised the cruising speed by 1.03mph as well

the imaginary internet tokens you have received far outweigh any actual physical financial burden. When the credit card bill arrives you can just print all the likes out and post them back in an SAE and tell barclaycard to get themselves felt

    'KIN NORA

Only had a blowout didn't I, on the flippin motorway as well. Thought 'Jesus they need to sort this road surface out' then looked and saw there was nothing wrong with the road surface at all. Pulled over next to an orange telephone and found the RH rear tyre flat. Fuck!!! The last thing I want is to be fannying about beside the Autoroute. Now get this. This very morning I decided to check the spare. It was present, but almost flat. I pumped it up at a service station and it held air but was very badly cracked on the sidewall.
So, I got my hi-vis on and changed it. Wish id timed it as i was FAST AS FUCK. I reckon 6 mins between stopping and setting off again. I thought 'this spare isn't going to last 2 minutes once it gets some heat into it' but to my amazement it held on and I left the motorway 10kms later.
Driving along I was thinking 'Jesus I've got a right problem here. Now I've got not 1 but 2 shite tyres and no spare!!! And it's a holiday weekend and I've got to do 600 miles on Sunday!!!! And I can't wait till Monday and go home a day or two late cos my Volvo is clogging up some poor sods driveway in Peterborough!!!! HOLY SHIT OMG ITS A FUCKING DISASTER AAAAARRRGGHHH-
After about an hour of driving and stressing I went past this place.

Now obvs it's in the shiters DNA to crane his neck when passing a yard full of knackered old shit cars. In doing so I saw the word 'pneu' and also that there were 2 geezers stood in the doorway despite it being 6.10 on Friday evening. I thought 'there's bound to be a couple of 13" tyres in amongst that lot he can sell me' so did a quick U turn and went in.
He had a great workshop full of rammel including a 2-dr Jeep Cherokee in full yellow and black 'Renault Service' livery. I explained the problem, and said I was open to any ideas including secondhand tyres or even a new pair of a different size, as long as they were 13 inchers. After some ratching he turned up a new pair of 155/80 13  tyres from well known liquorice allsort recycler 'Habilead' 😀 I told him that would solve my problem and to name his price.
€130 the pair!!!! LOL he clearly detected the stress in my voice but I would have paid more tbh just to get this problem outof the way. Cash only so I had to zip to an ATM and come back, but at least I have some raw materials to keep the job rolling.

Hopefully I can find someone to fit these for me tomorrow. To my surprise my mum has a flippin compressor (has your mum got that? If not ask her why not) so if all else fails I'll have to find a big hammer and some metal bars and fit em myself (and get vibration white finger driving home on unbalanced 'Habileads'). Jesus!!!!

Apart from that, 'Doc Brown' has been going absolutely great guns. I left the Autoroute at Limoges then drove across country to Poitiers then Chatellerault. All on RN and D (dépertementale) roads. The last bit from Poitiers onwards was 'all time great drive' material. The weather cooled a bit and I was just zipping across open countryside in the evening sun at like 70-90kmh, which is the Simca 1100 'sweet spot'. Just check out these roads

Attempted a cheeky Vmax near here, got to an indicated 115 (about 72 mph) then remembered the lousy state of my tyres so slowed down again. Anyway it was glorious, just perfect driving conditions and I was able to really bond with the small brown car.

Here we are at Mutha B's gaff having a brew. 1100kms covered so far. Fantastic!!!

I just became an uncle for the second time.  Little Noah was born earlier this evening.  This is especially good news as we all thought my sister in law wouldn't be able to have more kids, after complications with my other nephew (now nearly 7).
My planned trip to Belgium and Germany next month is now going to incorporate a detour southwest to Grenoble to meet the new arrival.

Right our man is coming to meet me at the airport tomorrow using Simca 'power'. That's reducing my stress levels a lot, cos its a half-hour trip along the dual carriageway to his place, so I'll have a reasonable impression of how it goes before I'm sat inside it on my own looking down the barrel of a 2000km journey

It looks so cool, I can't wait to have a proper look at it.
I showed it to Mrs_Nutz who took one look at it and said "well that's never going to make it home is it, even I can see that. What are you gonna do???" 🤣🤣🤣
She'll be laughing on the other side of her face when I pick her up from some event or other in my clattering brownmobile and ask her to 'tell me if/when it's safe to overtake stuff cos I can't see shit'

    Hey all,
I've barely posted anything on here for a couple of years (or indeed anywhere, I have pretty much canned all internet posting since Twitter turned into a bin fire) but I've got something interesting coming up and we all love a good collection thread so lets see how we get on here.
I've not left the country for several years now although I used to love travelling. Nowadays, an unenthusiastic-about-travelling Mrs_Bo11ox, a no-longer-valid dog passport, all the br*x*t bollocks and just the hugely increased cost of everything (particularly channel crossings), make the bar much higher for getting off shite island. But a few weeks back, after scanning Leboncoin and Wallapop for the 1000th time, I said 'fuck it' and decided to treat myself to a new old heap with a decent collection mission. I warned Mrs_Nuts that I was doing it and she'd just have to manage without me for a few days, which to my surprise didnt cause too much friction.
Since buying this book a few months back I've had a mega urge for one of these noisy, flimsy shitters and I've watched quite a few coming and going on those two sites. Messaged a few sellers but never reached 'critical mass'

This one had been on Wallapop for ages, located in Spain, but on French number plates. I like the later ones that look a bit 'end of the line' with the smooth doorhandles and later dash that looks like an Avenger. Also love the 70's colours these come in, bright oranges and metallic greens and whatnot (although most of the metallic-coloured ones all seem to have lost their lacquer years ago). Anyway metallic chocolate brown sounds good to me. 1300€ was the asking price.

Anyway I struck up a convo with the seller and he seemed decent, honest and that, didn't mind waiting a bit for me to collect. Sent a few videos by whatsapp which revealed an honest looking old motor, one rear wing in grey primer, and noisy but not unhealthy-sounding engine (theyre always noisy these things arent they, known for tappet rattle). He said it had belonged to his wife's parents from new but now he needed to move it on cos he was not big into old cars and it was just a hassle he could do without, although he was still bobbing about in it here and there.

What about the logistics? Well the car is just outside Valencia. After some researching I found I could leave home (Derbyshire) at 8 am and catch a train to Stansted, then jump on a ryanair flight and be in Valencia by 6pm ish. Seller said he would come and pick me up from the airport so I could in theory be heading home the same day in my new brownmobile. So that all seemed alright as well. I'd been looking at a few old heaps in the S of France and seeing if I could get there on the train, its certainly doable but its a €250+ touch - this was a lot cheaper (albeit worse news for polar bears).

Still chit-chatting with the seller he sent me a few more pics where I saw one of the rear doors is a bit sad. But by now I had pretty much made up my mind to buy it anyway.

I had a ratch on Leboncoin and found someone selling a few Simca 1100 panels including 2 rear doors that was very close to my likely route North. Obvs these will need painting but I have recently bought myself a spray gun and am steadily learning how to use it (been spraying panels from my Mazda 929 with increasingly shiny results), so that's all manageable I think.

    https://www.leboncoin.fr/ad/equipement_auto/2450559206
So, all the moons were slowly coming into alignment. The seller knocked 100€ off to cover the cost of some doors, and he also offered to leave the insurance on it for my journey home (!) and so we did a virtual handshake. I sent him €200 deposit and started booking some travel and some time off work.

    So, heres the route.

2000km. I'm flying out on the Wednesday and need to be back at work the following Monday. Belpech is where I'm picking the doors up and Paulmy is the home of Mutha Bo11ox who I am gonna drop in on too. Got hotels booked for the Weds and Thursday nights and I'm hoping to do the Paulmy-Derbyshire leg in one go if I can, on the Sunday. Thats just under 600 miles in a day in a Simca 1100, I don't know if thats too ambitious or not but I'm gonna get moving at the crack of dawn and if the car has made it that far, I'm thinking it'll probably be OK. But will I? I'm nearly friggin 50 man. 600 miles in an 1100cc car with 4 gears and no headrests? Jesus. I doubt very much I'll be getting to work on time on the Monday.
Still, I honestly can't wait. I'll just have to down a big cup of the old 'getoverittaccino' from a roadside cafe or something if it all gets too much on the last leg. What I'm really looking forward to is the Thursday and Friday when I'm driving through Catalonia and the Pyrenees on my own, in the sunshine (hopefully), stopping here and there for a drink or a bite to eat or a leg-stretch or whatever. Seems completely blissful.

The seller later realised that French law says he has to sell the car with a recent MOT, pass or not. If he doesn't, he can't declare it sold at his end (actually I knew this myself but forgot all about it in the excitement) Being in Spain he can't take it for an MOT so now I have to do it!!!! I've got to drop in on an MOT station on the way home so thats another little job. (Seller is paying for it). I'm staying in a B&B near where the replacement doors are, so I'm takin it for its MOT on the friday morning.
Anyway thats the big mission. I am taking a check-in bag so I can bring some tools and I keep thinking of more and more things that I should take - 3/8 socket set, some screwdrivers & spanners, pliers, cutters, cable ties, tape, WD-40, spare points & condensor, mechanics gloves, head torch, jubilees, fuel pipe/hose, wire, photocopied maps, power bank, bluetooth speaker, sun hat, fuck knows what else. Got a week to think of more stuff as I'm setting off a week on Wednesday. Fingers crossed!!!

Today is a perfect autumn day, so I took this for a good drive. And I don't know if I'm imagining this, but the brakes feel much better now with new brake fluid.
    And the car ran perfectly.

    It is back!

I was lucky and got my favorite mechanic on this one and he did a great job from what I can see. He changed the wheel cylinders on both sides at the back and also had to replace the brake pipes on both sides. The brake shoes were in good condition so he did not change them. Fortunately, he also managed to loosen the stuck bleed nipples.
It pays to let the pros do some jobs, he spent under 3 hours I would probably have spent at least 3 days and had a miserable time while doing it. And this was not expensive either.
He cared so much that he not only put the old wheel cylinders in the car but also wrapped them in the wrapping paper the new ones came in and put them in the box the new ones came in.

So now this has also received new brake fluid and the only fluid in the car that has not been changed is the coolant and that is planned to be changed also.
They also got all defects from the MOT approved and removed the driving ban and I have only left to show it to the authorities for the seat situation and it is an MOT pass if it goes well. I have an appointment with them in 2 weeks.  So let's hope it goes well.
And it was fantastic to drive it again, this and everything positive that has happened today has done wonders for my mood and mind.
I also got the new brake connections covered in wax after I got it home, which should prevent them from rusting together.

So a good day this. And a big thank you to everyone here for help and encouragement I really appreciate it.
