Cat has dodgy ears so off to the vet we go. No problem there except it means I won't get to work until 11.
My choices are I can either make the time up today, or take half a days unpaid holiday. I offered to do an hour today and another tomorrow but that's no good apparently. My employer has become increasingly shitty as of late.
Son complains his expensive laptop won't charge. Check it over and the charger socket is really loose where he has been yanking the cable in and out despite my warnings he would damage it if he did that. It is four months old and cost a bloody fortune so there's either more expense for Currys to fix it (and probably break something else in the process) or send it back to Dell. I would rather stick my face in a blender than deal with Dell customer service.
Wife picking a holiday for next year. Despite in depth discussions about moving or extending our current house with the associated financial commitments involved, she has found a great holiday to the US and it only costs eight grand! For some reason my response along the lines of "Really? Eight grand? On top of everything else?" was thoroughly unreasonable.
Kids, cats, wives, employers, it's a good job I somehow maintain a sense of humour!
Oh, and it's my Dad's birthday today and I forgot and have no idea what to get him. Plus I have a blister on my foot which is a bit sore.
Right, rant over, as you were.......

A supposed Williams Clio mk2 in Castleford today
Then on the way to Lincoln a Jaguar being driven by a very nice looking lady
Then near the cathedral you could hear something going full tilt up the hill then this comes round the corner
Driver was Dutch. I know this as he knocked on a door only for his friend to answer and say "where's the car? You've got what?"

Minding my own business, trundling along back roads out behind Consett the other day.....
... up the road towards me comes one of these - black/white rally livery, rather than yellow - sounding 'FullOn'!
Of course I recognised it straight away... being a Proton twonk

This Granada is really messing with my head and it's not the black and silver plates.
Is it a Ghia or GL with the vinyl removed ?
What colour is it? ( anybody that says blue can buy a car on PCP)
Why no chrome trim rings?
Why early chrome centre caps?
Everything about it is wrong and that retrimmed interior is a little sudden, it would look better slammed on Pentas or Cossie's 16"s. Or my new favourite Granny wheel- banded original steels.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that but either modify or keep original not half arsed both.

Some nice cars there. The mk1 Granny is gorgeous, as is the Charger.

My learning time started when I was about 12. Started on a small dumper and te20 Fergie tractor. As I got older I was 'allowed' on the bigger toys- diggers/hymacs/6tonne dumpers/trannie vans ( dad had a building company). We also had a field we could rip around in old scrappers. Prepared me nicely for my first lesson where the instructor said WTF and had to unlearn 6 years of bad habits!

I've heard bad things about the Red driving school, mostly related to them promising much (£30k per year earnings!) and then maxing out your area with half a dozen instructors all clamouring for the same business. You weren't allowed to advertise yourself, had to direct people towards Red who would then dish out the clients.

I've just changed the pads on my Mazda.
The fronts were 5 - 10 mins each side. The calipers have those pins which were completely unseuzed and the pads slid out front and back. Putting a little crowbar in and pressing the pistons back and put new ones in! So simple! Id been putting this off all week!

tooSavvy reacted to Pillock in Australians soon relegated to walking - or not?
OK, so not knowing much about the Aussie classic car scene, I've tried to apply this to the UK.
This seems to be like all the UK car factories closing down (we're not there yet, but there's only a fraction left) and them starting to make panels and parts for Princesses, Mk1 Astras and stuff. Which seems like a good plan, at least for us - the owners of shite old cars that need panels and parts.
But imagine the tooling costs to set up a press to make Princess front wings. Now think how many princesses there are that are in need of front wings - you could probably make them in an hour, any longer you'd have more wings than cars left.
Now spend another day swapping the tooling to make a Mk1 Fiesta boot floor, and stamp out a couple of hundred. And repeat.
Then we'll all be moaning that a front wing costs £500

When you get to my age you figure that you have had a good innings and any further time alive is a bonus therefore seat belts are just an annoyance... in the words of every old person "I never had seatbelts when I was a kid and it didn't do me any harm "

1 & 2 - It is illegal to run a car that is not "roadworthy" regardless of whether or not it has an MOT. Also an MOT is no proof of a car being roadworthy other than at the time/date it was issued. If the car was found to be not road-worthy at the time of an accident as a result of the owner neglecting to have it maintained I'm sure an insurance company would weasel out of a payout.

Ford, in their infinite generosity and wisdom only give Diesel Fusion's under bonnet sound insulation. I wanted to get some for my petrol one.
A trip to the breakers in Sittingbourne (in my lunch break), in my work togs, revealed a dizzle Fusion balanced on top of a toyota starlet in the yard. Being in shirt and tie, I wondered if I might get some help. Of course not, this is a world where men are men and basically don't give a shit.
Anyway, I stand on the bonnet of the Starlet (buckling it of course) balancing on one leg in slippery shoes ripping the insulation panel out from the bonnet. It was only a fiver, and I got some new clips of t'internet.
Here it is now added.....and after all that it makes sod all difference (ok, maybe just a bit). I feel like a winner though...

Bought this sight unseen off Ebay for the princely sum of £871.......
The listing said
I think he missed out a comer after sills as in addition to sills it needs welding to the front floors, rear floors, front crossmember inner wheel arches front and back and a couple of other places, oh and the rear brakes don't work at all....
Not too fussed really as being a 1959 model its MOT and Tax free and the insurance quote was £73 for a year .....
Its coming home on Monday and once the brakes are fixed its off to get welded up, once a large amount of A35 shaped metal has been delivered.....luckily pretty much every panel and repair patch is not only readily available but is cheap to buy...
