As it happens I took the winter cover off the Subaru yesterday and run him up and down the farm track. Not sure if it was stale fuel or the often moody Hitachi carb but he wasn't at all happy.


It's still waiting for me to finish the repairs to the o/s rear inner wheel arch. I'd like to say this'll be the year but the new workshop is currently full of furniture and house hold tat.

Earlier tonight I had to go and collect four youngsters who'd been enjoying St Patrick's Day drinks nearby. It seemed only right to use the Carina E, a natural for such taxi duties? Made a bit of a discovery on the way:

I knew the HRW worked OK, with every element still doing its thing - not bad for an old estate car. As it was a bit damp I thought I'd give the other switch a try, which I believe is for a heated element or two in the front screen. I don't know whether it did anything in that regard, I think it's more intended for snow/frost, but I discovered that's how the heated door mirrors are operated. Everything else I've had with heated mirrors they just work off the HRW switch, and I'd just assumed they didn't work any more. Result!
Perhaps even better was that there was no vomiting, so I didn't have to apply penalty charges.....

Started a long overdue deep clean of the rear of our T25 Multivan.
Bought some bristle attachments for a drill and waded in. 5 buckets later and it's much better but probably needs another go.
 

Saab back in service today after time off over the winter. Got down to Edinburgh no problem but a few issues appearing, oil leak now joined by power steering leak and a general baggy feel means a few new bushes are in its future. Still not bad for 220k and 32 years old though.

I recently bought an old Casio watch off eBay, one that I've always hankered after but when it arrived it didn't have the crisp clean dial of the one on the listing but a rather cloudy one instead.

It's like over the years a dusting of the luminous coating has transferred to the back of the crystal. So today after watching a YouTube clip of an American chap sitting on his bed successfully pull a similar watch apart I had a bash at taking the mechanism out of mine and giving it a clean up.


A bit of Tesco's finest glass cleaner and a soft cloth and it's come up like new again.

That's a fine line up. Not a curve amongst all three.

From one of the Facebook pictures I could just make out the reg, and the MOT history looked bonzer, definitely worth a look. Also from the pics I worked out it was parked up at the Alfa specialist near the abandoned church in Denholme. Which is just about three miles from my tame  MOT man. Handy. The plan was to A-frame it the short distance and leave it there, but PW put paid to that idea. The seller (small time trader) was initially a bit miffed when I told him what happened but could tell I wasn't messing him about. He really got me out of a tight spot by making the one hour round trip to pick me up from near Skipton, we had a good chat in his car about all sorts. 
Up at Denholme, all of The Shrew's tyres were soft, as was the battery.  But it started and drove all ok, I think it is mechanically and bodily absolutely sound, just some bits of the interior is a bit tired cracked or knackered, and the seats could do with a good cleaning. I was just a little bit disappointed to be honest, but I was very grateful to the chap, and handed over his full £650 asking price. Only right in the circumstances, I feel. 

It looks completely poverty stricken outside in the drizzle now. I didn't even know these came with unpainted bumpers. But it should MOT without too much bother and at least see me through the season while I continue my search for a suitable 4WD MPV that doesn't have a five figure price tag.

Rightio, the nagging has paid off and I've got it booked.  Location is my mates field/woods/campsite near Bridgnorth in Shropshire.  Should be quite reasonably priced so long as we tidy up afterwards.
